Altered,
Yes this is the proper thread. Species has been discussed but it has been several months, I think. I think the first Species with Natasha Henstridge = Oh yeah! I think it stole from Alien though. Not so much on the creature but in the way we come about the DNA Sequence to make the creature. It runs along the same alien lines where it touches on DNA and the unknowns. Jsut my opinion though.
Regards,
Rick

I have the boxset but have only seen the first two and one of the others (can't remember which).
The antagonist Sil was actually designed by Giger, and the whole sexual element of the movie fits well with Gigers work. In the first one your really felt that there was this monster that wanted to consentually rape you so it could take over the world. But the sequels just became an excuse to show some skin and sex scenes which was a real shame, although there was the male version that appeared in 2, but it came over as OTT.
The first I felt was a really good and clever film, I especially like it when the little girl cocoons herself on the train and emerges as Natasha Henstridge. but sequel by sequel it lost its core and became badly acted sci-fi erotica.
A slightly arty alternative is Splice starring Adrien Brody.

Species 1: Great sci-fi T & A! I'm with Snork on the cocooning scene. Nicely done.
Plot... ehh. Ending CG of Sil... pleeease.
Species 2: Really? So... it's a guy this time aaaaand Sil's good?... Ash vs. Bishop?
All been done before.
Species 3 -17: Crap.
Splice was a better film all around, but again, nothing new in the "idea arena".
That's why I hope Ridley can bring us some truly fresh sci-fi/horror with Promoetheus.
