The South Pole has no ice in Weyland Earth

The Weyland site pic... no ice at south pole ?

Remember in the Weyland bio that came with the Ted talk how it said Weyland Corp started their terraforming experiments at the poles...?
Have any islands or low lying areas disappeared?

Recall in "Alien" that Ripley tries to contact Antarctica Traffic Control:
"This is commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, out of the Solomons, registration number 1-8-0-niner, 2-4-6-0-niner, calling Antarctica Traffic Control. Do you read me, over?"
So it's not unreasonable to assume that Antarctica has been populated in some way. Perhaps it was the only large vacant space they could find to use.

Excellent point clayj ! That's the sort of data we need. No ifs ands or buts!
Found the bio from the Ted Talk:
"By the age of fourteen, he had already registered a dozen patents in a wide range of fields from biotech to robotics, but it would be his dynamic break-throughs in generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap that gained him worldwide recognition and spawned an empire."
Polar means it could be either ice cap. Artic (N) or Antarctic (S).
Looks like the North pole is not as white as it should be either!

No land under the Arctic ice cap, though -- there is a largish continent with mountains underneath the Antarctic ice cap.

Someone has cut around the edge of the original picture, removing an already barely-visible icecap. It effects the entire image even before the glow is added, not just the bottom part.
An innocent consequence of the editing process methinks...

IMHO - Weyland Corp must of had substantial world-government approval to start these terraforming experiments on such a large scale. And now in 2073 they have 63 off-world colonies. I wonder how long it takes to terraform a planet? Do they send in cybernetics like David to do the dirty work? Hmmm interesting!

I think it was very intentional that they removed the Antarctic - and a very good catch indeed. I've been looking at the Weyland site for little details like that, and believe me, this has all been well thought out.
re: how long it takes to terraform a planet..I'm sure this will be answered in the movie.

Nephilim_LV426,
Wow, beautiful catch...
Ya, I believe we will see a whole planet terraformed.. I guess for a movie to be "Epic" it has to have a lot of phases..

If he was successful in "generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap" that does not mean he was able to allow those areas to be populated. It states atmosphere 'above' not 'on'. So I'm thinking it simply means he was able to seal the hole in the ozone layer artificially.
Hmm, but I could be crazy! LOL

That original Image is the same one fox used in the AVP film and for me, sorry to say, that makes anythng and everything it may pertain to Null and Void !!!

Sorry if this is OT but has anyone given any thought to this transition animation on the Weylandindustries website:

When you see this it means the page is being built. I couldn't help but wonder if this is a clever representation of a planet being built or teraformed by small nanotech orbs.
March 14, 2012
I saw that and noticed it as well but did not think anyone would care, I was wrong! I must admit however that I did not even come close to thinking of "nanotechnology",
very smart "Bio".

Ha, I was right...
From the Weyland Industries Timeline.
"Weyland Reverses Global Warming
Using a precursor to the atmospheric processor of his own invention, Peter Weyland is able to generate a localized synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap, effectively ending global warming.
