Maybe weyland-yutani didnt know the derlict was there till they found ripley in Aliens the second film and she told them thats why they sent newts family to go look for it !

Didn't cameron explain that it had been covered in lava and damaged or something in the intern and that is why the beacon stopped working?

Unless you watch the long cut of ALIENS where the Jordan (Newt's) family visits the derelict as prospectors, it is never referred to in that movie. I've always wondered if nuking the site from orbit took out the derelict or not. Hard to imagine they missed it, or that the Hadley's Hope Colony is just on another part of the planet.

Well, I guess I just wanted to speculate on the timeline that would take a sequel to Prometheus, I do not know, perhaps between Alien and Aliens (although it has been said that would deviate even more from the Alien franchise)

I think the game Aliens Colonial Marines my answer a few questions for us. This should be interesting! The game has been pushed until October because rumors suggest that there will be elements of Prometheus in the game...

Prometheus takes place on a diff planet so maybe Weyland didnt know about this Derelict but did know about the other.

@SeeYouHicks Yes, indeed it is likely that if the game out before Prometheus would reveal some potential spoiler of Prometheus. Undoubtedly be a great game and I hope to include some related Easter eggs Prometheus.

@Xeno-Pwner is a possibility, but it's also quite possible that it is the same planet and it is also possible that something catastrophic happens at the end of Prometheus. You may move from a world terraformed a planet dark and dead. Either way the fact that they are different planets can give us hope for a sequel either to preserve the mystery forever.
