WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THIS IS AN ALIEN MOVIE?

I agree, i doubt this is going to be a true "Alien" movie. I may not be the biggest fan of Alien but I have been watching it monthly (all 4 movies monthly) since i was 6 and i do see how people could think this is going to be an alien movie. so lets back up an take a look at the trailer shall we? At 0:24 in the trailer we see the vehicles that the team is using to get around on the planet, take a look at the logo. Im not going to say that Weyland-Yutani was the only company that did space travel an such but if it was that would probly be the company in the movie consedering that in the Second and Third Alien movies it was pretty much Weyland-Yutani that wanted the Xenos also at 0:29-0:30 you see the main chamber of where ever they are, take not at the giant face, wasnt there in alien and more importantly take a look at the egg like structures around the people. they arent eggs, therefor no xenos, next we'll be taking a look at the "ship" theyre in. (at 0:53 we see the "ship" im going to assume, then at 0:55 it pans out to show more of it) When we first got a look at the Xeno ship in 1 and 2 it kinda looked like a funky plane right? i mean it kinda did to me and still does ill have to go back to take a look at it to be sure, ANY WAY, its kinda completely round...ish.... sorta.... i mean look at it its like a huge ring. now i WILL say this in alien we did see kind of a throne in one of the rooms right well i THINK that at 0:44 (just for that brief moment we see something come up outta the floor) thats what we see and if they try to tie this to Alien then.... well thats probly going to be the thing they use. im just saying people that if you sit down an look at this trailer and compare it to the Alien movies it doesnt seem very likely that this is going to be one of them. just dont go there with your hopes up. i MAY go see it but i doubt it. in any event if i do im going to see it expecting it to be its own movie not a prequel to alien.

The movie will tie into everything a true fan knows, but remain separate enough to encourage new fans off the back of this original film. I can't see the film being too detached from Alien as it is the film that creates the monster. And remember it's only 'Weyland' in this film as far as we know, the companies have not merged; maybe they will include 'Yutani' maybe not...... I expect Ridley doesn't care less, but Fox might want it......

Idiots. . . This film has been confirmed to be either a direct prequel to Alien, or it's set in the same "universe" as Alien. Thus meaning - It IS associated with Alien on some level. . .

The link between Alien and Blade Runner is very weak, actually only that both movies have A.I. / Androids in the human society, nothing else. Prometheus however shares much more with Alien, as it has the Space Jockey and the derelict ship, The teaser trailer is using the same creepy sound effect like the egg teaser trailer for Alien, the PROMETHEUS lettering is building up on the same way like ALIEN. Not to forget that Ridley Scott himself mentioned that the last 8 minutes of this movie develops to a quite good Alien DNA. I think the classic Xenomorph won't appear in this one, but rather a similar creature and maybe the last thing we might see is either a xenomorph egg or the chestbursting from the SJ ;)

This is dumb. From the beginning this has been stated to be an origin story set in the same universe. The freaking derelict spacecraft is shown in the trailer, as is a space jockey. Wetland corporations logo is also visible. When they made the star wars prequels, they were deemed as star wars prequels and the darth vader origin story, yet darth vader only had about 45 minutes of screen time out of a more than 6 hour story. You don't need an alien queen and a chest ureter scene for this to be an alien movie, which it 100% will be based on the trailer

@LWatkins: I agree 100% with you. However there will be elements from Alien as we've seen already from the trailers. The derelict space craft and the space jockey chair are cases in point.

um....... you do know the space jockey is in it right? and the company? the only thing not in it is the alien itself, thats why its called Prometheus, not alien 5. besides that it is directly related.

The Alien IS in it...just not in the form you remember it as.

The reason I believe it is called "Prometheus" is two fold. #1-It's the name of the main protaganists' ship and more importantly... #2-I believe it is named this way because of the main feature of the entire story which to me is 100% GOING TO TURN OUT TO BE THIS IDEA... SOMEONE ON BOARD PROMETHEUS, STEALS SOMETHING{S} just as the mythological figure stole FIRE from the g-ds and gave that technology to Mankind. VIALS !!!

to be honest i posted my first comment before actually reading up on the movie cause i was too tired to do so just like im pretty tired right now. anyway i still doubt im going to enjoy this movie cause i want to know some pretty specific things about the Alien history (movie wise) and i doubt ill get that outta this movie; however, if there is going to be a sequel to the prequel like some people think an is being hinted at then i think thats what ill be looking forward to. any way good morning imma go pass out now

and to elaborate on what i wanna know (cause i stopped looking up info on aliens long ago) how the ship they were in got on LV-426, where did they come from, how did they get transported from there, whats their favorite food, do they sleep? are some of them nice? do they brush their teeth, and more importantly what happens when they lose a tooth.... okay so maybe not the last 3 or 4 but i still got some questions i want answered in a movie! i just realized something that kinda just made me look like a jerk in my first post... if this is a prequel to alien then it wouldnt matter if they go to check out the same ship that ripley went to check out.... they could have moved the family into the new ship that these guys land in!...... i feel stupid

Geoph, I just woke up so I'll try and make sense of this. What do you want to know specifically about the Alien history? You really should read through the forums there is a lot of good information in here. Craigo and Ripley Clone 8 knows a lot about the Alien Storyline even though we agree to disagree on the corporation because I have his eggo, Snorkler (Snorklebottom) is very knowledgeable about Aliens and Alien Anatomy, Sparky (Sparticus) and Biomech are very knowledgeable about Giger related stuff. Ruh (Ruhianya) knows a lot about hallucingenic perishables and Alien Toys, Cypher knows alot about Guyver (yeah I know unrelated but still cool), BugHunter is into Predators (yeah I know he has a nasty fetish :P), oh and my bud Neurion he is good at lurking. Oh dear, you know it would be a real joy if on some level we had an indication of peoples ages on here that way i wouldn't have to keep rolling my eyes at the naive babble that gets turfed out on some of these threads and i can forgive some of the younger posters for some of their inane speculation. .... that was slightly nice what you said Priest till i got to the last bit, anyway what i want to really know is ive heard that the aliens were made by another race of aliens to create crap pretty much and first i wanna know if thats true, second id like to know how they ended up on LV-426, thrid is where did they originate (and thats the most important) cause i view the aliens as kinda like a virus, they keep changing and mutating after each host so id really like to see what the "Case 0" outbreak of the aliens looked like and what their "home world" looks like. if its infested with aliens and the whole planet looks like what the colony on LV-426 looked like or if it is diffrent because those aliens would be completely different from the ones we know of and have seen. I think, to be honest, most of my questions cant be answered cause i wanna know so much (>,>) i think maybe if they made a sequel to the AVP 2010 game, cause Weyland-Yutani found the home planet of the aliens, most of my questions would be answered but i doubt thatll happen. like i said a lotta the stuff id like to know i probly wont be getting the answers to (Q.Q)

A lot of what you want to know @Geoph, will be explained in 'Prometheus' from what we've been able to gather so far...you're more pointed questions about the alien's origin are some of the most vague and murky elements in the slow trickle of information we've had......so, either wait and see what if anything we can gather from the next trailer or wait until June 8th.....

yeah im not trying to troll, trust me youd be able to tell cause instead of acting all nice and.... timid i guess, id be all confident and cocky and actually probly get kicked from the site (>,>) [not good at trolling but i am good at makin people hate me] and i cant spell, im just using spell check while im on this site so i seem edjumacated. anyway i used to know a whoooole lotta stuff about predators (was a huge fan freak for a long time) but i think ive forgotten most of what i knew.... except that i read this comic once (AVP one i think) dude (meaning a predator) was missing an arm an still rippin an tearin up all sorts of aliens... was pretty cool... what was my point again? >,>... oh yeah, i just saw the 11 min gameplay sneak peak at Aliens Colonial Marines (the game that was suppose to come out in 2008 then 2010 then 2011 then next month now September) and ive gotta say, it looks good. picks up 2 weeks after Aliens the movie and the new marines go back to LV-426 to figure out what happened. anyway they put in some new mutations of the aliens due to radiation i guess (i think they said something like that) any way they can come up with GREAT new ideas for "new" aliens so if there are going to be xenos in this one (which by what everyone was yelling at me about earlier) i cant wait to see what they look like and what they can do. itd be pretty sick to see one of the facehuger throwers in this movie from the AVP PS2 game but i doubt that theyll ever put those guys in a movie lol

(oh and hey since you guys are down with Alien youve probly seen Aliens right? well if you remember when the marines go down to the reactor level of the station to see what everyone is doing down there they get ambushed (as we all know and love cause a group of 20 marines gets dropped to 6) anyway if you remember the yelling over the coms when the camra cuts back to the tank Ripley is in you can hear Hudson yelling over the coms along with a few other marines. I need, ABSOLUTELY NEED, you guys to rewatch that scene. NEXT you need to watch AVP2 (Requiem [meaning celebration for the dead if i remember correctly... anyway]) *spoiler* when the national guard comes in on mainstreet the main group is talking to them over the radio/toolbox they got from in the store. listen closely, not to the characters but to the radio. if youve listened "properly" youll know you have. its good, its really good, so far im one of the only few people that actually "figured" it out. anyway good night, have fun, and most importantly.... I heard that as soon as I saw that abortion in the cinema. So about 3 years ago. Full of fan service it is though, it still sucked. I haven't seen it since then. AvP:R was OK for something to do Christmas day (which is when it came out here) but it didn't grab me like I hoped it would. The fan-service bits were good though, but I think maybe too much thought went into that kind of stuff rather than a decent story....... But it was good to kill a few hours :-D
