Ok I know lots of despise Alien 3 and admittedly has huge continuity error, but lets go back and examine the movie and hopefully find new place in your hearts. -Lets forget the problems this movie had in development and stick to what we see on screen.- I guess the first thing people moan about is "where did that alien egg come?" This to me seems like a pointless argument the story demanded an alien, heck its the title but what I find its best to think there's two eggs. (I know it sucks but that how its gotta be) The other egg could not be revealed as it would spoil the surprise later when we find that Ripley is impregnated. The fire is a big problem for some, "how did fire take down a battleship?" I guess we have to go with what Bishop says "it was under the sub-flooring" were there are no sprinklers lol Next is the death of Newt and hicks, I admit it would have been nice to keep them alive but I can't see how. I remember reading somewhere that Ripley was going to sent to prison for the destruction of the colony but then I find it hard to believe that an alien could some-how find its way to the same prison. (that kinda harder to believe then eggs on the Sulaco... "of all of the prisons in all of the universe you had to find mine!") Saving Newt and Hicks in the crash would bring about to much of a shift in the storyline, it would become more about keeping Newt save from the inmates (no-one wants to see that) and with Hicks their we would lose the relationship between Ripley and Clemens. The autopsy, I once watched this with my girlfriend (at the time) and she said "oh this scene is awful, can we skip it?" but my thoughts are, that it is a great scene because it shows just how strong of a character Ripley is..... no-one wants to watch some-one being cut up, especially some-one we know and care about. The tears she sheds shows that she's not a heartless cow but some-one willing to do anything to stop these 'things'. Ripley and Clemens. Some people think that after fighting off hordes of aliens in the last movie and the death of Hicks she wouldn't be 'up for it' or that she used sex as a distraction from Clemen's questions. Is it so hard to believe that maybe she did like Clemens and that's why she didn't tell him anything about the alien? Maybe she just wanted to forget the whole thing and from her point of view there's no evidence that their is an alien among them..... and is that not what we do when we care about some-one, shield them? Even when she does go and see Superintendent Andrews and tells him all she knows she still doesn't tell Clemens...... Why?... I feel it has more to do with her finally feeling like a woman again and not a survivor. Telling Clemens would change her back into being that survivor of something terrible, forever changing the peace she woefully craved for now found in the arms of Clemens. <-smooth Anywayz I've been up all-night, feeling very sleepy now. I'll write more later......

I refuse. Saw it in the theatre, almost walked out. I can clearly remember my dissapointment. Never looked back at that flick, and don't mention nr. 4.

Well she hadnt had sex for nearly 100 years.....perhaps she was desparate lol. I keep watching all the Alien movies anyway. I probably watch all 4 once a year. But then i watch all the AVPs aswell. Yeah i know the AVPs tell there own stories......but at the end of the day so is Prometheus isnt it...... I mean, how many of us hoped that the Space Jockey was a real creature rather than what appears to be just a suit........im still hoping that they turn into a real elephantine creature but it now looks unlikely. Anyway....i hope you got an answer lol. I love ALL the Alien universe, because they have the Alien in them.

I dont get what u mean, its clear I think . mostly is shown in the beginning.. - the egg was brought on board, Bishop confirms this ´it was there from the beginning´ or similar. - the sub-flooring fire broke out due to the alien acid, this was shown on Ripleys damaged sleeping capsule -the death of hicks and news is for plot dramatism, fits very nicely to the dark charakter of Alien3 the autopsy, too..

yeah the eggs is an issue...it proves that none of this was thought out properly and episode 3 was crudely pasted on in an attempt to make more money aliens continues from alien...alien 3 does not continue from aliens the pacing of the film is too damn slow, it is also incredibly depressing...definitely my least favourite, even more so than 4

Although i wonder where the acid came from........yes i know from the facehugger....but do the facehuggers spit acid now? Or did it cut itself deliberatley which i dont think so because they seem more programmed than inteligent.

You know, there's so much negative publicity about Alien 3 but I honestly think everybody's exaggerating. From the first time I watched it (without knowing about the bad scrutiny) I really enjoyed it. I watched the 'assembly cut' not long ago and I thought it was the proper version that should have been in theatres. If you havent seen the Assembly Cut and you didn't like Alien 3, the assembly cut completely changes the plot and plot devices and delves deep into the characters that were killed off relatively quickly in the theatrical version. It's a slow burning film brooding a nihilistic atmosphere that I think reflects Ripley's character (a burnt out, weary warrior). The characters are very real and very distinct. I loved the cast and the relationships that develop naturally. I honestly couldn't find much bad to criticize the film on except for the shameless destruction of Hicks and Newt. Ripley understands she's destined to be stalked by her nemesis forever and goes out with a bang. It would have been best to stop the series here as I will agree I couldn't find much to like with Resurrection (I dont really consider it part of the series, more like fan fiction).

Overall I felt Alien 3 was done pretty well. The situation was interestingand the performances were pretty good. alien 4 is the least worthy of the four IMO, but it's still entertaining even if a little gross at times, like with ripley's alien child. I quite enjoyed it the first time I saw it in the theater.

@Kane77 so please explain how the eggs got there? Sulaco, no eggs The entire crew gets stranded on LV-426, no round trips, everyone is stuck there They come back with Alien Queen, did she have time to stash two eggs? When Bishop flew away due to unstable platform...did he plant them?

the company knows everything what happend on the ship. it goes into the computer and back to them.. it was with us all the way says bishop, when asked by ripley in alien 3. Burke gave Bishop clear instructions to save it and return it to company. But after Ripley asked Bishop about this, he changed his strategy, he tried to infect Ripley and Newt, as we know. But as he dies and gets cocooned, the question is, when he did it, when did he place it there? somebody at youtube says read the book Aliens and the beginning of Alien 3, both written by Arch Stranton. He explains pretty well, how the Queen got two eggs on the Sulaco.

I thought it was underrated and then I watched it again. I just didnt like the direction they chose to take it and wish they had taken it a different way. I never had nightmares about Aliens until the third.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

I love Alien 3 too. Although it was pretty much an ode to Ridley's work in Alien, and I personally didn't think that film needed an ode, but I love the fact it went back to what Alien was all about (an unstoppable creature (Ripley fired a plasma engine at it and whether or not it's alive, it was still in one piece.) Not bullets ripping them apart left, right and center). I was very excited when it was released, then disappointed then when the (unbutchered) further cut was release excited all over again. That's why Fincher never talks about it, because it was decided to remove the middle of his film and thus ruin it, I would love to see that man approach the subject again, That film was truly uncomfortable as Alien should make you feel. You have a completely hostile environment, filled with male prisoners you wouldn't trust with your dinner money, a good sense of how far the company will go to get their hands on the Alien. A great speech and a glorious final"run" where all in a forgotten about prison decide that they're lives are pretty much worthless so stand up and kick out against both the company an the Alien.

@ the coming For Alien films: Depressing-good. Carla's husband from Cheers-bad I think the autopsy works . . . this is horror people!!!! However, I think, just as Ripley was a character people grew to love, Newt (not me but most) and Hicks (gotta keep him!) were characters people grew to love. So killing them off at the very beginning of Alien 3 kind of sucks, However having cute little Newt ripped to shreds halfway through when we just know the little kid has to survive would have been brilliant!!!

As bad as most people hate Alien3, it's still better than 95% of the garbage coming out of Hollywood. I own a copy, still watch it on the occasion. I still like watching the Alien explode, being covered in molten lead ( and surviving ) and then being doused by the sprinkler system. What a mess! Charles Dutton gave a great performance too. Not a timeless classic, but still part of the Alien Legacy.

Wow I'm shocked at my own bad spelling.... soz, I had been up all-night Its nice to see not everyone hates Alien 3, Myself and a friend argue about it.... we also argue about the terminator. He likes the 2nd movie but I reckon the first movie is a complete story and the second movie was only made because the fans demanded it, which spoils the validity of the first movie. _anyway Alien 3. Wasn't it Brian Glover's final movie?

First up, I am not one of the people who is super esoteric about the franchise. Alien is undoubtedly my favorite because of the great atmosphere, tense scenario and special effects that still amaze me when I watch it today (and that feel superior to the other parts for some reason). Aliens - I liked the relationship side of it, but not much more. To me, the whole action scenario with hordes of Aliens and guns and all-American soldiers and the whole 80es vibe to it - it just doesnt work for me, because it lacks all that I loved about the first one. Now, Alien 3 - and this is where I have an advantage, because I dont really care for an airtight storyline - brings back the claustrophobic feeling, weird, uncomfortable characters and through Fincher's great style and attention to detail the overall vibe I see fit for this Alien universe. The butchered version definitly was a mistake, but the 2h special edition version is great to me. The whole middle part when the alien is captured and released features great tense, weird, "NO DONT DO IT!" moments that contribute a lot. Alien 3 is my 2nd favorite next to Alien. For me, Aliens is okay if you dont like to be scared but prefer non-stop action, but not much more than that... (Alien 4 just doesnt work for me at all. Everything is too mainstreamy and the cast just does not work AT ALL.. Some great scene, e.g. all the Ripley clones gone wrong in the lab, or the underwhater stuff. The design of the Alien Baby thingy in the end just sucks so bad that I cant even watch that stuff - what were they thinking..? Guess thats what you end up with when you piss off Giger...) So in the spirit of this thread I can only say - go watch A3 Special Edition Director's cut (hope that is correct..) and tell me thats not a tense, scary movie...
