MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 12:22 AMThis is a posting from AVP Galaxy net which I thought is very very interesting regarding the original ALIEN and its follow-up PROMETHEUS
[i]the first alien film is the only [real] alien film to me. one reason being it was a very spiritual and psychological film. the monster wasnt just an alien or an animal. it was an idea. the whole thing revolved around sexual fear and ripley's reluctance to marry or have children [her lack of a love interest and lack of feminine qualities as is contrasted by lambert]
the film worked so well because it wasnt about an alien. it was about human psychology and it raped the minds of the viewers and touched them in ways few things ever have. and the religious references/spiritual references were there as well. [although im not sure how much of them were intended].
the alien was very much a demon and the ship was a host body.
but i didnt come here to write a full analysis of my thoughts, i came to say that i completely agree with ridley scott when he [ripley/ridley?] says that this film will not have the alien and will not take from any film but the first one. in my opinion the alien as it should be only existed in the first one. and to have it outside the confines of the ship [the subconscious] would make it ineffective.
the new film is religious because if he does this one on the same themes as the first it will be fully psychological and use aliens and space ships only as metaphors. not really as concrete things that can be cloned as sequels. [hence why the alien sequels always never hit near the mark of what the first one represented]
and i guess my final point [if i have one, im sup way past my bed time lol] is that if the space jockeys and aliens are different from what is expected you should try thinking about them less in the vein of substance and more in the vein of the metaphorical and symbolic. if this film is anywhere near as complex as the first one then there may be a ton of things that wont look right from a glance but in the context of the story may be f**king brilliant.[/i]

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 1:47 AMI have to agree with this post on AVP galaxy...Ridley Scott seems to have this habbit of leaving everything up to the interpretation of the viewer in most of his movies (I have to exclude "Robin Hood")

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 2:03 AMIt's sad that no one has anything to post on your topic, Engr101...guess that just shows how stupid and unimaginative the world has become

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 5:05 AMI think is not a problem of being stupid ( be a bit more polite .... ) ...the problem is that one can see whatever he want ... and if one start sayng "ohh great idea" to every point of view , about every speculation , about every critic opinion ...well at the end he have NO point of view .
This idea kindly posted by Engr101 is nice but ...meh ... can be ...can be not ... can be a bit everything ..everyone of us can sort out his personal idea about alien ... I think they just wanted to do a great sci-fi horror flick , they hired an original artist , Scott mixed everything togheter ..and it worked perfectly ... why we have always think there is some hidden meaning ?? Some secret message ???

The movie can be enjoyed on many different levels. You can enjoy it as a genre story, as a "monster on the loose" movie, as a thought-provoking scifi, or as the AVP poster articulated, see it as a metaphor for Ripley's fear of sexual relationship. We all know that some women do like men but they see our organ as a disgusting, repulsive ...uhm, appendage.

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 8:58 AMyea, that the way how i always wanted to describe the ideal style of movie must be, as i consider the Prometheus will be...
"Small things will appear to have a great importance..." Remember this...

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 1:00 PM@Frantz...the nature of the artistic world is entirely subjective that's kind of the point of any art form.......The value of such creation comes from the place where multiple perspectives meet on a particular concpet as touched upon in a created work of art...the artist's or creator's perspective on his or her work's meaning and the juxtapositon of that point of view with that of his or her audience.....
Whether we agree with @Engr101and the original poster on AVP Galaxy or not isn't the point....that they saw anything in this film others may or may have not seen and brought it to our attention is [b]everything[/b]....That expression of opinion is what makes art valid, woth our time and interest, otherwise there's no point in creating it whatsoever.
You can agree or disagree with them all you want....it will never invalidate the opinion, because it doesn't work that way; wheter they're right or wrong, the discussion they create from it is what's important.
About this..... "... and if one start sayng "ohh great idea" to every point of view , about every speculation , about every critic opinion ...well at the end he have NO point of view."...........It's impossible for any artist not to have a point of view, the very nature of creation implies a point of view by default....that act of creating is a decision to build upon one's ideas and present them to others in a particular way, which implies meaning in the presentation, in this case storytelling.....There's a point there for everyone to see, like it or not.........
The only artists closest to ever creating without a point were the Dada artists of the early 20th century and even they, by the act of creating, by saying we're creating for the sake of creating with no meaning intended, forced a point of view upon themselves.
So, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with @Engr101......but I'm intrigued by his point of view and that has validity in itself.....that's why we're here isn't it?...because we see things worth seeing, worth the time and expense of expression and passion.....

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 8:29 AMthe original Alien did actually move very spooky..slowly and creepy like a nightmare, though it could be very fast, too..
I like his movements in the scene with Lambert and Brett in the locker..( at 1.31 )

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 11:49 AMThe first movie was quite good becouse it was the first of its kind, but i have to say that my personal favourite is the "aliens" bocouse there the humans actually have the change to wipe them out and it has several good actors in it. 3rd alien movie is great becouse of the spiritual and hegemonial ending of LT.Ripley...
i´ll hope that the "Prometheus" has link to the alien (s) or even have thoose things on the ship and waiting to know hoe the Waylend Corporations finally get to know about this speicies. Cant wait in cold Finland!!!!

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 7:23 PMWell, Ridley picked the perfect writer to help with the script if he is looking for a movie with big ideas, but vague enough for the viewers' imaginations to run wild! I think we will be talking about this movie for decades. Personally, I like closure and a concrete understanding of the storyteller's intentions. Johnny Darko was cool, but it drove me bonkers until I saw the director's-cut DVD with the pop-ups that explain what the heck is going on! I hope they give us a killer DVD for Prometheus with lots of commentary. More "webisodes" would definitely be nice too =)
