Hi all, Just had a look at the following article; http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/weekend/2012/0414/1224314721928.html and thought it raises some valid points, but...
Fox would have sunk a lot of money & thought into this project, Mr Scott would have sunk a lot of thought & his reputation into this project (anyone else remember "Legend"?), The campaign has been predominantly viral and boosted by people like you, me and this website...so in a worst case scenario, Fox can say "...We didn't hype it up, you guys did!". No one wants another "Heavens Gate"*...
"Blade Runner" was a misunderstood film, which has gone on to be regarded as a classic of it's genre. I honestly hope "Prometheus" is a run away success on all levels, but if it ain't, it might be another of Mr Scott's misunderstood classics. *Wikipedia folks, Wikipedia...

To be honest I'm not planning on holding it against scott if this doesn't live up to the hype I'm a lot more concerned about the blade runner sequel, he better get it right and be doing it for the right reasons and not just following this remake/reboot trend we're seeing lately with the likes of total recall, Fright Night etc.

I'm not sure what point you're making? To me, that article, ultimately, speaks without saying a great deal. Meanwhile, I'm very confused by your "buts" - they don't seem to be a substantial argument against the likelihood of the dangers the article addresses coming to pass, even if the assumptions in them are correct - and, in fact, they seem only to express the exact same assumptions that the article is commenting on. All the "money", "thought", "viral", endeavours and good intentions in this World won't help if, at the end of it all, the product is a piece of garbage - if they did, we'd hardly ever see a Picture that stank - yet we do. [Whisper it: "John Carter"]. This article seems to be saying something like: "The more "money", "thought" and "viral" endeavours you expend in supporting the Picture - and the longer you do that for - the surer you'd better be that the story you have is actually worth telling and that you're telling it in a way that will actually engage people, once they are sitting in that darkened room - or it's on your head". Well, I believe most people already understood that - and most Studios do not set out with a big plan on how they are going to lose Millions. That article just seems to be some negative, patronizing and really lazy copy.
