MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 3:07 PMThere appears to be some very intelligent people on this forum so I thought I'd I see if anybody out there could please help me with my gif dilemma. I'm running a new laptop with windows 7, it used to play gif animations in windows pic viewer but lately it only shows a still picture. I've tried searching the internet about this but all I can find is a lot of comments saying that I cant view gifs in the viewer and should just open them in my internet browser or download an independent viewer. They used to work just fine and I'd prefer if I could fix the problem than start using other programs etc....anybody got any ideas????
Thanks for your time

MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 3:39 PMWhat youve heard is right. You need to open the picture in either an internet browser or an independent viewer. As far as I know, windows 7 has no way of viewing GIFs like older versions. Completely sucks.
Windows 7 has REALLY disappointed me actually. You cant manually arrange your folders any more, and the new Microsoft Paint sucks big time...luckily I was able to install the old version of Microsoft Paint though.
Come to think of it, it might be possible to download the old pic viewer?

MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 3:45 PMThanks, I'll try looking for the older version. What hurts my head is it used to play the gifs just fine then last week it stopped, maybe it was a windows update that spoilt things. Im not too sure about windows 7 myself either

MemberOvomorphApr-03-2012 5:11 PMHmmm...Ive had Windows 7 since it released almost, and Ive never been able to view GIFs like I could in older versions of windows. I cant understand how you were able to view them last week! I might look into it.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 7:37 AMWindows 7 uses Internet Explorer to open GIFs by default (Photo Viewer won't play animated ones).
To restore this setting:
Right-click on any GIF file, choose Open With and then click on Choose default program. Select Internet Explorer from the recommended programs list and click OK.
