Close to it... considering the original was for a different movie. Compare the side profile of the temple in the distance when the Prometheus' bay door opens to Giger's Dune designs in his collection. Looks pretty close! the head on top is the giveaway!

There was supposed to be a Temple in the original Alien........

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

Yes, but that temple was supposedly designed by Dan O'Bannon if I remember correctly. There were urn designs that never were used to, in the actual script or something. A lot of ideas were not used due to budget and time restraints for Alien. The resmeblence of this one in Prometheus to Giger's Dune IV and V is uncanny. IMO

Yep, is this design...

it was made for the failed DUNE project from the 70s that was going to be directed by Jodorowsky... It was used in a Japanese TV ad from the 80s.
This was going to be an armed and armored mobile fortress/palace/landship used by the villains of the book, the Harkoonen.

I agree. This movie having H.R. Giger's work along with Ridley Scott directing, producing, and coordinating everything makes this possibly the best sci-fi/horror movie in decades. Expanding on Giger's original(pricey) concepts such as the pyramid thirty years later is ultimately the best thing for this franchise. I feel it's already a success and the movie is still months away. Yes, Cameron's Aliens was epic and badass, but Giger/Scott put this Xeno's place in the universe on some untouchable, freaky, beyond scary level.. Very hard to explain but I hope no punches were pulled, and I hope there is more to come after this film.

YES indeed! The first time I saw this was WAY back in an issue of Starlog magazine. Giger's fantastic concept for Baron Harkonnen's castle. That would have been a great film.
