MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 9:37 PMThis may be a silly one, but so be it. In Alien, Dallas sits in the lifeboat listening to Mozart's Eine Klein Nachtmusik. I was just wondering what artists you thought the rest of The Nostromo crew listened to when they had a moment to themselves, in the genres of Classical, Rock, Jazz, Pop and country
Here in order of rank is my opinion:
Dallas: Mozart (a given), Pink Floyd and Ween, Miles Davis (his "cool" period), probably not a pop kind of guy, more singer songwriter like some Paul Simon or Joe Jackson, Townes Van Zandt
Kane: Chopin, Joy Division, John Coltrane, Eliot Smith, Neil Young's country stuff
Ripley: Beethoven, definitely Beethoven (the most heroic), The Beatles (but has a private crush on The White Stripes), Billie Holliday, never listened to pop, too girlie and she would have hated giving that impression but deep down she loved to go out Friday Nights and dance to Madonna, Lyle Lovett
Lambert: Hates classical music, prefers Toby Keith, Van Halen, what the hell is jazz?, Prince, Shania Twain
Ash: Bach. Nothing but Bach. Nothing else is as pure, as perfect. Its mathematical skill matched only by its virtuosic invention. All else is drivel.
Parker: Purports to hate classical but every once in awhile steals some Mozart from Dallas, Parliament, Miles Davis (fusion period), Stevie Wonder, f*** that redneck crap
Brett: Good natured, has a thing for Haydn and Vivaldi's Four Seasons, The Allman Brothers, Jazz? Whatever Parker likes, anything Motown, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson
EDIT: Brett was a huge Dead-head as a teen

Thanks. Topics like these may be a little shocking but sometimes ya gotta push the envelope.

MemberFacehuggerMar-31-2012 9:57 PMThe most interesting thing about the characters in Alien is that there is nothing that interesting about them. I never thought much about who they were and where they came from... Except Ash. He was the most complex character in the film.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMar-31-2012 10:05 PMNot that interesting? As opposed to what? The Godfather? OK. As opposed to Halloween? Or Dawn of the Dead? Or 98% of horror movies? lol.

MemberFacehuggerMar-31-2012 10:15 PMI thought the characterizations and acting were brilliantly done. They perfectly portrayed a crew of working class stiffs thrust into a situation they have no business in. The perfection of their portrayal caused me to only be interested in their present rather than their past.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Giger made the cover for the LP: Brain Salad Surgery from Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP). Music from my time.

ELP: Emerson, Lake and Palmer was a 70's prog-rock band. One of the best.
"Brain Salad Surgery" was IMO their best album... Cover art by?...
Wait for it...
A little known artist...
H.R. Giger.
