MemberOvomorph01/27/2012Why do you think Gay people can't be frightening? Seems a bit prejudiced to me!

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012Hope it's an 18... In fact can I make a personal appeal to Sir Ridley to ensure that it does... I understand the movie companies wanting to maximise sales, at the end of the day it's business right... But please for me and everyone like me... Alien and the Universe that encompasses it is Cinema pure gold and to make Prometheus scary it's got to be an 18. Hopefully Prometheus will be a classic just like Alien, don't trip it up with the dis service of a lower age rating to boost sales. Keep it what it's meant to be and the fans will love it and go back for more... I'll pledge a few trips back to the cinema to watch it!
In Alien the classic chestburster scene I believe greatly added to the 18 rating, because of this scene we the viewers and fans were given a punch in the face and made us scared of the facehuggers and Xenos, and we didn't forget that feeling Alien created. CUT to the AVP and AVP Requiem...the chestburster scenes were conducted completely differently, why? To make sure the movies didn't get an 18 rating. Did the scenes in these two movies conjure up the same lasting feelings that Alien did? Not even close...please make it 18.

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012i feel 15 would be passable for a nasty scfi hoping for an r/18 but i think its wishful thinking on my part now but im also hoping there will be a blu ray 18 version and i think thats the best we can hope for i will be delighted to be proven wrong.

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012Please people not again such rating
worries.
All alien movies were rated in most
countries around the world with
age of 15 or 16. The us strangely
Gave an r rating though and in
the UK they first rated 18 then
re-rated to 15.
So calm down!

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012@CBT1979 this is true, when they released the directors cut of Alien in 2003 it was a 15 rating in 1979 when it was first releasd it was an X (thats an 18 now) I had to sneak in to see it as I was only 12 at the time boy did that film scare the hell out of me. when I went to see it in 2003 I did notice some small cuts here and there but the chestburster scene was not touched Parkers death was differant (as I remember it)

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012@hukerlover
Exactly. The directors cut showed the blood
dripping down on parker and ripley was
Added, but the death of parker was
same where tge alien bites his head
With his inner jaw.
I think nowadays audience can take
Much more than 20 years ago.
when i watch a chestburster scene
it never scares me anymore, because
It is routine now :)

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012I wouldn't be happy about Prometheus being a 12. To be honest i can't see it happening. Theres no way Ridley Scott would make a film that requires you to think about the horror of space, the possibilities of our origin and even use H.R Gigers work, for a child to watch.
Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012agreed engineer but fox have a lot of invested interest in pulling in the punters even if they are whipper snappers.

I'd like to believe that and hope its true. But its certainly possible that the studio told Ridley: "Make the theatrical cut PG-13 or you don't get your budget."
After careful consideration, Ridley might say "Well, I don't want to compromise my idea by making it PG-13, but that seems to be the only way I'll be able to get this done...Hold on..maybe I can make this work..."
Of course that's just wild speculation, but if that's what happened, we just have to trust in Ridley until we see the movie.

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012i dont mind a pg 13 but im concerned at my cinema experience if it is... all those kids chattering through the film and slurping kia ora and munching frankie hotdogs urghhh the thought terrifies me more than the film.

Engineer Tech Brett
MemberOvomorph01/27/2012It is a danger that fox would ruin a good film for the sake of a few pounds/dollars but i think Ridley has enough sense to stand his ground on the matter. Isn't Ridley producing this film aswell as directing it, surely he has a bigger say in the matter anyway?
That being said, as far as i am concerned Fox can go fuck themselves if they think they can ruin this.
Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012a few pounds!... no a film like that can have a significant revenue turnaround if you let the kids in to see it but at the expense of a compromised film.

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012I understand what you are saying but i think you are giving Kids to much credit here. This isn't Transformers, this is a film that has a big following because of Alien and the vast majority of that following are 18 and up. I would think Ridley knows his target audience and wouldn't sell out.
Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

Jeystone
MemberOvomorph01/27/2012Ridley can go fuck himself if he even thinks he can pass of a PG...Im sorry but that is a deal breaker...might as well not bother making the fucking film..do it right or dont do it at all
Hukerlover
MemberOvomorph01/27/2012hey Jeystone ive a feeling Riddley would have told fox the same thing "if you want me to do it then its done my way

draekus
MemberOvomorph01/27/2012@Jeystone
I know where you're coming from. Trust me I want this movie to be "R". Not for gore or any specific reason other than I just want Ridley to face the least possible amount of restriction when making his movie. But if Ridley says he can make it PG-13 (not PG), then I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see the film.

The High Priest
MemberOvomorph01/27/2012I agree with Jeystone - I love RS and his seminal Alien film, but if this becomes some kind of corporate marketing money making spin rather than a piece of adult art then Fuck off. The kids have their bubblegum wrapped disposable bullshit movies on tap - For fucks sake give the adults something to chew on for once. And no, when I have previously posted a passionate plee such as this, I think it was "walterhiller" who was like "fuck you, this is Ridleys 2001 go back to your Freddie Kruger films" - Fuck that response, I'm not after a freddie Kruger experience prick! I want a really dark, but provocative experience that isnt just blood and gore but dips into the darkest areas of the human phych - Something that really unnerves us. Not some kiddy/Walt Disney "Diet Horror" shit.

Mentos
MemberOvomorph01/28/2012I listen to Mark Kermode here. For anyone who doesn't know, he's a UK film critic; and one of the most respected at that. He is very in tune with BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) ratings, and I've heard him talk a lot about classification before. Mark essentially cites that it is hard for films to achieve an 18 rating (R-rating) unless they contain a lot of sex and/or sexual violence.
So Prometheus might get a lower rating if it doesn't contain a great deal of sex/sex related violence, but there is always the chance we'll still get to see crew members get torn limb from limb.

Xenophobe
MemberOvomorph01/28/2012But if a new full length trailer is apparently added to Phantom Menace 3D in 3weeks, how could Prometheus possibly be above a 12 rating. "Oh yeah lets put a trailer for an 18 movie before a U rated one". . . If that was the case, Prometheus would look crap to millions of people who wouldn't even see any horror related footage in the trailer!

Alien3wastheBest...
MemberOvomorphMar-28-2012 5:44 PMShut up of you saying it should be 18. I'm 16 and am a massive fan of the alien films and shouldn't be unable to watch it at the cinema because everyone is like "it should be an 18 so the kidees can't watch it", a 15 rating will be fine thank you very much, how much different could it be?

Alien3wastheBest...
MemberOvomorphMar-28-2012 5:52 PManother thing, although the original alien film was a classic brilliant thriller, I still can't call it a horror film since I first watched it when I was 10 years old and the only scary part for me was the tension near the end when ripley is moving through the dark ship with the lights flashing and alarms sounding and 'mother' constantly reminding her how long until the ship self destructs, all of this time the alien could jump out at any moment from any corner, brilliant, this was one long sentence, all down to my ultimate grammar.
