MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 2:44 AMi just finished watching extras on alien directors cut special edition,3 hours of fantastic behind the scenes stuff.the only thing is the more i watched the more i got to thinking how prometheus could end up as a load of contrived codswallop.i mean lets face it,ridley didnt write alien,he was just fetched in to direct it.at the end of the disc ridley says he would return to the alien universe to film the backstory of the "space jockey"but only with a great script.i just cant see this as "the one" i mean idris elba saying"prometheus has landed"pleeeease.anyway back to my question,why has ridley decided to keep the name of the company as camerons weyland instead of his weylan.is this the untie-in with alien that he keeps harping on about?i hope to god im wrong but this movie could end up being a travesty.on a lighter note,has anyone else noticed how the SJ cocpit set bears striking similarities with the british who wants to be a millionaire set,i could just imagine chris tarrant sat in his chair.

The THING got messed up didnt it? I mean in the John Carpenter THING we see home movie footage of the Norwegians planting thermite charges. But the prequel showed the ship in a cavern still right up to when it powers down after the explosion.....still with the cavern cieling in place.
Plus by then theres nobody left to plant the charges like we see in the original.

Ridley had for more creative input in Alien than you apparently think he did, yes he did not write the script but he changed it and made it his and had the vision to make it what it became

MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 5:09 AMRidley Scott IS alien ... the story was good but with an average director it could be another forgettable movie ( just like almost all others O'bannon scripts ..for example totall recall now is almost unwatchable ).
Was Ridley Scott to find Giger , to find the actorts , to give all the style to the movie ...the script alone was no more than 30% of the movie .

yeah I agree script is like 30%, the directors vision takes the biggest slice of the cake

As a director, who directs things, the movie would have been much different visually, emotionally and rhythmically had it been someone else. And let's face it, apart from the Weyland plan, or Ash's hidden nature, Alien's story isn't the thing that makes the movie great.

MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 6:52 PMbecause wayland sounds better (and it does) and because thats what everyone knows it as, and because waylan is never really in the first movie anyway is it? they never say it and if you see it, its like a micrometer on there shoulders........ so if they started calling him waylan it would just confuse people who are fans but not die-hards who theorize on here like us lol :D
