MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 3:25 PMI have wachted an read a lot of interviews with Ridley Scott lately and I found two statements always repeatet: 1. "I am a designer", 2. "I am not really an SF-enthusiast". Plus I had to familiarize myself with his narrative style for a scientific paper I had to write. My conclusion: He doesn't understand the hysteria. He might not care so much for the details as we do. He has to do a movie that 50% satisfy the Alien-Fans and 50% win a new audience.
RS might not care of things established in Alien. The space-jockey "grown out of a chair", a lifeform "pure in it's hostilitiy", and all that. He might ignore all that in order to make a "modern" movie which has to compete with Transformers or Avatar. To make it "accessible" for younger audiences, like it was done with the SW-prequels.
Although I understand RS' need to produce blockbusters and to compete with Cameron and such he better not sell out Alien. He is my only hope, if he dissappoints, I won't believe in traditional filmmakers anymore. If Prometheus fails, I'll spend my money on Crowdfunding.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 3:42 PM I do agree that RS is indeed having to compete in a new way as JJ ABRAMS did with Star Trek in reinvisiging is own universe as had been said "It is not a Prequel" therefore a new monster will exist, one of devastating capabilities and using biology as the weapon. Whether he leaves us in suspense or deprived of our originality in following the ALIEN universe will depend on our Judgement of what he brings to the screen.
To PROMETHEUS: "May your mission be successful and bountiful"!

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 3:45 PMone thing is for sure IMO, the focus here is going to be on all the different agendas of each of the crew members and characters inter-relationships are going to play a major role in this and I think Ridley insisted it be that way. he wouldn't do this until the right story was developed and in the end he himself co-developed it.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 4:07 PMit's gonna be a slow but very interesting developer.....not a full out action adventure....kinda psychologically disturbing and intense I think with some action and horror sequences thrown in for good measure...I am also almost imagining some very heartbreaking plot developments....it's gonna be sad in places i think...or it might depend at how u look at the story in that regard....meaning the sadness....but one thing i am certain of....it's gonna be truly EPIC!.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 4:11 PMHope you're right, Juxtapose! I really like what Scott said about the different agendas among the crew. I hope the characters are developed more fully than they were in "Alien," so that when they buy the farm, we actually care.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 4:11 PMvery well said Juxtapose I agree completely accept I think the action sequences are going to be so freaking out of this world people are going to "PLUTZ" as we say over here. tell ya another thing, my Jaw is still hanging out of my mouth after watching the 2nd TV spot in Eurpeon on the internet and the International as well as the North American Full HD Trailers.

I saw the 2nd tv spot....still prefer the 3rd...purely because of that DIEEEEEE! bit at the end....lol...unless u referring to another new tvspot trailer.....post a link!......it's funny cause i don't just enjoy sci-fi movies....u know one of my all time favorites is "Fried Green Tomatoes"....such a tear jerker....and when it comes to horror....the first grudge had me sleeping with my lights on for 2 weeks....pathetic...I know!.....but i am hoping that Prometheus kinda envokes many different emotions....that it is not just one thing...the type of movie that does not only appeal to sci fi -fans..

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 4:44 PM...oh shit no i just read threw my post again....and what i said sounds like a crowd pleaser....not another Avatar (even tho i enjoyed that movie).....I almost just want it to succeed as an independent arty type of sci-fi....if Alien came out now....thats how it would be viewed....i think?

Look Svankmajer is a good traditional film-maker, and he still does great films.
So Don't loose faith.
By the word "traditional", you mean people like RS, Speilberg and Lucas?

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 6:12 PMI will give credit to Ridley,Spaihts and Lindelof-I do not know if they knew each other before this project, but to have 3 film-makers from different backgrounds put ego aside and collaborate on a concept, film and ultimately Art project shows great humility and respect for each other. Throw in the suits at Fox and it says to me the production team and all those involved believe and are striving for something larger than pride or money.I haven't heard of issues or delays among cast and crew,if true, that tells me everyone on board is on the same page.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 6:19 PMI agree Spartacus..."the focus here is going to be on all the different agendas of each of the crew members and characters inter-relationships are going to play a major role in this and I think Ridley insisted it be that way. he wouldn't do this until the right story was developed and in the end he himself co-developed it."
If you think about it...that was the approach to 'Alien' as well...the unseen corporate agenda augmenting the tension and danger of the present situation....
