Make it all about Weyland...

I'm betting large the mythology that RS says they are creating for this universe centers around Weyland - what he is, who he is, how he knows what he knows, and subsequently explain the secret decisions of the WY corporation in years to come (how do they know about the derelict but didn't know exactly where it was, why terraform LV 426, who's in control of WY and still so obsessed with this region of space 80 odd years after the events in this film, and long after PW has died). For me it all starts and ends with Weyland in the canon - he is the link between Earth and this region of space, he has engineered the mission, and he has ultimately created the chain of events that occur after this movie ends whilst his corporation is still deeply involved many years later There is a strong relationship between the engineers and PW that Im sure will form the basis of the narrative for this film. You don't spend this amount of money or return to a franchise solely to explain the existence of the SJ or why aliens lay eggs to keep the nerds happy. This franchise has the potential for far greater objectives and intellectual capital than that for the viewers

I really hope not ... Alien was a great movie and was all about the horrors of the unknown ... i really dont care about the company , yutani , and all that geeks things ... Alien was a sci fi horror with a subplot regarding the company, and for that it did works . I m a bit bored of all that people interested in all that geek things of weyland and yutani , when they did merge ..the secret agenda ... the hidden company plots ... when peter weyland did the first shit ....WHO CARES !!!! i want to be scared with the unknown alien's horrors , there are already enough stupid companies in the world to carry them in the space too !!

I'm not saying that the story about Weyland is mutually exclusive about astory about the engineers, I'm guessing the are inextricably linked. Neither do I think it means we don't get a horror up there with Alien (I couldn't care less what genre or rating we get as long as its RS back to epic form) AvP fanboys would probably disagree - lets just have SJvA, or HvSJ, or even better AvHvSJvP!!! I'm trying to avoid those discussions all over the imdb boards

"Centres around Weyland"? Are you actually serious? Based on what we know, I don't think this can be a very good bet, at all. For years, Ridley Scott has talk about the Space Jockey, complained that it was a missed opportunity in the franchise, wondered aloud about what the purpose of that ship could possibly have been and trailed off in speculation at the wider Universe it came from - the thing has been nudging at the back of his brain for 3 decades; now, when he has the opportunity to revisit it, he's going to, "centre around Weyland" and his Company - who I'd be surprised if he's mentioned more than once, since he made Alien? I think not. Weyland has to be, (and it should be apparent that all the things you mention, are, actually), sub-plot: not the Story.

Yep. Definitely don't want it about Weyland. BUT in any other Alien-based movie by RS, Weyland will definitely be a part of it. He will be the common factor to all the stories. There was an image that someone posted of a character that looked a hellofalot like Weyland (in the trailer). I wonder if Weyland made himself a part of the crew for this little "outing". I mean, he thinks he's a god...why not go find the real ones? Someone his pompous-ass can relate to?

Maybe I'm being misunderstood. The story of the SJ and Weyland will be two sides of the same coin in my opinion, not sub plot at all but a means to tell a far bigger story about the dawn of man. We will understand the role PW, what he knows, why he is there, how David (and I'm guessing Vickers) play a part - Peter Weyland is in the middle of it all whether you like it or not Look at the clues so far, a subtle TED talk that talks about the mythology that clearly this film is exploring, no mention of in trailers even though we know he's aboard the ship, and most damning of all the Weyland timeline where it lists a series of ridiculously advanced patents and achievements which leads me to believe he's either in league with the engineers, is one and has been abandoned to return, or has stolen from the engineers somehow. They can travel at FTL for chrissakes because of Weyland, androids exist because of Weyland.....whether you like it or not, Weyland is going to be central to the story of Prometheus and not in a dull way, this guy must have some history with the engineers, and his arrival is going to unleash mayhem that everyone gets caught up in now, and later Speculation obviously, let's find out, but to ignore Weyland as subplot grossly underestimates the clues so far in my opinion

Weyland may not be the core of the story but if you read my post from earlier, this morning, he's driving the entire story along, his money, his inventions, his corporation, ultimately his push to get that ship out there. It's a kind of focus that would get our petty differences settled and put us on track as a species. Don't want to end up at the same destination and circumstances though.
