MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 1:14 PMI think the SJ's are symbiotic. The black goo we keep seeing is them. They assimilate to a host and mutate them into a more traditional physical being in order to do things that require physical activity. Perhaps their previous hosts became incapacitated for whatever reason and they've been laying dormant, waiting for a new host to finish their work on that planet. This could also, make them immortal and able to absorb anything the host knows.... like the location of EARTH where there's plenty of hosts.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 1:32 PMi feel its too similar to invasion of the bodysnatchers IMHO, but it sounds reasonable
Its a robot...ash is a goddamn robot!

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 1:42 PMSimilar. yes... far fetched? absolutely not. I challenge you to watch the trailers keeping in mind the symbiote/ mutated host idea and I guarantee you'll see some interesting things that strengthen my theory.... remember "big things have small beginnings"

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 1:52 PMIts almost Species isnt it........dang, even more Giger stuff.

aka Nate
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 2:21 PMSort of like 'Species' but the creature in that flick was human engineered by broadcast instructions from an 'Alien' species.... My thoughts are that the SJs 'symbiotes' can do this naturally. It is how they take a physical form. It's how they create biotech, fly ships, and even defend itself. But ultimately they are a gooey black substances that carries memories, intelligence, etc.... and by that idea, there really isn't a ' Space Jockey' race, but creatures assimilated and mutated by a symbiotic parasite.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 2:29 PMMaybe everything in the urns are actually the Space Jockey Race in the form of organic matter. Maybe all of the Space Jockeys that we see in the trailer are actually the human crew that have been infected and mutated.
Then, that is why Shaw says that there won't be a home to go back to. If everyone becomes infected and mutated by this life form, we end up losing our humanity.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 3:04 PMYou folks are closer than you think. The thing about this movie is, how the drama will unfold with a few visual surprises here and there.
Here's to June 8th!

ZetaReticuli
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 3:19 PMAlso, that's a superb and radical idea. Submicroscopic sentient things in slime
with genetic memory. I'd like to see things go this way with the film.

ZetaReticuli...ever here of midiclorians? Midi-chlorians were intelligent microscopic life forms that lived symbiotically inside the cells of all living things. (care of Wookiepedia)
George Lucas just had to explain the force...didn't he?

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 6:21 PMIf the humans are the space jockeys, then I'm going to be disappointed. I was hoping to run into another alien life form. And that idea of a human being somehow being mutated into another being (through impregnation or whatever) has already been used.
It's obvious the crew get infected, which is fine. And if they mutate or whatever, fine as well. But if they end up becoming the space jockeys? Thumbs down.
This whole concept is starting to feel overused like the xenomorphs. Sounds too formula driven like the star wars prequels.

MemberDeaconMar-30-2012 6:54 PMGood idea and concept and their are many, and thats what you gotta love about this movie and maybe clever work by Ridley in what is shown in the Trailers.
As it leaves many many posibilties that we can just keep guessing and guessing and when we think we got it sussed someone else throws another idea that makes sence.
This Movie is not easy to read, and that means its potentially going to be very exciting to find out for sure whats happened. Roll on 8th June ;)
On the Slime note though....
Why the need for those Large Helmets and Space suits for the Jockeys? Do infected humans grow in size?

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 6:58 PMTake for instance the shot where David is looking at the top of one of the 'urns' and there's these little creatures moving on top. Take note of their appearance. Those could be them.
Also, what about the quote at the end of the trailer when David says "Big things have small beginnings". He's admiring something on the tip of his finger...something too small to see at that angle for us. David is probably bare handing the symbiote because he's synthetic and not effected.
@want-to-see-prometheusNOW!, don't think of it in terms of that humans are the SJs... Humans in these particular events are the SJs (possibly). It can be anything biological that can be converted from symbiotic effect of the parasites. Maybe even Jones the cat. The symbiote just need any biological host....perhaps one of a certain size, but eh, who really knows?

aka Nate
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 7:12 PM@BigDave, I'm pretty sure the host does grow in size. I'm pretty much basing this on the image of the fiery 'infected' crew member who throws another member of the crew in the trailer. In the version of the trailer where they've touched him up with some Visual Effects, he can clearly be seen with elongated arms and legs, thus mutating.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 7:42 PMLiking the sound of some of this ... apart form the SJs being human ...
@Corey ...
Yeah like SJ's own equivalent of Noahs Ark :) ...
Nate...
@Yeah watching the trailer for the first time I was hoping it was gonna be something small you can't see ... i.e those little things dancing on top of the Ampules ...
On later trailers when they changed the colour of the sacks (to black) and saw David pulling them out of some cynlinder, I thought haha Xeno in organism form ... hence why the Xeno's are black in colour ... also the bioluminecense clear goo (on the gloves) is the slime from the Xeno ... you notice the clear goo is alive too? ... particles are moving within the fingered goo ...
Hope we see the host for the Alien Xeno ... love to know what is WAS before it got taken over ...

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 9:12 PMRemember, this movie isn't gonna spell everything out for you when it comes to the connection to the other 'Alien' movie(s). As fan boys, we'll be playing connect the dots with all the tie-ins that aren't gonna be obvious to a generation that isn't as familiar with the older films. Nothing, is gonna be a direct tie-in with 'Alien'....and if it is, it'll be purposeful and not tacked on just for the sake of tying the knot between the films. Trust me when i tell you that this movie might just pull the rug from under you and completely force you to change your perspective on what you think you know about the 'Alien' franchise universe and at the same time sticking to it's own canon in the most stubborn way. I for one, welcome it and frankly, i'd be disappointed if they didn't throw a curve ball in the 'Alien' universe to revive a franchise that you all know really really REALLY needs it.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 9:42 PMBlack goo = primordial soup = what science believes we all came from = black veins crawling up the arms and legs of bald guy by waterfall and guy in helmet and Shaw tripping down the hallway...
Hmmm....

aka Nate
MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 10:01 PMI don't necessarily believe the black goo is a "primordial" thing, but quite the opposite actually..... I think they're so advanced they assimilate to existing biology and alter (mutate) it to something more physical for themselves.
