MemberOvomorph01/23/2012Hey guys, begins by congratulating them for forming this pleasant community. I must say, I love this page and I still long. It continuare saying that my fanaticism for the work of Sir Ridley Scott and Hans Ruedi Giger is only equaled by the work of the great Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

It is obvious that there are certain parallels or general concepts present in prometheus and at the mountains of madness:
1) in both stories we see a group of explorers and scientists immersed in a journey of discoveries and revelations that change the scientific, religious and philosophical vision of being human and its role in the universe. Here is where the terrifying truth is revealed.

2) in both stories our dear players you will find answers to all the paradigms and transcendental mysteries in ancient structures designed by an alien entity.

3) in both stories will see alien gods which gave rise to life on Earth and also created other creatures. In one are engineers and on the other are the elder things. (also known as the old ones)

4) in both stories will see the monster created through genetic engineering. in one we will see the missing link of the xenomorph, possibly intended as a biological weapon; and on the other we have the shoggoths. The shoggoths are not biological weapons, but play the same role in "Monster" devours men. in fact the race of the elder things was consumed mostly by the monstrosities that created. Also most likely that the Necronomicon of Giger was influenced by the HP lovecraft.

and finally a question that has already been discussed repeatedly on this page:
is there something more dangerous and terrifying than humans, xenomorphs or engineers?

MemberOvomorphMar-11-2012 11:45 PMThank you @Nephilim_LV426, and certainly there is always a bigger fish. Maybe Prometheus is a universe larger than the originally saw in Alien. On the other hand it is quite possible that the new monster of Scott's new project is much bigger and scarier than the Xenomorphs. Finally we have gods who can be a Machiavellian strategists with dark purpose for humanity.

MemberOvomorphMar-13-2012 6:46 PMShambala - I hope we will learn just how beastly-nasty and controlling the bio-weapon is. As you said 'scarier than the Xenomorphs'. When we see how other life-forms toy with nature for their own inner purpose, to them it will be like a farmer throwing a pesticide on a crop...that's what we'll have trouble coping with morally ....IMHO
Cheers!

MemberOvomorphMay-23-2012 5:23 AMor maybe it has something to do with the statue of the head in the ampule room it does seem pretty godlike maybe the space jockeys worship a god and have there own religion but it turns out that the god is actually a giant alien and the jockey tomb/temple mite be the place where they worshipped him

MemberOvomorphSep-08-2012 2:09 PMExcellent find, and I would add the "Mountains of Madness" connection should be also noted on the 1979 "ALIEN" when they actually find ALIEN FOSSILS as in the novel... to end finding the artificial monstruosity, or "shoggoth", wich is the xenomorph.
Such a pity DELTORO found the Prometheus movie kicking in the nuts his idea for the Lovecraft adaptation... Guess the Prometheus is the closest thing to a "At the mountains..." movie we will ever get... (Joined to Carpenters "The Thing", that is).

MemberOvomorphSep-09-2012 9:13 AMExactly what i've been thinking, the jokey in alien reminds me a lot of Cthulhu, in the sense that it lays dead in a massive dark chamber, kind of how Cthulhu lays in the deep dark sea. For me that mysteriousness and eeriness of the jockey is what made it so "ALIEN" .And that distress signal we hear from ALIEN (directors cut 2003) perfectly fits the jockeys appearance. although i liked the engineers Prometheus removed that feeling as soon as i saw that the jockeys nothing more but tall white bald muscular men.

MemberDeaconAug-09-2015 4:32 PMYes there are many links to a degree with the Moutains of Madness and HP lovecraft.
The Shoggoths could be connected with the Xeno but they could just as easy be the Engineers but then we have the Ubbo-Sathla which could also be the Xeno or Engineers too by Xeno i mean Xeno DNA Ancestor. But the Ubbo-Sathla fits more with the Black Goo!
