Its Really Simple Ridley

+1. This is the essence of this "prequel", and I'm sure that RS has the intention of explaining this. If not, then these forums will turn from hope to anger. What bothers me is that there are already talks of a sequel to this film. Not good at all. I would like to think that this is the film that answers questions that the dedicated sci-fi fans have had in their head for 30 years+. If Prometheus is a one-off that explains the origins of the Xeno and Space Jockey, whilst keeping us all in suspense before the end then all well and good. A perfect opportunity to keep the legacy of the Alien storyline intact and sealed once and for all without spoiling or diluting it. Any talk of a sequel smells of AVP, etc. This should be a one-off film that hits the mark. i.e. an eventual CULT FILM like others he has directed. Those which leave an impact and live in the memory for a long time. Just like the original Alien. Don't spoil it, Sir Ridley!

Whether you understand it or not, those questions, or the film philosophy of leaving those questions unanswered, is very significant to the success of Alien. If all that Prometheus accomplishes, is a direct answer to your curiosity, the film will deny itself of its own potential. In other words, time to let go and understand that the essence of Alien, is the [i]alien[/i]. Not sure why that is so lost on many fans of the film. Scott isn't going to completely destroy that aspect of his prior film. He will direct your imagination with ambiguity, and undoubtedly leave you with further questions--that you will again obsess over in this same way.

Why do I get the impression everyone wants a linear prequel and a movie full of this kind of s**t (see below):? Well we dont know what the score is with Fox/Ridley maybe Fox asked him to make the movie with potential for sequels as thats more cash for the cash cow, as long as they dont milk it. Maybe in order for Ridley to get the budget he wanted, he had to change the story so it could open up to a potential sequel. Ridley did say the project orginally was a direct sequel, and thus would link to Alien. Maybe this orginal draft never had anything to do with Gods or Prometheus legend etc. I think he changed the orginal plot to acount for a potential spin off that would then concentrate on other matters in this movie and to part with the Alien Franchise as thats already been covered in Alien 1-4 We will see that these Gods/Blue Guys/Space Jockeys use Bio Mechanical Technology, and they may use a Bio Forming and Teraforming Technologies to make a planet suitable for life and then seed it. The movie will tell of how the Xeno draws its routes from this Bio Forming Technology, is they Xeno created by them on purpose, or created as a method to wipe out Mankind after we do something to upset them i.e steal their Technology? Or is the Xeno created by the crews tampering with the Technology or by some accident thats caused through our presence of because of something the crew or indeed David does. I have a hunch that the Space Jockeys set out with the canisters containing what ever mutated a few crew members down to Earth. And that the Xeno is created by some intervention by David, be that the Shaw Squid Baby, a transformed David or something that David tampers with that puts a spanner in the works as far as the Jockeys Plans. Because a lot of explaining would have to be done as to how the Eggs got on board, and relation to the Urns/Canisters. And surely the Space Jockeys would not be so silly as to take the Cargo without protection messures. Something would have had to had gone wrong, either someone tampered with something on board the Derelict. Or some Organism or Persons (David) has got on board without the Jockey having any knowledge.

As i said before, i think Ridley is going to fill in the gaps as to where the Xeno came from. There is a good chance that the Xeno came around from one of the following. 1) Created at the end of the movie by the Jockey to unleash on Earth. 2) Already created by the Jockey but stored away to be unleashed on Earth. The above two would sugest that any sequel would not be able to escape the Xeno Franchise. 3) The Xeno is created by accident, from the interference of mankind. This could be... a) A new Organism is created by us, or mutation. b) The Xeno is created by somehow the Space Jockey getting infected, (the crew use the Technology against the SJ). c) David somehow Evolves into the Proto Xeno. d) The Shaw Squid Hyrbid becomes the Proto Xeno. The above would explain the Xeno, but would allow a sequel to concentrate on either the Jockey (maybe not as they could all be wiped out?). Or the other posibilities that could arise from the finding and experiements with the SJ Teraforming and Bioforming Technolgies. Either way the Xeno would most like become from what ever is either kept in those Urns or indeed the Organisms that attack the crew and Mutate them. And thus the Xeno could be a chain of events that creates them. A undesired mutation, hybrid created by chance.

Basically the Bioformer could be likened to say... Vermouth..... The wine. What we had in Aliens was a Vodka Martini, which is created by using Vemouth and Vodka. some of the other Organisms we could see could be different drinks you make from either the Vodka or Vermouth. We could see the Vodka Martini at the end or how if came to be. But then as that explored in other 4 movies about Vodka Martinis. The movie would be open for a sequel to explore.... normal Martini (Vermouth and Gin) or different kinds of Vermouth. What i am saying is that the Organisms/Parasite/Bioforming in this movie could be what causes Mutant Humans, maybe it creates Jockeys, maybe it creates the Worms. We will see a link that maybe this Substance/Organism some how Bioforms and changes David to something or even that the Shaw Baby is what leads to the Xeno. But then Ridley can do another movie that explores other uses for the Bioformer/Organism. Or maybe the Squidy Baby does not become the Proto Xeno, if so and its a new kind of Organism a Seqeul could explore what happens to that Squid Baby? Or what happens to David, or what does the company do next, or what happens to the Temples the other Urns etc etc.

I have a theory that the Bio Former/Organisms i.e Worms change its hosts DNA, mutates them... But if it changes a Fully developed Human DNA into a Mutant. What happens if the DNA/Organism changing Bio Former etc, gets to infect and start to genetically alter a Human Embryo in its first stage? There would be less Human genetic code developed at that stage to rewrite to Alien genetic code. That means we get a more pure Hyrbid/Organism and hence the Squid Baby that Shaw has... A Early Human Embryo is not different to many other creatures. [img]http://9e.devbio.com/images/ch23/Richardson1.gif[/img] I think that Shaw and some Alien Organism are what makes the Squid Baby in maybe the embaracing and shocking scene (because the C-Section is not Embaracing and hardly as shocking as the Chest Burster). Remember they said this movie is how the Mother met the Farther... Now maybe this Squid Baby is not enough to make the Xeno, maybe the first Xeno is created when this Squidy thing manages to some how infect some other organism, my bet the Space Jockey but how... my bet David.

Telling people what the essence of Alien is is not really right. it's in the eye of the beholder. In essence Alien is a B-movie greater than the sum of its parts. 10 little indians in space. Thats from Ridley in the commentary btw. To me the essence of the film was always horror. Meting something alien and murderous and you had nowhere to run. To me the premise(s) of prometheus far exceed that of the original film, but are based on the context(s) which some very creative people added to O'Bannons work. What is there to be said of the culture of the Xenos? But the Engineers, to me, are far more interesting. Not all of us give a monkey about whether there is one or none Xenos in this, i'd be happy if we just saw how they come into being and leave it at that, they're no longer scary in the slightest.
