PrometheusForTheWin › Seriously, this discussion was about whether Elizabeth Shaw is gunna die or not! Whether Sigourney Weaver is involved may go start its own discussion, but that was not the poibt of this forum. Do you or do you not think that Shaw will die in this movie? That is all I want to know. Sorry if I annoyed you mate.......here's all the back and forth about Weaver from "Is it Safe to Assume..." by @PrometheusForTheWin so we can get on with it.... PrometheusForTheWin-status update-› This movie was actually Sigourney Weavers idea Cypher › @PrometheusForTheWin, where did you get the idea that this movie was Sigourney Weaver's idea? It wasn't, she just suggested that if Ridley did something like this that he make it on the Alien's homeworld....... Far as I know the idea has been kicking around since the late 90's............ Just curious is all, I know she likes to think of the Alien franchise as Ripley's and Ripley's alone (at least that's how it seems to me sometimes........ craigamore › @Cypher...I could not agree more about Weaver....You almost feel like she's more than alittle responsible for where the series went....... PrometheusForTheWin › It was in an interview that she suggested the idea for the movie to Ridley and said he should elborate on her plan, as she is not a director. I dunno if I would like if the movie ended in an obvious sequel, it was just an idea about whether it would be good. craigamore › I can't agree with this notion that 'Prometheus' was Sigourney Weaver's idea....in every interview on the topic, she refers to going back to the planet of origin to "wipe them out at the source"...............she's talikng about another xeno movie with Ripley leading the charge, the cause, whatever...pulse rifle in hand, so to speak. 'Prometheus' is another story entirely. The focus is different...the SpaceJockey race. The chronology is different. The whole point of the thing is different. Cypher › @craigamore yeah Sigourney Weaver pisses me off sometimes. I'm pretty sure you're right, and I think Ridley took that idea and went a different direction with it. I heard that she tried to block any movie being made regarding the Aliens if Ripley wasn't involved. If Ripley had died at the start of Alien 3 and Hicks and Newt had survived instead, I reckon it could have been a far better movie. She's a good actress, but has her head up her arse. craigamore › @Cypher, There really is something nebulous and self aggrandizing about the way Weaver approached the sequels and you just feel like she's squirming in her seat about 'Prometheus', like she can't bear the idea it might surpass any sequel she was eminently inolved in or even responsible for....

@craigamore "Alien" was her big break, so I cut her a bit of slack because it's obviously close to her heart. She was also pretty funny poking fun at herself in "Galaxy Quest." As to where the series went, the original was brilliant, Cameron's take was wider in scope and tonalities, so it was all but a fool's errand for anyone who wanted to take things back to -mano a mano- encounters. Viewed by themselves, the third and fourth movies aren't really bad, but they do plainly suffer in comparison to the original. The AVP mashups are just a mess. Conceptually, "Prometheus" is the most ambitious movie in the entire "Alien" lexicon, and I think it was pretty ballsy for Scott to take himself on. I get the feeling he has something to prove.

No...sorry @red hood...Keanu has his moments, but I can't see room for him in Scott's universe of serious sci-fi/horror.....Neo, the one, whatchawhosa just isn't the right fit....

@artyoh, I can agree about cutting her some slack...but there's no room for forgiving 'Alien Resurrection'...none.....it's sin of a waste of celluloid I can't barely choke down and there's just no saving it....The first two sequels moved away from what 'Alien' was, but a leas they were palatable...The fourth film, if you can even call it that, was just atrocious....a bastardization, if you will.

Meh, I didn't think Resurrection was that bad, relative to some other sci-fi/horror efforts. It even has a certain campy charm. It's a POS in comparison to either the first or the second entries, but one of those is a stand-out film, and the other is a true horror classic. Though it was well executed, the entire story premise of 3 should have been a non-starter, after "Aliens."

When Spaihts wrote the first version of the script, Keanu Reeves was attached as the lead.....not sure exactly when he left the project, but it isn't a joke...TRUST ME ON THAT.

Cool thanks craigamore Still can't believe he was even considered, that's mind boggling He's a below average actor, not very good with emotion which is why I think he was born to play the role he had in the day the earth stood still -cold, emotionless

Wow. Keanu? No. Just like no on Wynona. And definitely on Joss Whedon. None of these people should be allowed near an Alien related plot. (and I really did like Firefly...) @Red: nice pic. Where'd you snag that one? I remember hearing this interview some time ago (before Prometheus?). Sigourney talks about it being interesting to go back to the alien homeworld, which was actually explored in the Comics (yeah, I know, not really part of the mythos). But I also remember there being quotes on both sides about Ridley and Sigourney really feeding off one another during the making of the original. I don't think you can separate the genesis of this idea from either of them.

I have to disagree with you there @serratedproboscis.....Weaver has said that she felt like a fish out of water through the whole experience, felt like she had no idea what she was doing........The "genesis" of the idea, the finished film and ultimately the credit belong to Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shussett, Ridley Scott and the folks at Brandywine Productions.......Weaver, no disrespect to her, was a nobody breaking in to the biz, so to speak. She had no more "genesis" type input in the matter than the average grip or PA or any other actor for that matter. She was along for the ride, had one Hell of a good performance and walked straight into the rest of her career. You can give her that kind of credit in the sequels...not 'Alien'.

Shaw puts on SJ bio-suit after being infected, there's no Prometheus left after colliding with the derelect. She enters the chair trying to destroy the derelict and "pop!" She gives birth to the first xeno.

I am just curious Why do you even care? What possible difference does it make at all if she dies or not? I am just not seeing it.

@db - How would this tie in with the "Prometheus sequel" that Ridley has spoken about?

Plus, Keanu Reeves would not be a great fit for the Ridley Scott sci/fi horror world.
