MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 12:10 PMOk so the Weyland site says celebrating 50 yrs of building better worlds....If Weyland was born at the turn of the Millennium (say 1990 for arguments sake) then he'd be only 33 when the TED video was filmed. So how is the company celebrating 50 yrs and he founded it if he's only 33....on the other hand...if he started it when he was 14 when he got his first patents(which still doesn't add up to 50 yrs)...that would make him 64 in the video and that would only happen if the TED video was in 2054 not 2023
And someone posted that he's only 23 in the TED video and had premature aging that's why he looked so old....but that doesn't add up still
and his father was only a self-taught software Engineer so he didn't start the company earlier or it would have said so.....
this has been bothering me since the Company web page came up....any ideas

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 12:42 PMMy take is that Weyland Corp. is celebrating its 50th anniversary - parts of the website state "Weyland Corp 50" - and Peter's talk in 2023 was one of, if not the, seminal moment in Weyland Corp's history.
And now that I really think about it, I don't think the website has officially stated what year it is (in the Weyland Corp's universe). So it could be Peter formed Weyland Corp in 2020, spoke in 2023, and now it's 2070 - 50 years after its formation.
Note that the website will have a timeline to clear this all up. Stay tuned!

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 12:54 PMI'll just go with Peter Weyland being born in 1979. Which would make him 44, in 2023. This way, the Guy Pearce character fits the date/time.
...And if the company was formed in 2020, then he'd be 41 at that time. I'm cool with that...
But if Ridley is doing Blade Runner and Prometheus, back-to-back, I'm betting that the two universes will tie-in together, and the supposed timeline for both, will match up.

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 1:01 PM@ Darthspock if the company was formed in 2020 then in 2023 they can't be celebrating 50 yrs...in order for that to work he'd have had to started the company in 1973 and be born in 1959 which would make him 64 in 2023

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 1:09 PMTrue. Good catch there...
Maybe his dad started it, and he never really got it going like his son did...?
Anything is possible. The original events of the Alien movie were suppose to take place, from June 6th-9th, 2122.
And in certain circles (Alien canon), in 2020, Faster Than Light travel was developed...

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 1:10 PMYeah your math is wrong, it is actually 2073 and the video is to celebrate 50 years (2023) of Weyland's speech.

Sir Peter Weyland's 2023 Ted Talk is considered one of the most pivotal moments in Weyland Corp history. It launched the man and his entire world view into the international spotlight, foreshadowing the rapid and legendary rise of what would become the world’s largest, most successful company.
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF BUILDING BETTER WORLDS.
At Weyland Industries we apply science, technology and our unparalleled global network of resources to the pursuit of Building Better Worlds.

Worlds have risen and worlds have fallen. That’s why at Weyland Industries we’re in the business of Building Better Worlds.

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 1:26 PMMs. Yutani is 32, in 2004...
Peter Weyland is 25ish in that time period (assuming).
Early 22nd Century
Deep space mining station established by Weyland-Yutani Corporation on the planet Thedus beyond the Outer Rim.
Space port established in the Solomon Islands.
Estimated from evidence in Alien.
I'm thinking the merger is to take place, after the events of Prometheus. Certainly would satisfy the timeline.

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 2:05 PMI agree with Theusprom as well. I figure also what better way to honor the speech than to either start building the Prometheus or if already built launch it 50 years after the speech. I think it would tie in nicely with the "Prometheus speech".

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 2:08 PMI got something that'll really bake your noodle here...
In the 1st AVP film C W Bishop dies in 2004.
Between 2004 and 2175... the Year of The Nostromo... there are 170 years.
Who is Ted, C W's suposed Son?...Grandson...?...Great Grandson...?..cause the Whole thing Makes no Sense!

MemberTrilobiteMar-06-2012 4:14 PMI get your confusion now Sparky, you have got truly tangled, let me unravel you...
2000 - Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) born (turn of millenium)
2004 - Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen AVP) CEO and founder of Weyland Industries dies.
2023 - Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) attends the TED conference and unveils his new company Weyland Corporation.
2073 - Date on website (weylandindustries.com) looks back to 50 years of the Weyland Corporation "Building Better Worlds" under its CEO Sir Peter Weyland.
2085 - Prometheus, Sir Peter Weyland (Probably) dies.
2122 - Alien
2179 - Aliens
2179 - Alien 3
2381 - Alien Rez.
Silly Spark, Ted is not a person its a conference.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 7:28 AMWhen Guy pearce Dies as Peter Weyland I will believe it all menawhile how old is he supposedly when Charles dies?
Where does the year 2122 comes from?
Is it becuase someone once {Paul Resier} said "57 years" and someone else counted backwards from some date that was never stated in "Aliens"?

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 7:36 AMAs I said in the other thread sparky...
ripley confronts burke about sending the colonists to the derelicts coordinates, the order is dated '79, earlier in the film Burke state that ripley was in hypersleep for 57 years... 79 - 57 = 22. thus 2122.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 7:42 AMright, makes perfect sense, forgot about that
so how old is Peter when Charles dies?

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 10:55 AMPeter Weyland (Guy Pearce) was born at the turn of the millenium, is what is being said which means 1999-2001. Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen - AVP) dies in 2004, thus his son Peter would have been 3-5 years old.
This also means he would be 22-24 years old in the TED (conference) Video. Yes he looks older, but that is because he is supposed to have the same illness as JF Sebastien did in Bladerunner.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 10:59 AMGreat so he's 140 by the time the Nostromo rolls around and somehow we cannall just make it 110 while he's a dying old man on the Prometheus? IMO, Nothing in that TED web site will have any place in the film. Maybe some of it's sequel{s} but IMO, not this one.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 11:10 AMIf he lived long enough Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) would be 121-123 years old by the time of the Nostromo, but he wasn't in Alien so I don't understand the reference?!?
In Prometheus, which is allegedly set in 2085 (originally it was to be set 30 years before Alien, which would be 2092), at this point Peter Weyland would be 84-86 years old, thus most likely the old man.
IMO Peter Weyland will probably die in Prometheus, so therefore will definitely not be Alien, which he never was so I don't understand Sparky why you keep asking how old he be by the time of Alien?!?

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 11:21 AMThe reference I am making is to address this issue that somehow that old man on Prometheus is Guy Pearce's character.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 11:48 AMYes, it could well be as he would be 84-86 by that point.
But why do want to know how old he would be by the time of Alien?

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 12:57 PMbecause I am questioning the validity of him being whatever age he is on board Prometheus, I am overtly paranoid that the math just doesn't add up or worse, that they were making it up as they went along.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 1:02 PMIn Prometheus Peter Weyland will be approximately 85 years old, thus he could very well be the old man we have seen. Stop worrying it all adds up.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 1:03 PMOK, next question...what kind of irresponsible Company anywhere anytime puts an 85 year old ass, on a Space Exporation vessell?

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 1:13 PMOh come on Sparky thats easy...
The same company thats owed by the 85 year old ass, he may be old, he may be near death but he's still the boss.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 1:24 PMI knew that, I was making a point, It was supremely irresponsible of himself to put himself on that ship if that's him so whatever happens to him I hope it's realy painful.
LOL.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-07-2012 1:41 PMHe obviously feels strongly about being there, it must be important to him

Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 1:44 PMIf I were him and knew Vickers was On that ship...I'd have done the same.
=:)
