To be honest, I am really looking forward to and holding out to read The Prometheus Vault !
But if there is one I want to read now it would be One Stephen King wrote about being able to go back in Time and Change what happened that day to Kennedy !!!

FREEZE!April 18, 2012
@snapper, if you're going to read dune, i suggest reading dune:butlerian jihad first. It's explains a lot of what happens in that universe heading up to dune.

While we're on the subject of DUNE..... the covers of the 80's reprint all linked up. I was wondering if the 1st ed. also did? (I only have one first edition.)

Check out the Spiderworld series, by Colin Wilson. I quite enjoyed them.

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

Reality Dysfunction by Peter Hamilton is a great read.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

spacejockApril 18, 2012
Arthur C Clarke - Rendezvous with Rama. In case u havent read it yet, must read. But only the first and original one in the series, the ones that came after get pretty lame.

Dave_bApril 18, 2012
I read "Rama" when I was a kid and loved it....very cinematic! Always thought it would have made a great "2001" style space epic.
TokyokidApril 19, 2012
I read some Gregg Bear recently that I liked. There is a two part book called The Forge of God and Anvil of Stars. The first book is just a warm up for the next book.
Still, Bear is an acquired taste, and I spit out his City of Angels.
Darth KineticApril 19, 2012
wtf is The Prometheus Vault???
and I second Starship Troopers, the OG novel so bears the retarded movie
snapperApril 19, 2012
some interesting suggestions there
is the book starship troopers much different from the film storyline wise as sometimes does happen ?
the spiderworld and the gregg bear books sound like contenders
keep them coming
But Reality Dysfunction is winning at the moment !

Pratchett/Gaiman - Good Omens (how is this not a movie yet?!?) - very funny, completely out there.
If you want to be fully immersed in a whole new universe written by an acceptional talent (whos non sci fi work is just as good if not better) you cant look much further than Iain M Banks' 'Culture' series - immense - and probably too epic for film makers to even contemplate.

Just ordered Schismatrix (plus) by Bruce Sterling. Given that I'm a huge cyberpunk fan, I'm almost embarrassed that this is my first by the author. There are a lot of interesting parallels to many theories for Prometheus, so I figure it's a great time to read this. Anyone on this board should check it out.
snapperApril 19, 2012
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I cant find it any where
as a book yes butb as an audio book no !
so no reality disfunction for me then !
Lee WilsonApril 20, 2012
Have you read the Rendezvous with Rama series? I really liked them. Well the later books not so much, but still a good read.

fishkettlebananaApril 20, 2012
read the
Forever war by joe haldeman
it is heavily plagiarised by cameron for aliens and avatar
it has been the no 1 sci fi book since 1974 in book shops
ridley scott has just finished aquiring the rights to it after a 25year bid
the book is stone cold amazing and never lets go of you from page 1
I like the military feel of grunts in lightspeed travel and the deadly teachings of a battlescared marine of new recruits on an ice cold planet beyond pluto
ps the sequel books to it were complete rubbish
example the first matrix vs matrix 2 and 3

As far as audiobooks go, i can recommend Clarkes' 3001. Get over the old guy reading it and listen. You wont be dissapointed.
Also Doug Naylors Red Dwarf Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and Better than Life. Chris Barrie excels himself with his impressions of the characters.
