MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 3:54 PMI have read some minor possible script leaks (only after having a high suspicion of it being fake) and the plot seems a lot more interesting than a large amount of stuff Hollywood is churning out whether it be a reboot, remake or something based on a board game. I mean, come.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 4:33 PMThis is nothing new...
Remember when Vader says in the script for The Empire Strikes Back "I killed your father"?
Or what about Blue Harvest for that matter?
How about that Batman movie titled "Intimidation Game"?

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 10:48 AMPrometheus will very likely rely on a lot of "idea" driven stuff, which is rare in sci-fi nowadays. Most sci-fi films made today are usually straightforward action films without any of the actual "sci" part. A lot of writers and directors have lost the art of crafting atmosphere and suspense through dialogue and set-up. Prometheus will probably have a lot of scenes of people investigating things and researching stuff and discussing the science behind it before it gets to the alien beings and such, which a lot of modern movies just don't want to take risks with. It's safer to just have the movie be about lasers and explosions and monsters right from the get go without having to really "set it up." In my opinion, good sci-fi is a very demanding art form and it's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Prometheus is that you just don't see that kind of film too often anymore.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 11:21 AMI don't have a lot of faith in a world-viewership that made the 2 most successful movies of all time:
1. Avatard
2. Titanic
While I did find the following to be entertaining:
The robotic motions of the 3D shipmates during the XLS's in 2. and the over-the-top VFX in 1... Prometheus will need a solid, deep, and thought-provoking story to capture an audience that is already saturated (and frankly spoiled) by outrageous special effects and insipid stories.
I'm also worried about the release of other fantasy/adventure/sci-fi films before the release of Prometheus, like John Carter, Clash of the Titans, The Immortals (on DVD), etc... overwhelming said public and watering down it's reception.
Bottom line... no one ever sets out to make a bad film (well, maybe Corman). It's just factors like the extremely rare convergence of the planets that allows it to happen right. It is a rare thing indeed.
