I think it's a VERY good idea. However, I think the staff is already working on it.

It is a good idea, and I think that BH is already working on it, so I suspect that this thread might be locked when he finds it.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

this whole site needs to be moved to Vbulletin or something...lacking too many simple forum features like bumping, I hate having to constantly click to the last page etc after posting...good effort tho whoever built it from scratch

it has been mentioned before and I think your right BH is working on it I have seen a few things come up with (Tagged ) on them
BUT I wonder if a simple selection of sections would help more one for the ship , the crew and so on
might be easier to do ?
but what i think would help most is if poeple would title the subjects more discrptivly ?

I dont really mind the repeat posts, its all about being social after all.
Besides, if someone posts an update to a thread that appears on page 4 no one will read it anyway

Guys,
I know the feeling about a site search function this is a really, really, really old request. You guys need to probably spam Bughunters inbox for a search function....but don't tell him I told you to do that :P
LOL,
Rick

I'm with 'the coming' on this one ... Vbulletin is the nuts for forum sites ... I don't think this site has the structure to cope with a similar search function ... shame though ... maybe they didn't expect if to become this big? ... :) ...
My actual post tracking is fine ... but I've pratically given up posting frequently now as I can't track all of my replies to threads, as there's a limit to how much is kept/saved ... this would've been handy to use as a cut/paste to noobs joining in using similar posts ... but it's now so time consuming finding my old posts ... or others for that matter ...
Like 'TheNextLV426' said no-ones gonna read posts 4 pages back (even 1 page) ... it takes an age ... but if a post that was replied to, was thrown to the top of the pile each time that would be a bonus ...
I hope this forum doesn't get too muddled up and miss out on this fantastic hyped up phenomenon ... there won't be another one for a while ;) ...
It is a great forum all round though :) ...

To be honest, I keep seeing people posting new threads without even checking the one or two before that covered what they were bringing up!
So I can't see them bothering to type something into a 'search' function first either...
What I'm looking forward to though, is for threads to 'bump' to the top of the list whenever someone adds a comment onto them. I'm sure myself and others have missed plenty of interesting comments due to the amount of threads disappearing down the list when new threads are added. And yes, I know it's coming eventually.

As Rick said...BugHunter is working on it and guys....please remember...this is one man with a life outside of this site that he has to live in order to eat and keep a roof over his head, let alone spend the enormous amount of time it takes to code this site..
...think about it people....this guy builds this place up from scratch because he obviously cares enough about the subject matter to invest that kind of time and when you go look at his personal page, he almost never posts replies (he's at 280 and he joined on 01/06/11), occasionally posts new threads and he rarely posts status updates because he's taking all his spare time here to work on keeping the site up and running as smoothly as possible, while trying to address these other requests (the long awaited search function among them). Also, he was rather sick with the flu recently and that set him back a bit on things as well....
...Ok, so we're all a bit tired of the duplicate threads and the fact that we have to go searching for originals so much....look, for the most part, we staff are holding back on locking unless it's obvious laziness...just try to search...that's all we ask and accept that we have it pretty good here...thanks

i'm speechless do you people not know how to read??????????????????????????????
seriously do you really not know what the "site news and announcements" section is?????????????????????????????????????????????????

Spartacus....never seen you this pissy, lol. It's all good.
@Craigamore, i totally understand and can't imagine the amount of time it takes to code the "search". i don't mind a bit of searching and reading. If there happens to be a repeat thread, so be it. Deal with it people.

Takes me all of about a few minutes to find something from good ol' fashioned DOING SOMETHING with my brain. And, y'know, using my eyes. I know people don't like doing anything themselves anymore, but it actually keeps your mind sharp to use it guys ;-)
I totally agree with Craigo and Spart on this one.

I just keep a second IE tab with Google ready to go. And I'd like to say thank you to Bug for all that's he's done: I couldn't create all this that I look forward to every day.
