MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 7:08 AMI was a SETI member years ago. I even used my kid's connecton with it in a short film. It was very cool... as I remember when ever the computer was on, SETI would run in the background... collating data for different transmissions they would recieve. That way they processed big stuff a little at a time over thousands of computers... ah, the power of the internet.

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 9:05 AMI used to be a SETI member as well, I still have the downloadable SETI certificate that I was awarded with at the end of the SETI program! Back then it was a small program that analysed the data packets sent over the internet. You could choose to run it as your screensaver if your computer was not fast enough to run it in the background.
Unfortunately no signs of intelligent life were found.
Well, at least that's what they told.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 9:18 AMThis is totally different. you actually go through signal pages and evaluate any signals you might find....like GPS shadows, satellite trails or signals from beyond

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 9:26 AMVery cool. I think I'll re-join. Does it still run constantly or is it a separate program (or app.) that you have to start and stop yourself.

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 9:28 AMno program or app. just go to the site and you can start classifying images of signals as soon as you sign up. it's that easy

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 9:36 AMLooks interesting, though the fact that one has to take part actively would reduce the actual time and resources dedicated to it. :(

MemberOvomorphMar-07-2012 11:03 AMBeing an active participant is one of things i like about it....if people can find time to reply to theses boards or other stuff they can find time to help search if they want to and no extra resources needed but your eye's and a computer
