I am not positive, but from watching the trailer i get the feel that this is how it works. first the star map turns on, now in the new trailer we actually see them holding the earth, showing that this hologram is indeed part solid. next you would literally pluck your location off the map and plug it into the auto pilot (that green glowing hatch on the floor) then the map turns off and the seat rises out of the floor. i only have one shred of evidence for this, but its a really strong one.
