MemberOvomorph01/18/2012Someone on here is named "Altered States", which to me is one of the most underrated sci fis ever... here is my top 10 list of sci fis from the 80's
10) Videodrome - Gotta love Cronenberg, one of the few directors that could do an Alien film.
9) Brazil - fun crazy world.
8) RoboCop - One of the top typecastings ever done!
7) The Terminator - Cameron's best work.
6) Outland - Detective/Mystery in which Sci Fi is the backdrop.
5) Heavy Metal - Could see this remade with todays fx.
4) The Empire Strikes Back - The best one of all of them.
3) Aliens - Xeno baby!
2) The Thing - How many times can you watch this one? Top notch monster, suspense, fear, and some of the wittiest dialog...
Fuchs: "I need to talk to you. It's important. Meet me outside in five minutes. "
MacReady: "It's 40 below zero outside. "
1) Dune - Herbert's imagination materialized. Riding worms, Bene Gesserit, Space Guild, the Weirding Way. And Sting?
1) Blade Runner - This should be a straight number 1, but it's a tie. This movie is about everything!
I cheated, there are 2 number 1s. Here are a few more that did not make it..
Altered States
Alien Nation
Spaceballs

Light years of Gandahar Isaac Asimov 1988 (Remake would be nice)
Spacehunter> Adventures in the Forbidden Zone 1983
The Swamp Thing 1982
Starchaser> Legend of Orin 1985
Battle Beyond the Stars 1980 (love to see a remake of this one)
Galaxy of Terror 1981 (Which I was tripping it was Prometheus done 80's style)
Oh and of course Akira 1988, Neo Tokyo similar to Bladerunner 2019

Ripley Clone 8

MemberOvomorph01/18/2012plus if we were in the 80's, bill paxton would be in this flick. the characters he plays in sci fi have the worst luck lol

MemberOvomorph01/18/2012Ruhaniya that's an odd list. Galaxy of Terror .. Ha Ha Ha.. that movie freaked me out. I've always wanted to see Akira. Inception is a partial rip off of Dreamscape.. good one, i could watch that again. I didn't think that Aliens thing would go over too well... lol

MemberOvomorph01/19/2012Come on guys no mention of Predator?? That is a fantastic movie!
I'm not a huge Treky but there were a couple decent flicks. They are a totally different genre than most mentioned films.
The Black Hole was pretty good, and the evil red robot gave me some bad dreams. I guess that might have been late 70's
2010 (why aren't we orbiting Jupitor yet?)
The Abyss - I don't get Cameron haters.
Cocoon!!
Iceman

MemberOvomorph01/19/2012Loved "the Abyss"....think Cameron is amazing!
Aliens
Poltergeist and Polergeist 2
Raiders of the lost Ark
The Thing
An American Werewolf in London
Fright Night
Note some of these are horrors....and some might have come out in the seventies?

MemberOvomorph01/19/2012I love the The Thing, that is my next favorite sci fi horror next to Alien (Aliens). The soundtrack is amazing. Just watched the prequal to The Thing and it was pretty good. Did not expect it to hold up the eighties original. Also noone has mentioned Event Horizon. I thought that was a pretty cool movie.

I agree with post above - The Thing is one of my favorite sci-fi/horror flicks of all time. It's Carpenter's masterpiece (imo)!....

MemberOvomorph01/19/2012I can't single out a favorite, but I like all the usuals;
growing up in that era, thats' my "cultural template",burned in forever.
The further you get away from all that, the more 'alien' it is to me.

MemberOvomorph01/19/2012I love and have the X Rated Criterian version of ROBOCOP!
It Rocks! & Videodrome has always been a difficult move for me to watch.
