MemberOvomorph02/13/2012Hey Guys,
Sorry for the delay. I was attempting to put all my pics and text in one long message (so the topic wouldn't look like it had so many posts which were mostly mine), and just as I went to "start discussion" (upload), my internet connection failed! ARRRRGH!
Oh well, I'm back to uploading one pic at a time... please be patient with me, I'm learning.

I hope to wear this costume to Megacon in Orlando, FL this coming weekend. I've been working on it part-time for 2 weeks and can only finish the head & shoulders and hands in time. So, I plan on putting the SJ in a business suit, carrying an ampule like a brief case (maybe).
That would allow me to finish the entire "serious" costume by the movie's premiere in June.

Supplies:
1.Chicken-wire: to form the base of the different parts (ie: head & shoulders, torso, arm and leg sections, etc...)
2. Newspaper: to crumple and cover with masking tape for larger detail.
3. Masking tape: to twist into finer detail.
4. Glue gun: to tak detail down when necessary.

Fingers; compliments of my 13 yr. old son's origami, covered with masking tape for detail.

Far enough along to try on. (Note: I'm making this at home on my dining room table... FYI: the creepy dolls belong to my wife).

Other side of hand (due to the nature and shape of my son's origami, I've taken some artistic freedom with its design).

1 hand left to make, then to cover everything in liquid latex, then air brush for detail... no sweat... 5 days left. (Wish me luck!)

MemberOvomorph02/13/2012I built a full-sized Horta for halloween when I was a kid using scrounged plywood, chicken wire, paper mache, and rolls upon rolls of masking tape. When ity was done I put it on wheels and had it chase me around the neighborhood trick or treating. Seeing this really takes me back. Nice work and thanks for sharing your work!

db
MemberOvomorph02/13/2012@skyguy1054: Thanks! Awesome that you made a Horta! Haven't thought of those in a looong time... Please post a pic. if you have one! We're you dressed as Kirk or Spock?

MemberOvomorph02/14/2012Superb db! The filigreed, sinewy detailing on the hands and neck
is just great. Does that chicken-wire inside the head rub or have you
lined it with some foam sheeting or similar for padding?

db
MemberOvomorph02/14/2012@ZetaReticli: Thanks! I haven't added foam yet. If needed, I'll put it under the shoulder/neck area for a little height boost and insulation against rubbing. I have about one inch of literal "head-room" above me so it's not needed in the actual head (yet).
