The Forest Through The Trees

For a good while now, as I've consumed the hours and hours worth of the breadcrumbs, scraps and tidbits of almost nothing that Ridley and his actors have dropped at our feet...I've felt, I've sensed that there was something we all were missing, that was right there in front of us...some 'thing' there, hiding in between the lines...the proverbial forest through the trees we just cannot see...and I just can't put my finger on. This something is hiding in the shadows of Ridley’s head games, which I love and hate him for, and it’s a monster…. As we all know, Ridley's done with the xenomorph. It's tired, overused, been run into the ground and long since lost any hint of freshness. He’s said as much…. Which is why the following bits of information have lodged themselves, stuck in my mind and I can’t get them out… When the official version of the teaser trailer hit, I poured over it endlessly, as I’m sure all of you did, and I noticed something or rather its absence…Two shots, one second apart that could originally be seen in the leaked version of the trailer that appeared over Thanksgiving weekend. They are both particularly interesting in spite of their poor quality. The first, at :37 sec, shows a black skeletal hand, perhaps it’s not a hand, but something moving over the edge of a cryo-unit. What it is or isn’t, I don't know, but am very curious about. It’s alive, it’s moving and it sure as hell does not look human. The second, at :39 sec, is of a bulge moving in someone's stomach. It, again, looks very strange and appears for less than a second, so it’s rather difficult to hazard a guess at what it might be. These shots flank, before and after, a shot of the SpaceJockey chair rising out of the floor, as appears in the official trailer. I just think there’s something new there we’ve missed. Also, there’s the implication of someone impregnated with something, i.e. the shot from one of the 30 second teasers that shows a diagnostic image of someone entertaining an unwanted guest in their abdomen. With all of this, I just feel like Ridley has this ace up his sleeve, and it’s one hell on an ace, that he’s left out and in among the trees we keep staring at, (the randomly released screen shots that only occasionally show us anything; the vague, inviting interviews that only serve to rehash what we already know). It’s there...this monster we can’t picture quite yet and we’re all just too enamored with the scraps in those trees to see the forest behind them and what lurks within it….
