MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 5:33 PMWas watching Dangerous Days documentary earlier today when one of the producers brought up the fact that Warner Bros had the option to cut whatever they wanted from Bladerunner to bring it in under 2 hours and that they cut a lot of the subtleties because they thought most cinema goers wouldn't catch on if they left them in the film.
Now that we sorta know Prometheus is going to come around 2 hours has Ridley succumbed to the same thing again?. I'm inclined to believe yes he has and that after what's been said over the past few days he's definitely on the money train and waiting for the blue ray release to appease the true fans.
On another note anybody else feel that if Lockdown flops at the box office it could severely detract from the huge momentum Prometheus has already built up?
Roll on June.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 5:37 PMi dont mind if the studios cut it, it just means i have pleasure of buying "directors cut", "final cut", "final final cut" and "final final directors cut ....honest"

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 5:39 PMAs many people have stated in another topic, Alien is a few minutes short of 2 hours, too, but it's not a problem. And in the end there could be additional scenes in a future extended version.
Why do you think Lockdown might impact on Prometheus anticipation? Because of Guy Pearce, or the sci-fi genre in general?
That will also depend on the results of Battleshit, I guess (and the comparison here is far scarier to me...).
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberFacehuggerApr-12-2012 5:49 PM@noxword. Was that misspelling intentional? Either way it was hilarious!
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 5:51 PMEh no offense, who cares how long the movie is as long as it's good and the quality is there for the fans. With movies, length is not always better. That's just movies though

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 5:59 PM@alteredstate thats exactly what i was getting at.
@noXWord a bit of both, if it's bad i can see a lot of people staying away. fans of ridley and the alien franchise wont be put off however. i'll not be watching lockdown or battleshit havn't been to the movies in a long time and wont be until june.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 6:26 PMBut why are you so inclined to believe it?
Scott is in a different, Oscar-collecting place, than he was then - and this is a different Studio?
On this ticket, with the ragged state of their big franchise, doesn't 20th need Scott more than he needs them?

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 6:39 PMMMM the studio that gave us avatar i doubt that seeing though its the biggest grossing film of all time.
Also its the studio that wrecked fincher's vision and cameron's intended theatrical cut for aliens, he went through some tough negotiations to get them to stop making cuts that already compromised his vision.

I don't understand, I was discussing the "Alien" franchise, not the "Avatar" franchise. "Avatar", is not in a ragged state.
On your remarks regarding the, "Alien" franchise: exactly?

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 7:45 PMyeah but fox made it and can't be that desperate for a alien franchise success. i had the feeling you were thinking the studio were on their knees financially speaking a misunderstanding i guess .

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 7:45 PMI have to say, as a kid I saw Furn Gully and all of those other ones Avatar gets Rapped for but and here's the thing...
1st of all, Bar None, Graphically that film was BY FAR the best film of that year...and maybe for ten years going back, it was just STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS TO LOOK AT.
2nd of all, the flying Dragon scene was breathtaking, THE ENTIRE SEQUENCE.
3RD OF ALL, the ending of that film was dead bang on the money.
In conclusion, I wish I had made that film, and taken all the heat, I would GLADLY take heat for a film that plays out and looks like that one and laugh my ass off all the way to the bank!
Compared to Most other films AVATAR was a MASTERPIECE IMO !!!

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 7:52 PMThe only reason "Avatar" pisses me off, is the fact that there are soooo many incredible original sci-fi properties just sitting there, waiting for film adaptations......stories that are frankly, just plain better than the highly derivative yarn Cameron whipped up.
Epic and completely original? How about "Ringworld" or "Rendezvous with Rama?"

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 7:55 PMCan you imagine the technology of "Avatar" applied to "Ringworld"?
Damn.....

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 7:56 PMI would love to see promethea made into a film the Alan moore graphic novel.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 10:38 PMI think this movie is so epic...rs is so established as a filmmaker...the script is so awsome...the storyboarding is so advanced...I dont think there will be any unnecessary cuts, i think there will be enticing bits on the dvd that will make us all run to walmart and fight other grown men for our copy

MemberOvomorphApr-13-2012 12:49 AMI'm with Spartacus regarding Avatar. If one is going to rip Cameron a new a^hole for stealing from other stories, then what do we to O-Bano and Scott? Are you telling me Prometheus isn't going to use a bunch of ideas that haven't already been done to death? Alien did and it was still great.
But it would be nice to see some folks like Clarke and Asimov get more screen time. Can you imagine Rama getting made? Probably the greatest anti-climax in SF history! Yeah, there are these super intelligent beings and they don't even care one way or the other about us! I smiled for weeks after finishing that one. The sequels of course ruined it.
And damn it's a shame no one ever did Childhood's End. Truly epic. The closest we'll ever get to that is the cover of Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy.

MemberOvomorphApr-13-2012 12:51 AMAnd speaking of Clarke, does anyone have the original comic book version of 2001?

Brett
MemberOvomorphApr-13-2012 8:52 AMI remember reading something about Morgan Freeman's production company interested in Rama
