MemberOvomorphMar-05-2012 6:23 PMweyland's techology terraforming and biological engineering are things he or his family learned from discovering artifacts from the space jockeys
the space jockeys terraformed earth and they created human beings to be their servants the two exact major technologies that weyland industries dabbles in
he is known for making humanoid cybernetic beings and for terraforming
these artifacts are also how weyland knows where to find the jockeys

Actually I think that Weyland doesn't own terraforming technology yet.
But it will discover it maybe at the end of the film, because I think there will be survivors at the end. Imo terraforming technology is something to big to be known by humans at this time. They don't have the biothing to launch the process.
But I think that what they discovered on earth lead them to the perfect sybernetic individual, David, who is also part of the mission on the strange planet.
What they found on this archeological site in Africa make them (the Weyland Ins.) think that they could find something bigger, the power of creating life, and also seeding planets...

I think Weyland´s site states that they have it, at least in a rudimentary form:
"By the age of fourteen, he had already registered a dozen patents in a wide range of fields from biotech to robotics, but it would be his dynamic breakthroughs in generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap that gained him worldwide recognition and spawned an empire.
In less than a decade, Weyland Corporation became a worldwide leader in emerging technologies and launched the first privatized industrial mission to leave the planet Earth. "There are other worlds than this one," Sir Peter boldly declared, "And if there is no air to breathe, we will simply have to make it.""
