MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 9:59 PMI'm pretty pessimistic when it comes to films these days... well at least scifi and most definitely horror.... but I just have a feeling this one is going to deliver.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 10:17 PMGeez @20thcenturybuick....way to be a downer...but seriously, back off. There's nothing wrong with trying to pump people up.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 10:35 PMSome of the worst scifi movies made are still watchable, if they have good effects. Outlandish ideas, so long as they aren't TOO weird, are still enjoyable. Remember Star Wars, or Transformers? Some good films, some bad.
Hate to bring it up, but as bad as AVP was- it was still fun to watch. Stupid as hell, but fun.
Most scifi movies have either a good story, or spectacular effects. Almost never do they have both. I hope Mr. Scott delivers on this the way he did in Alien. But, if the movie sucks at least the eye candy will be there. If it answers a few questions from Alien, and poses a few more I will be happy with that.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 10:39 PMI'm 43 and I'm acting like a little kid about this film. My wife is getting tired of me visiting this site as well as checking out the current trailer. She's not going with me to see it by the way. I was very adamant about going with someone that was a fan of the first Alien, and yes I have been telling everyone I think might be interested in this movie. I even was looking forward for the first time in my life to actually camping in line to get tickets.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 10:59 PMIf anything, just inform people at this point that it has something to do with Alien. Other than that, we really don't know much else.
It's still a little early to become an evangelist for this movie.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:13 PMMy wife isn't going either Cinefan. She talks through every movie, which drives me nuts. I love her dearly, but my movie time is MINE!

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:31 PMAwesome @aintnozeno! About becoming an evangelist for the movie @xenotron, I'm just excited about it. True we don't know if it's actually going to be good because it's not out yet, same can be said for The Dark Knight Rises or The Avengers that doesn't keep people from talking about them. If anything I think they have more going for them than Prometheus does due to being higher profile films. The ONLY buzz for Prometheus is coming from fans of Alien and Ridley Scott.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:33 PMCypher, I'm not getting "arm rest clenching" scary movie vibe from this... not like the original Alien. Seems more like an epic scifi adventure... for sure with tense moments... but I don't think this is a horror scifi. Anyone else?

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:38 PMWell, I guess I'll see you on the street corner with your sandwich board and your soap box, Cinefan.
As far as I'm concerned, 20th Century Fox is a big boy; it can take care of itself. If they want to market this film correctly, they'll start tying it with Alien somehow and advertise that it has something to do with Alien. If not, well, it's their bed; they can lay in it.
Here's a tip for when you're out preaching the good news: When people ask me about it (usually, I first have to mention that I want to see it) I just tell them that it has something to do with Alien and that beyond that, I'm really not too sure myself. That usually does it for them.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:38 PMDon't be fooled mogy79.......Ridley himself has referred to this as horror. And from everything I've consumed over these many months.....I have no doubt that sci-fi/horror is where we are going in 'Prometheus'.

Cinefan
MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:39 PMIt is a horror/scifi, it's just not breaking ground like Alien did in 79'. People are numb to violence and horror in movies and it takes going out of the box to break ground. Like it or not the last type of movie to do that is the "found footage" movie, particularly films like Paranormal Activity.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:43 PMTrue cinefan.........but let's not forget that sci-fi/horror as a subgenre has, in general, become somewhat a lost art, as though action is too tempting to keep at bay in the making of truly visceral science fiction. My hope is that this film takes a generation of moviegoers, mostly adolescents in man suits, to school on the matter....it's just a hope, but it's all I've got.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:45 PMI keep imagining it will be more in the vein of a four hour epic like Lawrence of Arabia. I keep hearing Prometheus compared to Lawrence of Arabia so it's hard to imagine that it will be anything but a good movie when you consider that Lawrence is the third movie on the British Film Institutes list of the 100 greatest British films ever made. Plus it's an Alien movie. Sort of. Even if it's not that great I know I'll probably still like it, I'll just like it like I like David Lynch's Dune. It's Dune so I like it, but at the same time it is not a good or a bad movie.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 12:18 AMProbably won't know the length and rating til about 1-2 weeks before its released.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 3:59 AM@Cinefan true, people are numb to violence and horror these days but i'm hoping that prometheus is more than that, it is the delivery is what makes the movie great. Ridley has gift for doing that in his movies. hopefully Ridley still has that ability to pull you into the movie build up tension and drama then scare the crap out of you

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 8:48 AMThe only people willing to listen to me about this movie are my male friends. None of my female friends are sci-fi fans. They watch 'Army wives' for the love of god. They're really missing out! I believe this movie is going to build up tension and most definitely scare the pants off of us. And I look forward to every bloody minute of it! I only want to go with an Alien fan as well, and that's what I'm doing. Otherwise, it just kills the experience. Much like going to see one of your favorite bands with a friend who doesn't like them and they just turn the experience into pure crap. Not allowing that to happen with this!

Cinefan
MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 8:48 AM@royal-jelly I agree. I just think Prometheus would have difficulty being as groundbreaking a film as I remember Alien being. No doubt Scott is fully capable of making an epic film.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 8:54 AM@irishandroid1 ya, this isn't gonna be much of a chick flick. My wife doesn't like chick flicks thankfully. She can't stop talking about MIB3 and The Avengers, she's just not into Scifi or horror although she did like The Thing.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 9:53 AM@Cinefan....sounds like your wife and I would get along. Apparently we're a rarity.
