MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:10 PMThe spacejocky looks tiny compared to the original one in alien (youtube the scene) also the original jocky seemed to have a spine run down from its face all the way down to its stomach, the live one seems to have a short snout?

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:12 PMI would guess that's where the airhose would connect once the ship takes flight (?)

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:14 PMThat's what I saw - the original Alien showed the SJ as huge, dwarfing the humans. But in the trailers, the SJ appears to be the same size or just slightly larger then the humans. I'm wondering if this is just an oversight, or if the suit the SJ wears is enormous? Or are they able to alter their size?

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:23 PMYeah its probably some kind of life support system but it just seems like a bit of a short cut ( hey guys how will we explain the giant alien looking thing?....lets just say it was a massive space suit!) The ribs from the original were all burst outward but now we're led to believe the ribs are some kind of harness (seatbelt) so I'm guessing once the jocky realizes the prometheus is about to crash into his ship he tears at the ribcage like harness to free himself?

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:31 PMIn Alien we see a fossilized suit, better to say DEAD suit. These are biomechanical things so they live and died like an organism. This is why in Alien we see a Bone Structured Suit. The same is for the interior of the derelict.
The "spine" is obviously a air conduit so we will see it later.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:36 PMMaybe there are many different species of hominid who have, at one point or another, become "Space Jockeys", and the one we see in ALIEN just started out as a particularly large creature? (I mean, there's nothing suggesting that the suit wouldn't "adapt" to the size of the wearer - plus it seems to be hinted at that the "pilot" we ultimately see may actually be a member of the Prometheus crew who has undergone some sort of "transformation"...). In short, I think this is going to end up being a bit more complicated than what could be surmised from just a few glimpses of things in the trailers.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:43 PMComparing the profile of the new SJ and the "old" SJ from Alien, there is a BIG size discrepency that can't be overlooked. I will have serious issues with this if the size difference isn't explained. So far new SJ is looking pretty small and even smaller in the chair. Even the head shape is quite different. Notice the major differences in the chair shape as well. This will have to be explained because I can't see spending all this money for such a large "error". Personally, I think the SJ in the chair will grow or morph into the size we are accostomed to.
Any thoughts?

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:47 PMThis is very simple to explain.... someone smaller is wearing the suit in the latest trailers... The free standing suits behind Shaw (previously released photos) are obviously more proportionate to the 'Space Jockey' in 'Alien' than the shot we see in the trailer.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:48 PMthere are a lot of differences, size, texture, the eyes are different, and the seat looks different.......... not bad necessarily but just a modern update............ i approve. i think this is a good pic of it :)

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:49 PMOkay MAZ, sounds good.
I'm really having issues with the wait. Too hot around the collar. Just can't wait...any...l o n g e r.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:59 PMNice comparison picture invaderzim42.
The differences are quite dramatic. If the larger SJ was of a larger creature not seen yet, then okay. But if large SJ is the small dude with small suit, well, that just ain't gunna work! There has to be a missing element or explanation for this dramatic discrepancy. This won't sit well with me otherwise. That bulbous head, elongated body and bloated chair, I'm sure there's an explanation! Has to be!!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:00 PMWell Giger is working with them again on this film, so maybe it was his decision to update the look. It was his creation after all. Maybe the story they created required the creature to be something more than a "big alien truck driver." Maybe there is no explanation. We will just have to wait and see.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:05 PMi am going to make a new topic about it, but since we are on the subject of comparison look at the space goo stuff from trailer 1 and trailer 2. guessing it was a digital edit but to be honest i liked the transparent green better. MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:05 PMMaybe the guy about to fly off isn't a Space Jockey, but an infected crew-member?

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:08 PMregardless of the outcome ive got to say i dont like the idea of a bio mechanical ship as it would suggest it has conscience an the sj isnt really in control unless he's in some way telepathicly integrated with it? I do however think that the newborn humanoid (veiny dude) "king" at the begining of the trailer is David!

Galaxy Dave
MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:11 PMTrue SteeVtheRipper.
However, check out and compare the pattern of the back part of SJ's chair in both old and new. You'll notice the new small design has patterns to it that if the chair were to grow larger like a balloon, the chair patterns could resemble the old chair. And look at the top of the new chair where the shape behind the head is more retracted than the old chair. This means that there will be shape-shifting.
I have a feeling the SJ and chair will grow when the ship becomes active. Could be a side effect from the exotic power source.

Galaxy Dave
MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:17 PMOf course! I think this might be it:
Small blue dude engages with chair and the suit eventually comes off, as seen in the trailer.
At some point a giant infected creature engages the chair and becomes large SJ!
This could be it folks!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:24 PMYeah I think you nailed it, David becomes Alien SpaceJocky, id be happy with that.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:37 PMThe trunk-like appendage probably connects to the ribcage structure when the SJ finishes blending in with the chair, but what we saw in "Alien" isn't just an overblown seat-belt, that's for sure. I think it will be left up to audience interpretation whether or not the ship is technically "alive," however, the alternative I prefer to imagine, is that the ship's array of sensors and SJ pilot's nervous system....or whatever- become fully integrated once the plugging-in process is complete.
I don't think the figure standing over Rapace at the end of the trailer is an SJ........not a real one, anyway. On the other hand, if it turns out that the SJ biotech is intended to evolve a human or synthetic into an SJ, that would dovetail perfectly with the idea that Prometheus is Scott's dark take on 2001's "God was an astronaut" shtick.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:42 PMSo much talk of size differences, but I have yet to see an engineer or SJ next to a human for comparison... The engineer in the very first trailer looks big enough to ride the chair like a mini-bike.
There is a figure in front of Shaw while she is on the floor, and he has a black suit on BUT his face is not visible. Seems more likely that it is Halloway, in whatever mutated form he has taken.

dtrisml
MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 8:39 PMI think it's highly unlikely that the 'space jockey" we see in Prometheus will be the same *exact* one from ALIEN (given that it's already pretty obvious that the alien ship in Prometheus is destroyed shortly after take off). I think what we're going to see in this film is essentially some background into the culture and technology (and attendant horrors) of the "Engineers" and their various legacies.

DJAB
MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 8:53 PMIt possible there are 2 ships, also prometheus seem smaller in size and we don't see the entire ship destroyed, just the initial impact. Your probably right about this movie not focusing too much on the events of Alien but id like to see a nod to the Alien SJ post credits maybe.

MemberFacehuggerMar-20-2012 9:41 PMDavid might reroute the Engineer navigation to LV-426 since the location of that planetoid is known to the weyland company. It could also take 40 ish years to get there. When the company discovers this information they reroute the Nostromo. Speclative food for thought.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 10:16 PMHere's what I'm talking about... http://db.tt/TdvvzBve ... It's obvious that the original 'alien' space jockey scale is honored in 'prometheus'... We're just jumping the gun on announcing that there's an alien being in there.... This ship we see in 'prometheus' and 'alien' is probably dictated by the biomechanical suit to pilot the ship, enabling the pilot to have sensory control over the craft, rather than our human analog controls we have in our technology. So if a crew member of the prometheus insists on commandeering the alien craft, it's probably mandatory that they wear "space jockey" gear.... Make sense?
