MemberOvomorph02/2/2012hi all not sure if its been brought up before but what use does the space jockeys chair have? could it be some sort of weapon that shoots eggs onto planets and was it shot down before it could carry out the attack?

MemberXenomorph02/2/2012This is something that has been pondered before, but its been quite some time now. Since there was a new discussion on the room itself enlight of the new trailer footage why not. There is a smaller human chair now so what is the deal with the huge old one.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012Maybe each ship has its own type of chair. A ship for defemse would have its own type verses a ship for terriforming planets.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012nah please not to shoot eggs ...that will be pathetic :D:D:D
i think is the same kind of chair ...i dont care about different style and different size ...are just production choices to me .
We have always thought that is the trasmitter ...the nostromo crew didnt notice any kind of window so we can assume is not a gun ( not a smart placement for it )
i still think is the trasmitter device

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012i think its a navigation instrument like a periscope but with a map of space and galaxies when you look through it.
However you need to be jacked in to see through it before it will work.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012I think there is a dome above the chair as seen on various images and models, but no clue if it was retractable or transparent.
Since it's really the only apparent "instrument" in the room I tend to believe it's a multifunction device. If the Jockey is truly fused with the chair, it might be able to control the device/ship directly without having to push bottons and turns knobs, etc.
This could also explain the controls seen in Prometheus images of the chair room. The big blue alien (in that form) can't interface directly with the ship, and therefor needs a more manual way to control things.
Now as to the function. Possibly some sort of navigation, and sensor array. Maybe a targeting system for weapons as well.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012I don't see why anyone is convinced the old chair and new one are different sizes- and yes I've read those discussions. Slightly different design? Somewhat yes.
There wasn't anything in the room from the trailer pics that confirm a difference in size. There is no true size reference for the "engineer" in the picture. He could be 12 feet tall- You just can't tell.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012I aways wondered if the ship was alien powered. To me the chair (especially with the helmet being tethered to the chest-piece) made me think the jockey was locked down. It makes me wonder if the alien is unwillingly powering the ship. I know it's out there, but I really can't bring myself to watch another large humanoid movie after Avatar, and I can't fathom the interaction between the space jockey race and the humans, other than using them to the advantage of the human race.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012The way the "Gun" looking part of the chair is so elongated etc, it makes it an odd choice shape to be a transmitting device. As it would appear to only transmit in a very precice angle/location. . . I think it would well be more of a kind of sensor/radar type gizmo, which aimed at the right area in space will give info about any ships i.e Prometheus maybe ;) Which could then be used to ready the Xeno egss perhaps, for their arrival. How's that sound??
