MemberOvomorph01/3/2012I have been thinking about the SJs being our Gods/creators.
Like any proper Gods who make beings in their image we then become their sons and daughters and I believe they, SJs genuinely have us in their affections.
I mean if they wan't to do away with us they would have already.
And if they mean or meant us harm why create us?......no real sport at all......shooting fish in a barrel!
In the archaeological diggings the SJs leave their coordinates and Weyland builds the Prometheus and off we go...........they left evidence of who they are, where they are now, where we come from and our relationship to them and basically invited us to SJ land once we were mentally and technologically evolved to do so.
I was also thinking that the Prometheus crew could have absolutely nothing directly to do with the derelict and its crashing because the derelict has been there for ages, some say thousands or more years.
So the Prometheus crew enters the chamber with the head .....well this chamber is not exactly the New York or centre of town on this planet, very little activity, in fact it seems like a temple, a shine, a memorial, like our war memorials and maybe the head is a statue honoring an individual SJ that sacrificed himself for the survival of his race.
Maybe the goo merged with something, by intent or accident, to create xeno eggs and the xenos started killing the SJ race and the pilot of the derelict either who was already face hugged or not, decides to go on a suicide mission to rid his world and his race of all these xeno eggs and takes off to some desolate place like LV426.
We know xenos can kill SJs.......so maybe rather than save himself he saved his race.....and the head is a memorial to him.
And the space map might be showing where LV426 is and warning to anyone to stay well away..........this info is sent back to Weyland and that is how Weyland programmed Muther on the Nostromo with its "crew expendable" directive and how Ash knew a fair bit about the xeno.
This might tie in with transmission at the beginning of the trailer "you don't understand, we were wrong, so wrong, sorry".
Anyway all this probably not even close but I thought I would share a few random thoughts.

MemberOvomorph01/3/2012Interesting....
Comments that the God or SJ looks too humanoid seem unfair. As the Gods have created life forms across the galaxy they have created us similar in their own image.
Could it be that the Gods are near extinction and are seeding planets to revive their kind or similar to appearance.
Book of Genesis:
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Only a thought and not really meant to be whacked out in theory.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012I think the order of the scenes in the trailer are out of sequence. Could it be that Janek and Vickers are the only two onboard Magellan when the Derelik approaches the temple. I get the impression Janek is about to ram their vesel into something. He's probably told Vickers to get the hell off the ship before impact. That's one reason she might be getting her ass in that escape pod. Oddly enough is it possible that the Pilot, ( if we don't want to call them SJ's any more) and his species have died out in the millions of years since leaving the message for their creations on Earth? As for the enlarged humanoid in the charting room, are we sure this is a member of the same species? If they were planetary engineers surely we weren't the only product of their handiwork. Perhaps we aren't the only kids in the play ground so to speak? Just attempting to justify the Captain ejecting from the ship alone, and figure out who or what the big blue bald guy is. I don't have an issue with his appearance being very much like our own, after all once you find a design you like you tweak it, worked fine for us all this time.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012Scott's interview with SpeakEasy suggests the film leans more towards the Titans than other perceptions of God.
Creation would be implied in both cases but according to Greek mythology, Prometheus loved (and was largely responsible for) mankind. Not so much humanity, nor women (Zeus' idea of a curse). I wonder if that will tie in with the film somehow? After all, Alien was all about male pregnancy...
Though I do think Klaatu's excerpt from the book of Genesis can be interpreted in the same way that Prometheus allowed man to stand upright ("as the Gods did"). But doesn't that also suggest the name "Prometheus" has more to do with the giant head in the film like it's portrayed on the teaser poster? I know we're all just speculating and having fun but I see the term "Prometheus crew" being peddled around everywhere now and accepted as fact as though the film was named after a human vessel or vice versa.
Did I miss an interview somewhere?
@Ghost Solitare:
Vickers' motives are the most interesting! My best guess is the alien ship is trying to get off the planet because it collides in the sky rather than in space (where they could of actually stopped it, if it had intentions to land). But why is Vickers the only one scrambling to get to the escape pod? Why would she want to stop the other ship? To prevent an evil reaching Earth? Or maybe to stop something valuable from ever leaving the company's grasps...
