MemberTrilobiteApr-09-2012 8:33 AMIt is my belief that the Alien, AVP and Predator movies need to be re-released onto DVD/Blu-Ray as Final Editions. And that these Final Editions should be claimed as not only the definitive versions of the film, but also as Canon.
Each movie would be released with three discs, with the only difference between the formats being the picture and/or sound quality...
Disc 1
This disc would feature the Theatrical Release, Directors Cut/Special Edition and Uncut Edition (all deleted/alternate scenes included), as well as separate viewings of the deleted/alternate scenes. All versions of the film would come with their own commentary tracks in light of the Final Edition.
Disc 2
This disc would feature the Final Edition of the movie. The Final Edition would differ from the other versions of the film because of the cuts/additions made for the following reasons...
1. Narrative Structure - Cuts/Additions to make the narrative more effective.
2. Pacing - Cuts/Additions to increase/decrease the pace where necessary.
3. Continuity - Cuts/Additions to segue the film with its predecessors/successors.
4. SFX - Cuts/Additions to improve the SFX shots to a set standard.
Disc 3
this disc would contain all the stills, documentaries, interviews, features and behind the scenes footage, including new footage regarding the new Final Edition of the film.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 9:35 AMDoesn't the new Aliens/ AVP/Predator Mega Pack do that Snorky?
or are all the bonus films just the old original copies?

MemberTrilobiteApr-09-2012 9:57 AMThe megapack, to the best of my knowledge is just a collection of all the films in one set as far as I know.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 10:04 AMI felt that the Quadrilogy did a pretty solid job at that concept but I understand what you are saying. After re-watching Alien Resurrection, being disappointed by the Ripley-wannabe acting in AVP1, and despising AVPR... I don't think a new box set is needed... HOWEVER...
It would AWESOME if they did your concept on an INDIVIDUAL level. So that I could pickup the definitive versions of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and eventually Prometheus.
The first Predator was solid. I'll pass on everything after that. AVP has failed to add anything substantial to the canon. It COULD have been a great leap forward in the story, but instead we just got to see two monsters duke it out with way too many closeups.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 10:11 AMGreat idea!! I agree with flac. AVP should be it's own thing or Predator canon. I would buy Alien thru Alien 3. Predator and Predators. Prometheus too, once it's released. Want a Weyland Yutani database feature with all technical information available.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 10:14 AMI think they better to wait Prometheus ...the movie will help to round up everything better ( so everything will be released with a definitive "flavour" )... can give also a more comprehensive look at what is "canon" and what is not ...a strong Prometheus success can cut off some parts of the franchise from what is considered "canon"

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 10:31 AMi disagree...... we already have the alien anthology, i am very happy with it and until a new format comes out, its perfect..... and also if its theatrical its cannon, deleted scenes may or may not be depending on what they are because some were removed because they were bad, others were removed because they had to shorten the movie (this happened mostly with aliens lol)... also alien, avp, and predator are 3 different cannons.

-Round of applause-
I couldn't agree more; well said.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 10:01 PMAre you talking about all of those films as specifically Alien canon? If so I strongly disagree. The AVP series is trash as far as the story goes, so it should not be canon. For Predators specifically, they haven't been successfully linked to Alien (in movies) so it should be considered seperate until properly linked. IMO.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 10:42 PMI think it is unlikely that AVP is transformed in canon, but at the same time as the Predators would explain why they found the cut Xenomorphs as head of the Space Jockey.

Well if this mural depicting a Xenomorph, then that would indicate that these monsters are older than we think. But IMHO only of course.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 2:42 AMYes, the AVP, Predators and Aliens Vs Predators vs Donkey Kong should all be released. it's time we finally get these stories straight. Can't wait for the Prometheus Dig Dug video game!

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 2:46 AMRidley Scott, in his Q&A session, made reference only to the Alien movies, and since the authors have said that they have tried to respect the canon as much as possible, I suspect (much to my enjoyment) that they don't consider AVP as canon.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.
