MemberOvomorph01/25/2012This thought occurred to me when I was sleeping last night. In Alien, when Dallas asks Lambert how long till they are back home, Lambert replies, 10 months. So, I am thinking that Prometheus will take place on another plant and along the way, the system Zeta R...becomes the ending point for Prometheus, starting point for Alien. So, I am guessing here Zeta will not be the Prometheus's destination.
Of course....this is all theory.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012who said the travel take a different time ?
i hope you are not referring to Dickie fake intervew !! :((((((((((((((((((((((((((

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012No...No..of course not...I would think that this trip is the longest of it's kind, for the Prometheus and the crew. Could this be the first deep space launch for Humans
? I would think so and 10 months could with use of your body can be pretty crushing. And well, at 10 months, it is right on the door step or Earth...

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012Heck, maybe 30+ years later they traveled 5 times faster....
I can't remember what's real and what's speculation. Have any of the real plot synopsis' verified a five year trip? 10 months is still a heck of a long time to spend at 0g, so training to get back used to normal gravity would still be a requirement...

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012Or course, there are 3 planets present...the one from Alien and two more that are unknown...alot of back story there.

MemberXenomorph01/25/2012Hey Guys,
I think the Jockey Ships from each of the movies are different, thus not the same ship. So I'd be willing to wager that they are 2 completeley different planets, and could very well possibly be in opposite directions from where earth is. Does anyone think that the travel time could include multiple trips from A] Earth to B] Unknown Planet to C] Jockey Planet, since you mentioned 3 planets there.
Regarding the travel time, the Nostromo was essentially a barge, lots of tow power but no speed. The Prometheus I am sure would have atleast top of the line speed that would make it a heck of a lot faster or at a bare minimum comparable in speed to that of an old tug.

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012If we have mastered FTL then I'll be damned if we haven't also nailed artificial gravity. In fact, many of the ship scenes indicate artificial gravity, assuming the ship ain't landed on solid ground. IMO, the 10 month journey time in Alien and alleged 5 years journey time in Prometheus doesn't necessarily indicated different destinations. Afterall, in the space of another 30 years, FTL could have been improved such that journey times have been reduced to 1/6th of what they were.

MemberXenomorph01/25/2012SB,
I can't agree, for lack of a better comparison items, you need to compare a Tugboat of today against a Coast Guard Cutter from 30 years ago. The Cutter would just walk past the Tub everyday of the week. Then add on that I am sure the Nostromo was no where near being new. I don't have the data but I am sure it was already rather old in Alien.

Rick

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012Speed or not, gravity or not, there are many reasons to have the crew in stasis for a trip even 6 months long. Not that this has anything to do with the original post...
Aside from the stockpiles of food and water to sustain them, the additional oxygen required to support active people, and the amount of waste produced- there's the most dangerous part: Most people would literally go insane if stuck in a box for 10 months. Even if you're locked in a building on earth, a damn big one with plenty to do, it would be easy for anyone to loose a grasp on reality. We're just not meant to be caged like that. Even prisoners get to go outside and see the sun...
Time passes so fast when you sleep. Sanity is preserved...

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012the nostromo was built in 2104 so its 19 years older than the prometheus and alien takes place in 2122 18 years later

Rick
MemberXenomorph01/26/2012Ok so we have the following:
Alien: 2122
Nostromo Built: 2104
Prometheus: 2092
So 12 years after Prometheus the Nostromo was built. With barely more than a decade between the two I cant' buy the Nostromo being that much faster than the Prometheus so it falls back on different destinations or even multiple destinations. This would lend a bit of credence to the crew awakening to skeletal aliens on board the ship.

The italic stuff is obviously made up but is what I'm suggesting

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012maybe the nostromo outside was a tug but engine speaking excellent so to be fast and efficient to cut down expenses and rise profits
