That would explain why they are humanoids. The other possible explanation, of course, is that we are their creation. I find both explanations uninteresting, but think one of those, likely the later, will be the movie main story line.

Something like that would need to be explained as to how and why it happens to be even remotely believable-and I hope they don't even try with it.

What if the Space Jockeys are physical manifestations of a digital dimension? What if the Space Jockeys are really a colony of symbiotic nanites bound together in a human form? What if the Space Jockeys are ambassadors or shepherds for some alien god? What if... What if... what if...

What if large blue guys are avatars that the prometheus crew use to communicate/assimilate with space jockey race just to butter them up while the "company" harvest the valuable minnerals from their planet. But then the Avatars become emotionally connected to this alien race and their culture and then turn on their own kind. ...

...but I'm sure no studio would put up millions of $ for such a stupid premise, unless they had a well known director, and maybe throw in some time travel(ha)+PG13 +3 Friken-D = money maker.

When the Prometheus crew find the derelict it has living Sj's in it (so it seems from the trailers), but when the nostromo finds it (being generous, say, 100 years later), one of the Sj's has fossilised. I'm not a SPACEOLOGIST, but that seems a little quick. Are there a few thousand years missing in the timeline?

this is the most puzzling question I have Derp. We see a fresh space jockey, and ship operating, but it doesn't look like the same ship and jokey we are familiar with, but it looks like it might be the same planet because of ringed planet in back ground and Weyland time line for LV-426, but it looks very different from landscape we've come to know from Alien & Aliens, so... we throw in some Avatars and time travel, maybe some sick martial arts action and you have a hit.

The difference in landscape that seems to bother so many of you can be explained by the terraforming process. Obviously, by the time Nostromo lands, whatever terraforming technology was being used has long since shut down. Again, I believe we are going to see more than one "derelict" ship, and possibly more than one alien race. This just happens to be how the space jockeys roll. And they do it whenever they are visited by a race that is advanced enough to take over their technology.

Why would they have Aliens on board the ship?
