Giger's Dream
MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 6:00 PMNot sure if any one has referrenced this site called "The Geneous of the Derelict" ship...some great insite;
http://ioannis.virtualcomposer2000.com/writing/Derelict.html
I was struck by this part under #10 concerning the egg chamber;
" In the book, a plethora of what looks like worm or polyps-like life forms are found dead on the floor, near the eggs. They appear to be either dead facehuggers (the nymph stage of the xenomorph) or external life forms which the eggs failed to infect (Fig 12a)."
could this be a direct tie in to the worm like creatures we see in Prometheus??

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 6:10 PMI have the soft cover version of that book. It's a must have for all of you Giger. Amazing art and text. Greatly educational in the process of art direction.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 6:53 PMI have had a similar private theory that the ship is not only bio-mechanical in nature, but is alive itself. And its resemblance to a spider has not been lost on me...

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 6:56 PMI was looking at the photo's on that site and sat here for a moment. It never dawned on me before strangely enough. If you look along the ribs on the walls of the chamber there are openings on each one that could have extruded the eggs. Though there is no gantry and crane mechanism visible of course. Quite a fall for something so fragile unless something we aren't seeing exists. The point is, what if the Mala'kak ship being biomechanic made those eggs. For decades fans have wondered how they got there, where the xenomorph is etc. Just another thing that Prometheus will answer for all of us, I for one can't wait!!

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 7:50 PMThe SJ ship connects to a larger ship that grows, changes, detaches, and attaches parts as they orbit and search throughout the universe for places to grow/merge life.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 8:14 PMAlien, Pro focuses on one area of the universe that includes Earth where obviously something did not go as planned, although expectations to a plan may be want is ultimately desired. Standard operating procedure looks like sounding a warning beacon for others to avoid and for maybe a bigger boss to stop by and deal with the exception (another movie) created.

How does ths ship look like a spider? As far as I can see it looks like a wishbone.

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 7:56 AMThe Derelict is actually modeled on the idea of a FEMALE form. Look up Giger's art print "hieroglyphics".
Also, for those REALLY paying attention, the original 79 Derelict is NOT the same ship depicted in Prometheus.. Whether that is just down to artisitic changes from the art director?? who knows.
