Whatever happened to the original ship?

I've never understood what happened to the original derelict ship? In Aliens the Jordan family is sent out by Burke to investigate the beacon and we all know where that got them, but why didn't Weyland salvage the actual ship? It's hard for me to believe that Weyland, after receiving the distress signal from the colonists, would have only send one team to deal with the xenomorph threat only and not another team to investigate the actual ship to find out all of it's secrets. Is there any background on whatever happened to it?

team ? was an entire colonial marines ship full of men ...i dont think was a little expedition for a little colony that didnt send anymore messages ...and probably Burke was the only one who did belive Ripley about the derelict ( its clear in Aliens that he did all alone )

I have thought that too, especially since Prometheus and all the new speculation about what the company knew/didnt know. Since they lost contact with Nostromo why didnt they send another expedition to find out about the transmission, especially since we know the company send Prometheus 30yrs earlier. If they thought in any way that this transmission was tied to the earlier mission they wouldnt have just stopped checking it out. what you all think about this??

i personally avoid the "great cospiracy" theories in Alien ....so my take is 1) the company had a secret internal order in case of alien encounters ( retrive them at all costs ) 2) they did got from maybe another ship the possibility of an alien trasmission from lv 426 ... they did changed the Nostromo course and put ash in the crew . 3) they gave the ship as lost ...since it was an enormous loss they didnt try other expeditions and the memory of the incident was forgotten ( that is easily understandable : the people who sent the nostromo are also the responsable of the loss of the ship so was better for them to destroy all the evidences ) 4) they find ripley back ... but noone belive ...the secret files lost from years ... burke belive ...looking for some profits ... 5) burke send people to investigate .... the colony is lost ...the Weyland ask the help of the military ( and that mean that the chiefs of the weyland didnt know about the derelict or the aliens ) ...the fact that they ask the help of the military destroy a great cospiracy theory . of course that is my personal idea !

Well. As to what happened to the ship. I think it got nuked when they blew up the facility at the end of Aliens. I also thought the whole idea of sending the marines and Burke, was to bring back a xenomorph, so that they could weaponise it.

I agree with Member oias.heeda. Pesumably...the derelict was destroyed in the nuclear blast at the climax of 'Aliens'. Also... It's hard to know if the company could know the exact location of the planetoid. I get the sense that they know the general viscinity, but not the exact location in space. That would explain sending the Nostromo, based on the pickup of the signal, and Hadley's Hope, the colony, not knowing about a derelict craft so close to it or the company not knowing it was there. Happy coincidence I guess.

maybe thats how hadley's hope got infected in the first place. ok newt's father was just one man. if they sent in a team after on company orders, thats alot of people infected

nothing happened. the events of aliens never took place. it was the inept fantasy of an inferior director.

ok dude. dont hack on aliens. i give as much props to jim cameron as i do to riley scott. they were 2 totaly different films and if your gonna hack on a film, hack on 3 and res. they never happened. at least jim didnt try to remake alien, and to conclude, the directors cut makes more sense, so give that version a try before calling it inferior

I agree. Aliens was a good attempt to Make a sequel into another genre. Alien 3 tried to be alien but failed By breaking alien canon as the queen is not supposed to lay eggs without her belly and face huggers only Come out from their eggs if sensing movement of a possible host Nearby. How could the face huggers crawl so long and find the cryo chambers? Totally nonsense. alien resurrection.....was reason enough to call it a backstab to the franchise.

@ Frantz - your forgetting one thing, by 2179 (Aliens) Weyland-Yutani had influence and contracts throughout all of the humans boards, commities and establishments including the USCMC (United States Colonial Marine Corps). They didn't ask the military for help, they ordered them to assist.

Lv-426 atmosphere contained Methanol. A light volatile flammable gas. So if you ignite a nuke, and the atmosphere contains the above could be bad news. But to start a fire you need oxygen.
