MemberOvomorph01/1/2012Even though a lot of Ridleys films have won Oscars and been nominated to win Oscars he still ...(to the bewilderment of myself and millions more) has never received the coveted best director award which i find absolutely bizarre, and verging on the criminal.
Best film for gladiator but never best director, shocking when you consider
Peter Jackson
James Cameron
Danny Boyle
Steven Spielberg
and a lot of his contemporaries have... will he be ignored again for Prometheus ?
I feel he should of won it several times.
1 Blade runner.
2 Thelma and Louise
3 Gladiator
4 Black hawk down
5 Kingdom of heaven
6 American Gangster which i think will be revered as a great film in years to come
i already love that film.

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012To my mind he's too flashy, too carried away with empty, glossy visuals to really be regarded as a great. He was fortunate with 'Alien' and 'Bladerunner' to be being fed interesting ideas by more rounded people. I hope his collaborators on this new film provide some ballast so we get something more than an extended version of the trailer.

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012My Lord,
OSCARS 2000
BEST PICTURE, BEST SOUND, BEST VISUAL EFFECTS, BEST COSTUMES and a BEST ACTOR for star RUSSELL CROWE.
That's 5 Oscars for the film 4 OF WHICH ARE IN THE TOP 10 IN "IMPORTANCE VALUE" FOR ANY FILM and none for it's director after what is undeniably one the top 10 films ever made !!!
They should give him 2 as an apology for the UN FORGIVABLE mistake they made

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012With regard to American Gangster I loved that film as well, but the ending of it left me bewildered. I understood it, Just still can't understand why he went that way with it.
Never the less it was his puppy not mine and it is in fact a fantastically underrated film.

The Girl With The Giger Tattoo (AKA Li)
MemberOvomorph01/5/2012@alteredstate
Your right, Scott has been somewhat ignored. On the other hand...personally, I think that the film "KINGDOM OF HEAVEN" stinks like a bilge-rat. It was historically inaccurate, Orlando Bloom is a pussy, ripped off music from five other…better films, and it sucked up to Saladin and his merry band of cutthroats. Those jihadists were every bit as bad…or worse, than the Christian crusaders that were so lamely depicted in the film. Hey, I did two years in Iraq…and those folks mean business…now…and back then. History man…history! I hope you like your freedom.
For my money…that’s probably one of Scotts worst.
Should’ve won it for “GLADIATOR”
Ciao,
Li

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012I agree with you totally about that film {Kingdom Of Heaven} "Li". I expected so much and was so very disappointed with it.

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012Lol Reimer he's already great and that's official Ridleys a genius anyone who's dedicated their life to the visual medium like him is undeniably great even he's peers think so the problem is getting the academy to acknowledge it.
The Girl with a Giger tattoo... all films that attempt to be historical in context are inaccurate no one in Hollywood can make historical accuracy because its entertainment and history is a point of view.
Jesus people cant even report accurate something that happened last week.
If my country was being invaded i would fight tooth and nail to keep out foreign invaders
why should the muslims be any different.
The directors cut of kingdom was great i feel Orlando did his best but most people couldn't buy the fact that he could lead an army . bad casting not bad acting .
Dont even begin to get me started on the fucking iraq invasion and weapons of mass deception fuck the whole friggin world knows what that shits about.

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012Can you tell me the five other better films and the music thats been ripped off ?

Reimer
MemberOvomorph01/6/2012"Lol Reimer he's already great and that's official"
Nah, an over-promoted ad man. You wait - he won't be able to resist some product placement. "I want to scare the shit out of you...and sell you something. Mmm, this Hovis is both delicious AND wholesome".

MemberOvomorph01/10/2012well show me a movie in the last 15 years that dosen't have product placements,
and what the hell products are a part of every day life i couldn't give a toss what products are placed in a film be it Hovis or the latest anal bleaching paraphernalia.

MemberTrilobite01/24/2012Scott's been ignored what about goddamn DONALD SUTHERLAND, where the hell is his oscar!

Mr.J
MemberOvomorph01/24/2012Screw the oscars! They are just political and fake.
Scott is one heck of a director and the best film maker out there, he needs no stinking oscar!!

MemberOvomorph01/24/2012your right of course cain but a lifetime in the industry you would think some form of recognition would be honoured i never new poor old donald had been snubbed to snorky

MemberOvomorph01/24/2012I would think winning an Oscar would signify that the industry signals Prometheus is made for the masses...and not made for the true fans of the genre. There are not many films I would classify as sci fi that have won oscars except for visual design/effects.
If sci fi can't win best picture...unlikely a sci fi will ever win best director.
And to be truthful...I don't think Ridley would even care. He is a true artist and not into deviating from each of the genres he has crafted so well.
From filmsite website:
Science-fiction films don't win the Best Picture award, although they have often dominated in the Visual and Special Effects technical categories in recent years. Unheard of, two science-fiction films were nominated for Best Picture in 2009 (although there were 10 nominees): District 9 (2009) and Avatar (2009), and Inception (2010) was nominated the following year. There were only a few nominated science-fiction films before 2009, such as A Clockwork Orange (1971), Star Wars (1977) or E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982).

MemberOvomorph01/24/2012time for a change in attitude then methinks but again you are right klaatu i just think ridleys getting a bit long in the tooth and it would be nice to see him gain the respect from his peers he should of received years ago.

MemberOvomorph01/24/2012History parentesis ...
how far have fell the islamic civilization today is not an excuse for historical errors ...the Saladin was a great commander and surely more compassionate than many chrstian leaders ...he did spare almost all the christian population of JErusalem ...and he did pay personally for the liberation of the poorest ones ... we know what happen to the islamic population of jerusalem after the first crusade .
returning to ridley scott ...well alien and Bladerunner deserved that oscar

alteredstate.
MemberOvomorph01/24/2012yes two of his best films without doubt im sceptical on commenting on historical films in terms of accuracy cos its all so objective and Theoretical even historians cant agree on the truth half the time . Essentially all films even based on reality are attempts at entertainment and virtually all take artistic licence unless your dealing in documentary.
