Star map room is not on the derelict at all.

Just a thought but is one suit a weyland suit and the other a yutani suit? Is there a race on for discovering mans origins like the sea farers and explorers of history went off to make new discoveries from different countries? This is an assumption but not a particually bad one

I think its too early to be sure where that starmap appears. If its on earth why is the one crew member (most People here say, it would be David the Android) wearing the helmet? The structure if that room actually Looks quite like tge same room where the infamous SJ cockpit Elevates from the center of that room. Also, there is no confirmation, That LV426 will be displayed at all In this movie. So far it was only Sheer speculation that it would be On the planetoid from alien and aliens And it would be the same derelict ship.

They wear helmets and they can still be on Earth because maybe the temple is...underwater? One of LOST episodes features a temple that can be accessed if one to swim through a subterranean water tunnel...

africa does not generally have geography like this Mexico has cenotes but I don't think it's on earth but perhaps your right the're underwater suits hard to say but they don't seem to have air tanks on them.... Clutching at straws a bit but I still going to stick to good old fashioned competition idea... It makes more sense that there is other companies also looking for a breakthrough before say a merger against a newly considered common enemy.

because it is after the merger? 2 planets are featured and we see that other disc shaped ship so I am thinking competion at the begining but not at the end of the movie it would be more a common goal not to have mankind extinct so this helps the merger on a second mission or paves the way to a merger

I was always under the impression that the star map room would be seen reletively early in the film and would point them towards LV-426 or perhaps another planet where they will find the derelict ship.

yes I think that makes sense but I think the competion will be first to reach the star map room... Discover mankinds origins etc then they find they must work together instead of destroying eachother to avert the extinction of mankind... It's been done before but there will be other forces at play namely weyland and david and shaw so there is the main triangle I think you can expect. Does Shaw leave on the same expedition as weyland or are they in competion this remains to be seen but is plausible... Shaw may know somthing Weyland does not about the findings on earth through her father and gets funded by yutani to beat weyland to it? It's all speculation this but worth considering so is it the prometheus vs the maghellen first to the post atleast thats what I am drawing from various leaks and hints I picked up here the last couple of days

@Milos i agree, i imagine them finding it on an expedition or something and then that sparks the new expedition or race (if yutani is involved) to find the meaning of life in space.

Excellent catch there zim, the suits are good for explaining timeline. But on the other hand, there is an event which happens to Shaw in the trailer where she gets blown away, perhaps giving her a reason to change suits. The same is true for Vickers as well but we haven't seen too much of David yet. He might not of needed a suit with straps unlike the other two (and what do the straps do, inflate or something? lol). As far as the room goes, it's the ceiling that gives it away. It matches the centre of the derelict which can be seen on the outside. The same room where the "big gun" rises from the floor. The rest needs to be explained with motive. We've seen many different shots of David, Shaw and Holloway exploring the ampule room together and (unless you want to disagree with the room's location of course) we've got a pretty good idea that Shaw and David have been on the derelict. They seem to be a tightly-knit team of explorers in their own right. Therefore it's hard to imagine David is standing in the star map room completely alone. And if Shaw is really on the ship with him, it means that the picture we see of the star map room occurs towards the end of the movie because the shots we've seen with Shaw on the ship have her wearing the same strap-suit that she has after the crash. The ampule discovery and the gone with the wind scene has to be before all of this. That's how I see it anyway.

I can't make out enough detail from suit worn by the crew member in the "Star Map" still from the trailer. I think the jury is still out on this one.

Actually you don't even need a spacesuit for a reference to see that the star map is in the same room as the Space Jockey chair. Look at the base that David is standing on while in the middle of the star chart. It's the same design and construction as the base of the Space Jockey chair that rises up out of the hole in the center of the base.

@GreatBoosUp wrong, if you look at the sets in the "in _ days" trailers, you can see that unlike in alien, the space jockey chair i no longer on a disk, its just a round floor. go look if you don't believe me.

@invaderzim42: Why do I have to use the preview teasers for the official trailer to make this comparison? Why can't you use the shots of the star map room and the Space Jockey chair room in the official trailer as the comparison? And why are you referring to the movie Alien at all? This is Prometheus we're talking about. The Space Jockey ship in Alien is derelict, so most of the floor around the SJ chair has been worn away. In Prometheus, the Space Jockey ship is not derelict but fully functioning and completely intact. I think it's you that's wrong.

Is the discussion whether the star map room is on the Derelict we know from ALIEN? That question is unsettled. We do not know definitively if the SJ ship interior we see is the same ship in ALIEN. Look at the sarcophogi layout... Furthermore, IMHO the scene with the stars occurs before the scene with the bluy guy because the left sided sarcophagus has it's "lid" missing - hence it is "open" ...

It looks like in the foreground of the Star Map room you can see the back of a "chair" with some kind of console in front of it. I hadn't noticed until Nephilim mentioned that they could be the same room. Though I'm still not 100% that they are.

@takka Maybe the wayland androids(I'm sorry, synthetic person..) needs oxygen for fuel.
