Does anyone know what happened to the original Space Jockey set piece after filming was complete?
Something happened to it. No googling, want to know if somebody remembers.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 10:23 AMI know it was used for the premiers. I dont think Bob Burns has it. Although he has pretty much everything lol including the original head of the alien.
Perhaps 20th Century Fox has it. Or perhaps it was destrooooooooooooooyed lol.
I dont know but i intend to jolly well find out lol.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 10:31 AMNice try, but wrong answer. I still remember what happened because it made the news.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 10:53 AMBurned to a crisp I think! could be wrong but remember seeing some docu on it and one of the camera crew from the original Alien saying that it got accidentally set on fire at a premiere.

We have a winner. I don't know the details, but yes it burned. They didn't know how it happened at the time and suspected it might have been vandals. According to IMDB it was a lit cigarette left on it.
Congratulations you win a two tickets to the world premiere of The Three Stooges (thought I was gonna say Prometheus huh?) just kidding, I have NO juice, but awesome somebody remembers!

Feel all chuffed I won, lol,
Think the docu might have been on the 'Alien' disc 2 extra's on the quadrilogy set.
Gutted it's gone, would have made a cool display somewhere.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 11:19 AMYou know the main things I remember about Alien are begging my dad to take me with him to see it (I was 10) he didn't and the news story about the prop burning. Lol

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 11:26 AMThe thing that got burned was just a mock-up of the actual set piece, it says so in the alien anthology special features disc. Also, it was burned down by a religous zealot who claimed that "it was the work of the devil"

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 11:39 AM@muthr I would beg to differ on your facts. I will look further into it, but I'm pretty certain you're wrong.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 11:56 AMNot a mock-up, the actual set piece. Some sources state a lit cigarette others say on purpose by a vandal. Burned just before it was going to be on display for a Los Angeles premiere.

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 7:22 PMI remember reading about that when it happened. I remember the article said it was a smaller scale model of the set piece. About half the size.
I'm pretty sure that story is correct.
