WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THIS IS AN ALIEN MOVIE?

L.Watkins
MemberOvomorphFebruary 23, 20122265 Views45 RepliesNot to piss in everyone's Cherrios but I think Prometheus is going to be as related to Alien as Blade Runner was to Alien, being that the theme, setting dystopia are similar with maybe just a little more reconizable parrallels and lapses.
EX. The Replicants in Blade Runner are the "ancestors/prequel" to Ash in Alien. Alien twist- To prevent the "Blade Runner - Retirement" incidents they replaced the more organic Blood for the Milky/Seminal-like fluid for Ash to better distinguish them from humans (Ash drinks 'milk' in Alien, probably for the nutritional benefits).
Pardon the digression, anyway, the Filmmakers have stated that the movie will have parallels, but is definately something more than an "Alien" movie that we know of.
Beware of "Twists/tie ins" - Remember the big "twist" in AVP-R, with the Weyland-Yutani tie in, the Strauss' were hyping about. . . it could be that relevant
For all the Alien Fans out there; don't set the Xenomorph expectation too high. . .

I agree, i doubt this is going to be a true "Alien" movie. I may not be the biggest fan of Alien but I have been watching it monthly (all 4 movies monthly) since i was 6 and i do see how people could think this is going to be an alien movie. so lets back up an take a look at the trailer shall we?
At 0:24 in the trailer we see the vehicles that the team is using to get around on the planet, take a look at the logo. Im not going to say that Weyland-Yutani was the only company that did space travel an such but if it was that would probly be the company in the movie consedering that in the Second and Third Alien movies it was pretty much Weyland-Yutani that wanted the Xenos also at 0:29-0:30 you see the main chamber of where ever they are, take not at the giant face, wasnt there in alien and more importantly take a look at the egg like structures around the people. they arent eggs, therefor no xenos, next we'll be taking a look at the "ship" theyre in. (at 0:53 we see the "ship" im going to assume, then at 0:55 it pans out to show more of it) When we first got a look at the Xeno ship in 1 and 2 it kinda looked like a funky plane right? i mean it kinda did to me and still does ill have to go back to take a look at it to be sure, ANY WAY, its kinda completely round...ish.... sorta.... i mean look at it its like a huge ring. now i WILL say this in alien we did see kind of a throne in one of the rooms right well i THINK that at 0:44 (just for that brief moment we see something come up outta the floor) thats what we see and if they try to tie this to Alien then.... well thats probly going to be the thing they use.
im just saying people that if you sit down an look at this trailer and compare it to the Alien movies it doesnt seem very likely that this is going to be one of them. just dont go there with your hopes up. i MAY go see it but i doubt it. in any event if i do im going to see it expecting it to be its own movie not a prequel to alien.

Sheeesh Geoff, what an incoherent load of babble that was, you spoke a lot but said absolutely nothing! Everyone on this forum is more than aware of the threads and connections to Alien. Stay off our case! Peace

The movie will tie into everything a true fan knows, but remain separate enough to encourage new fans off the back of this original film. I can't see the film being too detached from Alien as it is the film that creates the monster. And remember it's only 'Weyland' in this film as far as we know, the companies have not merged; maybe they will include 'Yutani' maybe not...... I expect Ridley doesn't care less, but Fox might want it......

Idiots. . . This film has been confirmed to be either a direct prequel to Alien, or it's set in the same "universe" as Alien. Thus meaning - It IS associated with Alien on some level. . .

The link between Alien and Blade Runner is very weak, actually only that both movies have A.I. / Androids in the human society, nothing else.
Prometheus however shares much more with Alien, as it has
the Space Jockey and the derelict ship, The teaser trailer is using the
same creepy sound effect like the egg teaser trailer for Alien,
the PROMETHEUS lettering is building up on the same way
like ALIEN.
Not to forget that Ridley Scott himself mentioned that the last
8 minutes of this movie develops to a quite good Alien DNA.
I think the classic Xenomorph won't appear in this one, but rather
a similar creature and maybe the last thing we might see is either
a xenomorph egg or the chestbursting from the SJ ;)

This is dumb. From the beginning this has been stated to be an origin story set in the same universe. The freaking derelict spacecraft is shown in the trailer, as is a space jockey. Wetland corporations logo is also visible.
When they made the star wars prequels, they were deemed as star wars prequels and the darth vader origin story, yet darth vader only had about 45 minutes of screen time out of a more than 6 hour story. You don't need an alien queen and a chest ureter scene for this to be an alien movie, which it 100% will be based on the trailer

Lols @Xenophobe and hicksandhudson, I was trying to be nice with my answer, but I like the directness of both of your replies.......

@hicksandhudson
Guaranteed a reboot of ALIEN franchise, branching off to new unexplored territories. Interstellar warfare could be one direction this one is going. Damon Lindelof has written for STAR TREK about long standing inter galactic grudge, Guy Pearce stars in a time-travelling movie called TIME MACHINE where there is a long standing grudge between Eloi & Morlocks, Patrick Wilson stars in a movie where there is an all powerful blue humanoid demigod who lives on Mars, Kate Dickie stars in 2 Old England medieval dramas, HBO Games of Throne & Pillars of Earth, both centering politics between powerful clans, Noomi Rapace is best known for her work in DRAGON TATTOO where she is raped and consequently takes a sweet revenge on her rapist, Benedict Wong stars in SUNSHINE, a scifi drama where a crew goes on a suicide mission to the Sun to save the world (!), Michael Fassbender is in little seen horror thriller called EDEN LAKE, where he & his girlfriend are vacationing in an paradise-like spot before murderous teenagers accuse them of encroaching their territory (!), Idris Elba plays a military type in 28 WEEKS LATER about a quarantined city where all kinds of monstrosities break free (!), Charlize Theron is known for her scifi work in AEON FLUX where she plays a mysterious operative sent to assassinate a man who found a cure for a deadly virus that wipes out millions of people.
The hints are all there in the casting.

@LWatkins: I agree 100% with you. However there will be elements from Alien as we've seen already from the trailers. The derelict space craft and the space jockey chair are cases in point.
February 23, 2012
um....... you do know the space jockey is in it right? and the company? the only thing not in it is the alien itself, thats why its called Prometheus, not alien 5. besides that it is directly related.
February 23, 2012
The reason I believe it is called "Prometheus" is two fold.
#1-It's the name of the main protaganists' ship and more importantly...
#2-I believe it is named this way because of the main feature of the entire story which to me is 100% GOING TO TURN OUT TO BE THIS IDEA...
SOMEONE ON BOARD PROMETHEUS, STEALS SOMETHING{S} just as the mythological figure stole FIRE from the g-ds and gave that technology to Mankind.
VIALS !!!
February 23, 2012
Yeesh....@L.W atkins, @Geoph, @GreatBoosUp.............It is a prequel to 'Alien', set in the same universe...........stop with the nonsense.............here's a news report from this site entitled 'Prometheus is an Alien Prequel Says Ridley Scott':
"An interview on MTV with Ridley Scott just popped up today, following the Space Jockey mask images we reported on yesterday. In this interview, Ridley Scott finally gives in and mentions how Prometheus is in fact a prequel to Alien.
“I have to redesign the elements that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the face hugger…I don’t want to repeat it. The alien in a sense as a shape is worn out..maybe we’ll come up with something different. What we’re trying to do is squeeze in two prequels…if you explain who he was and where he came from then you want to find out where they came from and you might was to go to this place where his people come from. ” – Ridley Scott
Going by this recent update we can also now look forward to a Prometheus sequel Alien prequel. How confusing!"
So...guess what, enough with the not related to 'Alien' nonsense....please....for Heaven's sake.....spare us the ignorance.
February 23, 2012
L.Watkins - You are hereby deemed a troll for such nonsense. Heaven forbid a director and cast don't spill the truth and details regarding this film. As others have stated, do yourself a favor and actually *watch* the trailer.

**** MODERATION WARNING****
Guys,
Tone the Troll Banter down. Geoph has posting characteristics of someone all too familiar to all of us. We will have to see what comes of this topic. L.W. I am going to edit your post to remove a bit of the sexual connotations in it but over all a bit abrasive but still a valid discussion. Being that this is your first thread I will give you some latitude but be aware I am lurking around these forums keeping the peace.
