MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 4:27 AMI am sorry to have bitched out like that, but this kind of topic is just so over done. I would not be suprised if the staff lock it because it is like the 10,000,000,000 one that has been posted about the same dangthing.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 11:27 AMAlien 3 was re-written by Hill and Giler who re-wrote the original Alien script. I don't see how that can't be considered canon with them involved.
Alien Resurrection could be considered non-canon but I consider it canon since Weaver is in it. Plus, I have always enjoyed that movie.
That said, the Alien movies have always been made by different people each installment (except for 3). If you don't consider part 3 or 4 canon, then you really have no grounds to consider Aliens as canon.
IMO, more installments of your favorite movies are always a good thing, even if it sucks because it allows you to revisit a universe you care about once more and creates discussion while keeping the original movies relevant.

Didn't RS have them ruled as non canon recently and Fox agreed?
I seem to recall reading that somewhere

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 9:51 AMwow if that' the case could someone be so kind as to please post any proof of it 'cause i would need to know/confirm if that's in fact true. Tx in advance.

MemberTrilobiteApr-12-2012 9:55 AM@ TNLV426 - I don't think so. Alien 3, despite its production problems is a fitting end for the character of Ripley, Alien Rez on the other hand is a somewhat ironic look inwards at the franchise while breathing new life into an old, tired franchise.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 10:31 AMI think on the opposite, that RS considers the other 3 alien movies as canon. But anyway, I don't see what would be the problem at having 3 and 4 as canon.
Alien 3 matches the dark mood of the series, and as Snork says, it portraits a fitting end for Ripley. As shocking as it is, I prefer its tragic tones than the cheesy and predictable happy ending of Aliens (mind, Aliens is not my favourite movie only because Alien is).
A:R happens centuries later, and as ridiculous as it could be (I like Snork's take, "ironic"), it doesn't really do any harm to the preceding movies, being some sort of sophisticated fan fiction, in a far future. I hate many things in A:R, and consider it far inferior to the other movies, but it is still somewhat enjoyable (IMO, ofc).
I don't consider canon anything else (books, comics, videogames, AVP).
A bit just like George Lucas (forgive me for my unfortunate comparison!!!), who doesn't consider Star Wars canon anything that isn't the story of Anakin and Luke skywalker.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.
