Hey guys, begins by congratulating them for forming this pleasant community. I must say, I love this page and I still long. It continuare saying that my fanaticism for the work of Sir Ridley Scott and Hans Ruedi Giger is only equaled by the work of the great Howard Phillips Lovecraft. It is obvious that there are certain parallels or general concepts present in prometheus and at the mountains of madness: 1) in both stories we see a group of explorers and scientists immersed in a journey of discoveries and revelations that change the scientific, religious and philosophical vision of being human and its role in the universe. Here is where the terrifying truth is revealed. 2) in both stories our dear players you will find answers to all the paradigms and transcendental mysteries in ancient structures designed by an alien entity. 3) in both stories will see alien gods which gave rise to life on Earth and also created other creatures. In one are engineers and on the other are the elder things. (also known as the old ones) 4) in both stories will see the monster created through genetic engineering. in one we will see the missing link of the xenomorph, possibly intended as a biological weapon; and on the other we have the shoggoths. The shoggoths are not biological weapons, but play the same role in "Monster" devours men. in fact the race of the elder things was consumed mostly by the monstrosities that created. Also most likely that the Necronomicon of Giger was influenced by the HP lovecraft. and finally a question that has already been discussed repeatedly on this page: is there something more dangerous and terrifying than humans, xenomorphs or engineers? Shambhala, woah! I never thought about the similarities between the Space Jockey and the Hindu god Ganesha. I wonder if it gets a mention in the movie? Also, although this may not be appreciated, I couldn't help but notice that Cthulhu must have been an inspiration for Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean:

@Starbeast Absolutely But in the PIRATES movies, Davy Jones turn out to be a Demi God who has exceeded & abused the limits of his power....

It is cybernetic space jockey inspired with a lemon twist of Lovecraftian Cthulhu. I am intending on painting it VIA computer but I have absolutely no experience with that. So it's going slow...Though I can paint. This inspiration was enlightened upon my creative urges when I learned about SIR Ridley Scott making the Alien prequel which became Prometheus. I hope to finish painting it by the end of the count down to the showing of this movie and put it up. I can't wait to see our Space Jockey get wired into the telescopic control apparatus cryogenic capsule thingy. So exciting!

Interesting post.... Like it... Shame at the mountains of madness did not get the green light but apparently Guillermo del torro still has hopes for it at a later time as he has done so much work on it already.... So keeping fingers crossed on that one emerging a bit later on. Perhaps they felt it was too much to have 2 big budget films of this nature release the same year and have decided to spread them apart for now revisit the script again later the whole design conceptual phase was completed though I believe for ATMM

In answer to your question Shambhala, I've been saying that there is something else worse than the Engineers and the Alien pretty much the whole time. Something that we have no idea about because Sir Ridley is keeping it so close to the chest. ;-)

Great post Shambala! I agree totally with Cypher - As Qui-Gon Jinn said (with full pun intended) "there's always a bigger fish"...

Thanks @Ronster and yes, indeed was a total disappointment and a shame what happened to ATMM, but still I have hopes that in the future given the green light to this epic project. But Prometheus will be a great movie that is sure to set the tone for future filmmakers, a true masterpiece, an icon of science fiction and horror like Alien. regards

@Cypher Yes, Ridley has many hidden surprises up his sleeve. But my point is speculative to draw parallels between Prometheus and ATMM I thought that the Space jockeys are not the major gods of the plot. I was thinking that maybe the SJ are creations like humans and Xenomorphs. In the Elder Things ATMM gods are creators of life on Earth, but at the same time we have to Cthulhu, a terrifying and monstrous God who led a war against the Elder Things. Then it occurred to me that perhaps there may be an entity Prometheus worse or more powerful than the Space Jockeys, ie the true Engineers, those who are moving the pieces on the chess board for their dark purposes. But I'm just speculating, of course. Regards

Thank you @Nephilim_LV426, and certainly there is always a bigger fish. Maybe Prometheus is a universe larger than the originally saw in Alien. On the other hand it is quite possible that the new monster of Scott's new project is much bigger and scarier than the Xenomorphs. Finally we have gods who can be a Machiavellian strategists with dark purpose for humanity. Regards Shambhala

Shambala - I hope we will learn just how beastly-nasty and controlling the bio-weapon is. As you said 'scarier than the Xenomorphs'. When we see how other life-forms toy with nature for their own inner purpose, to them it will be like a farmer throwing a pesticide on a crop...that's what we'll have trouble coping with morally ....IMHO Cheers!

or maybe it has something to do with the statue of the head in the ampule room it does seem pretty godlike maybe the space jockeys worship a god and have there own religion but it turns out that the god is actually a giant alien and the jockey tomb/temple mite be the place where they worshipped him

Excellent find, and I would add the "Mountains of Madness" connection should be also noted on the 1979 "ALIEN" when they actually find ALIEN FOSSILS as in the novel... to end finding the artificial monstruosity, or "shoggoth", wich is the xenomorph. Such a pity DELTORO found the Prometheus movie kicking in the nuts his idea for the Lovecraft adaptation... Guess the Prometheus is the closest thing to a "At the mountains..." movie we will ever get... (Joined to Carpenters "The Thing", that is).

Exactly what i've been thinking, the jokey in alien reminds me a lot of Cthulhu, in the sense that it lays dead in a massive dark chamber, kind of how Cthulhu lays in the deep dark sea. For me that mysteriousness and eeriness of the jockey is what made it so "ALIEN" .And that distress signal we hear from ALIEN (directors cut 2003) perfectly fits the jockeys appearance. although i liked the engineers Prometheus removed that feeling as soon as i saw that the jockeys nothing more but tall white bald muscular men.

Yes there are many links to a degree with the Moutains of Madness and HP lovecraft.

The Shoggoths could be connected with the Xeno but they could just as easy be the Engineers but then we have the Ubbo-Sathla which could also be the Xeno or Engineers too by Xeno i mean Xeno DNA Ancestor. But the Ubbo-Sathla fits more with the Black Goo!
