SJs: fallen parasitical gods :)

Imagine that the SJs for some reason have only limited amount of time to exist. (The king has his reign and then he dies). In order to survive they need fresh genetic material and resources. For this purpose they place this genetic material in form of humans on earth (and maybe other planets as well) and leave messages and a map to one of their outposts making us think it's an invitation. Once we reach technological level sufficient to fly to the specified location we do so only to understand it's a trap. The SJs in the temple are already dead but some of the Prometheus crew members get infected and mutate into something (the mohawk guy) which somehow helps to revive SJs on board the derelict. Now when the derelict has pilots it can fly to Earth and use human race to resurrect SJs (we were so wrong).
What do you think?

I like it , read my post about warning signs, i am with you on it is a trap though. Nice thinking there. A dying race needing a host, very possible for sure.

The distress signal in Alien could be a trap. Knowing that he/she would never make it to EArth, the Space Jockey sends out a signal hoping to attract any human vessels in the region. Bodies for all those eggs.

The Space Jockeys themselves being parasitic? I never thought about that, but it's possible they could be like that. o_o
Whoever they are, some of the recent footage (trailers, TV spots) seem to show that the Space Jockeys aren't too civil toward our human explorers. I still recall a theory someone posted here that we humans were originally created to be sex slaves for them. So maybe they see us and they think "Oh, sexy time," and have their way with us, especially as shown with Shaw and possibly Vickers, because to them we're only good for sex. xD

@Apollo
Yes I actually came up with this after reading your post. I totally agree that it doesn't make sense to kill humans just because they got angry. SJs need really strong motivation to cause all that chaos.

But if they are so parasitic in nature, surely they would just take over the earth rather than wait thousands of years for us to send a small spacecraft with only about 10 crew members.

Somebody said perhaps they got angry because we got so advanced.........which doesnt hold water because:
A. They are still far more advanced than us
B. Why leave maps to MAKE us reach for the stars if they didnt want us to become so advanced.
C. We could never get as advanced as them because its like a 10 year old trying to catch up with a 50 year old in terms of life experience.

@Mark Cawley
Maybe cause it's much more fun to terrorize poor 10 crew members in a riddley-gigger style first :)

So we seed other worlds, wait for them to attain enough of a technological maturity to perhaps someday reach us and then use our visitors for reproductive purposes? Why? Given their level of technological sophistication (especially genetics and space travel) there is no reason why their reproductive goals could not be achieved in a more local fashion. And let's say that for whatever reason they *do* need fresh genetic material- why not just send out unmanned, clandestine probes to all those worlds you previously seeded to determine their developmental status? Better than waiting around eons, especially if you are "reproductively challenged" and extinction is a very real threat. It's not like they are locked down to that rock, either- after all, the Jockey ship was heading for Earth for some sinister reason (we assume).
I think any theory attempting to decipher the Jockey's motivations should always keep the mythology of the original Prometheus in mind. I think all hell breaks loose because they felt threatened. Maybe they saw that we weren't too far from them from a technological perspective: A.I., robotics, FTL space travel, etc.- the "king" can potentially become subjugated. The TED speech comes to mind, the Company- maybe they get wind of Prometheus' true purpose and decide to take action.
If the trap theory *is* true, then we need to understand what we could offer them. From a scientific point of view, maybe the Jockeys only value distinctiveness. We are bound to develop distinctive cultural, biological and technological qualities which would not emerge if a species is constantly living under the shadow of another (superior) species. This may be how they make evolutionary jumps. Kind of reminds me of the Borg, only instead of traveling the galaxy looking for fresh meat, the prey conveniently lands in the cage.

The Prometheus myth, particularly 'Prometheus Bound,' seems to hold a lot of clues and parallels to this movie. As well as different versions of the Pandora myth; concerning Urns, or jars, and the means, or spark of life.

its quite possible the SJ's wanted to deliver a "gift" whether its an ability or knowledge, maybe both.
Maybe they overestimated humans as a species and their capabilities. Our eagerness towards advancing ourselves and our limitless egos might've spawned this gift given by the sj's into something sinister. Further resulting into chaos, confusion, fear and death among the crewmember.
Our inability to utilize this gift properly results in the enragement of the "gods" (aka space jockeys)

I also had some of the ideas you had about the scene of the SJ near Water Fall and UFO, and that "a King has his reign" the guy looked like he was not doing well.
Which means that scene was maybe based before our Time on Earth?
But then not so sure about them needing us to make them healthy, as if the Space Jockey are a dying race who create us to use in future for some scheme that allows them to live, then
1) Why wait for us to go to them, when they could vistit us abduct a number of us every now and again.
2) Why would they want to Destroy us if they need us?
Either a set of SJ had been naughty and used the Special Stuff to create Mankind in their Image, with out the aproval of the other SJs. In doing so stealing the Fire of Creation without the majority of the other Jockeys/Titans permission.
Or they became suprised we found them, and found out that we either.
1) Plan to steal that secret and take it home to Earth.
2) Our Medaling on their planet as let a cat out of the bag that could cost their future and thus its pay back.
Bit like a kid finding the matches and burning your house down, so you decide you need to punish his parents by Bulldozing theirs.

My opinions line up with the parasitic theory i posted this as pure speculation. they need new hosts.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

We have some good ideas backed with some pretty fly evidence behind them, check it out here also.
