MemberOvomorph02/3/2012On the commentary of alien the 2003 cast and crew, Ridley speaks of the attack on ripley as more than just an attempted murder. He says that ash's attack is also a sexual assault and the magazine forced into her mouth is a pseudo oral sex act except he does not have the equipment to carry it out .
I never made that connection originally but its an interesting theme .
Ridley also thinks the android is 3/4 human, and a quarter biomechanoid i'm wondering if any of those similar events are likely to appear in prometheus- and since the ash model is considered (as bishop described twitchy ) i'm guessing the david model is even older and possibly even more temperamental or it could have simply been a design fault in that model.
Then again if -as some of you have pointed out, the company's intention was set from the start then was ash programmed this way or was it a malfunction of some sort.
Are the androids programmed ? or do they believe in the causes the company's claim to have their interests in ?
After all both ash and bishop were science officers , do they posses free will etc. ?

MemberTrilobite02/3/2012Well first of all Bishop was an executive officer, not a science officer.
Also Bishop said that what Ash did could no longer happen because all Synthetics are now fitted with behavourial Inhibitors that do not allow them to harm humans (I'm sure someone knows the full quote).
i think they are probably bound by their programming, being property of WY, to follow company orders, but Bishop displayed a glimmer of free will quite a few times, whereas Ash was pretty much the companies lap dog.
I think the later models became more 'human' in their thinking and actions, so it will be interesting to see how David fits in too chronology!

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Yeah I was wondering the same thing when I posted my topic about David questioning whether he was an android or a cyborg because that would make a difference in how his behavior plays out.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Maybe David will mutate into Ash and become the Engineers lapdog and MUTH'UR is actually Ash and Ripley talking to the Engineers, who have taken over the computer systems. So this would explain why Weyland Yutani are in the dark in Aliens, etc. The Engineers may take over human technology in Alien to safely investigate LV 426 so none of their race gets infected. Maybe they have quarantined the planet; far fetched I know lols.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012yeah i was thinking bishop was examining the face hugger the same way ash appeared to thats why i thought he was a science officer.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012i'm also thinking that there may be a crisis of confidence in the android brain or more accurately a sympathetic bond / affinity with life... any life form a bit like blade runner and consequently the eggs on the derelict and the events there after are a result of davids wish for them to flourish and the signal is a warning to stay away .
Or maybe i need a break from these forums a bit lol.

MemberOvomorph02/4/2012And some of these themes have been explored in the next gen with data and more recently Battle star galactica.

MemberOvomorphJan-24-2013 9:19 AMThere was a comment about David having a 'free will'. In that sense he can manipulate what he says, how he says it and to whom he says things to shows a programmed 'free will'.
This dated thread asks the same question but in a 'Alien/Prometheus context. And that is a good thing for the current posters.
It seems like an oxymoron to have programable free will.
As A.I. and humans both evolve, like in Blade Runner, we cannot tell either species apart.
In fact if there is a difference to be made a non free will robot would be the better 'person' to determine this.
All hope is lost for humans. There is bleak future ahead.
We humans are doomed.
Now I am ready for some good news..
