MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 2:30 PMAll these theories running around (especially about THE alien) can i offer a clue.
Honestly i've no idea what the space jockeys role is but i do know this.
The captain of the nostromo (dallas) goes and hunts the alien in the ships vents (we all know that didn't go well), as lambert is screaming that "it's heading straight towards you" Dallas panics drops down a vent and turns into THE alien. Cut scene. The crew demorolizes further and after a ripley ash confrontation abandon ship becomes priority.
Upon leaving (and i can't remember if it's as ripley sets the ships countdown or not) ripley armed with a flamethrower runs to the engine room (i think... i've not read Fosters book or seen the Dir Cut for a while), there she spies a still Alive Dallas.
Dallas is coccooned into the wall (and remember we're talking R.Scotts version not J.Cameron) the coccooning process is killing and altering Dallas, he begs ripley to kill him and she complies before getting outta there.
So with all this chicken, egg, alien, goo, slime theory out there i believe R.Scott is trying to get the original cycle back into play (makes sense for a prequel).
So if anyone has any further theorys on the goo/slime in the trailer, what's in the urns or infection theory's go check out what happens to Dallas.
Nuff said... Opinions?

AdminPraetorianApr-11-2012 2:34 PMI always thought the goo in the other movies was the Aliens saliva or something similar.
Here is the scene: Alien deleted Cocoon Scene

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 2:39 PMI am under the impression that Scott & Co. are not going to invalidate anything from the other Alien movies. This doesn't mean that they're going to explain or suggest that an alien queen might eventually be born, but they will try to tell their own story, with their own life-cycle which could evolve into something else in the future. But it will be something that they won't tell in this movie, nor in any potential sequels. And they won't mention it at all, but for the same reason they won't deny it.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 3:05 PMoh and with the theories casting about over the prometheus myth, here's mine.
Humans are prometheus (the crew of the ship) steal alien (godlike) technology, said theft causes ship to crash (we may even shoot it down!) investigate downed ship further and a punishment (alien or beta alien) is unleashed on us. Simple is sometimes better,
tho as with Scotts first film there is always a lesson to learn i.e. Is Ash worse than, more evil than the alien?? Therefore W.Y. Ash's creators (humans) are inherantly worse, more evil?

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 3:40 PMJust an observaton. The Alien as seen in the original film was an enigma. It didn't rely on a Queen, a hive, or any terrestrial referrances. It was fascinating unearthly, and totally lethal. This is RS"s baby and he's going to try to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. He's more than likely going to handle it with care. We'll just have to wait, and see what comes out of that EGG when the film opens in June.

MemberDeaconApr-11-2012 4:21 PMWell this is where Ridley has to be carefull, because it can be risky if he is going for a movie that can have another sequal but take a different direction with the Xeno.
It would seem some of the orginal Alien Script that never got used, some of Gigers ideas for Dune that never got used. Will be used in this movie, if Ridley also goes for the other deleted idea from Alien and thats the deleted Cacoon Scene then if this could lead to him rebooting the franchise i think it could be a bit of disrespect to the Original one.
OK most ingore that AVP has nowt to do with Alien because, in Alien there then would have been account of the Xenos before Alien.
And yes Alien Resurection was a silly idea.... that made no sence. like how from cells can you clone someone who is then impregnated. My example would be a Peroxide Blond Girl (so Burnette who Bleeches her Hair) If you came across her DNA and cloned her the Clone would not have Blond Hair as thats not part of her Gene Pool.
Aliens was the best movie, its ideas was sound and did everything to make the Xenos what they are known for today.
Ok the idea of the Queen was not around in Alien but it never also sugested that a Queen did not exist.
This Movie in its own Context could be a great one, but then based on Alien i.e SJ teh Derelict and Weyland etc... it could go either way.

MemberDeaconApr-11-2012 4:25 PMAs far as the Goo etc goes.
I think with the Eggs, Urns etc its preserves them and what keeps things alive.
I dont think the Goo Itself when touched has the power to change or infect DNA.
As far as the Alien Xenos i think they secrete a different supstance that they use for Cacoons for its victims.
As far as in those Urns i think they contain what are Proto Eggs, in that a organism is inside them that can evolve into Eggs.
Then again, how do we explain the Small Organism in Holloways eye or the Small one that David says is growing fast.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 5:45 PMThe reasons I think we're getting all this "life cycle/how SJ appears" stuff wrong are:

There are WAAAAYYYY too many eggs in Alien; if the eggs relly on hosts to create themselves, where did all the hosts come from in the first place?

A host to create an egg to take a host to create a xenomorph? Really? No wonder they got that out of the original movie: it makes no sense regardless if you think the xeno is just an animal, or a weapon! Why wouldn't the host just be morphed straight into the xeno?

Do you really think RS would take such obvious routes? I'm not saying he didn't, just hopping...
Plus, I read somewhere that RS said he wasn't very conservative about his movies; he made them and moved on.
So I'm really convinced that he'll take whatever direction he thinks fits, regardless of what is considered canon or not!
Anything, at this point, is plain speculation! But keep it comming guys, love every bit of it :)

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 5:55 PMHey couch, good point with the morphing hosts straight to xeno... But in some trailers there does seem to be some kind of hybrid xeno. (tossing guys around, very sleek alienish body but no tail!?!)

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 6:09 PMYeah Wolf, that's true, and that kind of goes to the point of what I said.
I guess there will be some kind of "morphing", but I'm just hoping RS will have a surprise waiting for us, far beyond the theories that've been posted here!
But anyway, somehow I don't really like the whole "morph to xeno" idea...
To tell the truth, I'd much rather have the Alien as an animal; it kind of made it scarier then being a weapon.
I've said this before in the forum; if the xeno is just nature gone crazy, it could have the xeno evolve right in our back yard, which makes it extra scary (it that is possible, any way)!
Being a weapon takes away some of its magic... but that's just me, I guess!
