Agree totally, Frantz! I think anyone who enjoys the "Alien" series, and is into Prometheus, would definitely enjoy it if it has not yet been seen...

I agree with franz - although i would call the last act a lot worse than "confused".
the whole "burnt guy" sequence was needless because they were in a dramatic enough situation as it was.
And another sci-fi film with terrible casting - all these scientits types in their 20s and 30s - ITS NOT REALISTIC!!

FrantzApril 18, 2012
it is a great movie ( im checking and its 12 minutes shorter thatn prometheus ) ... and an excellent soundtrack . Second part is a bit confused , great ending ( the jump sequence and his soundtrack is exceptional )
artyohApril 18, 2012
i would agree, except for that one character/plot-device. The way it was written, it just seemed to me, like an out of place distraction from the other, more important themes in the movie.

I really liked Sunshine as well but the last act really threw me and was so unnecessary that I wasn't sure if I wanted to like it. Soundtrack was great and casting was a bit young but good actors. I think Danny Boyle saw Event Horizon and 2001 too many times and wanted to mash them. :0) Didn't feel any Alien vibe in it though

xFTx i agree is not realistic even if they had some "charisma" ...kaneda was a great character and cillian murphy was effcient as always ...the doctor was an excellent character ...they were too young anyway .
The religious aspect of all could have inserted without the burnt guy arrival or played in a different way .
to who love alien i also suggest Pandorum , it have many flaws but have alot of strong points , first of all an excellent script .

I really liked this movie, great look and feel to it, last part seemed a little confusing if I remember but the visuals were great.
Somebody on this site did a poll on who should direct Prome 2 and I thought Danny Boyle was a good choice.

That and Silent Running. Asking the question, there has to be an end and many refuse to understand it and look for ways to change it.

SpartacusApril 18, 2012
It was a striking film "Sunshine" was...I agree. Thought Of mentioning it many times here and never did out of Fear of getting Bashed I think. LOL.

YEP i liked sunshine cillian murphy 's character was based on professor brian cox who is young but very capable and extremely knowledgeable on the subject of physics .
The part where mark strong was wondering around stalking the crew was a bit daft and spoilt what could have been a Great film and not just a good one but all in all its very enjoyable.
i'm certain he would of had skin cancer at that range for 7 years lol or a shed load of factor 5000 skin lotion at least.
ShaneApril 18, 2012
Love silent running.
I really didn't like Sunshine. It was pretty. Terrible dialog. What the fuck was up with that last act?
Much like 28 days later, strong out of the gate...half way through turns into shit on a stick.

@artyoh
That "one character/plot device" - let me guess: Pinbacker?
I loved that film until it descended into, "Madman on board - and he's chasing us!"
The visuals were outstanding.

3/4 of the move is awsome, along with the sountrack. The ending sucked! Any creature like beast would have been better than a roasted freako.

CypherApril 18, 2012
I'll be having a look at it, sounds like it's up my alley :-D

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

@allinamberclad
Yes. He had a really good sci-fi movie going, until the guy with a "28 Days Later" attitude, showed up.

Spot on. I needed the religious theme surrounding the Sun to kind of "get" the ending (which I thought was excellent) but didn't like the villian at all. I think it was more the way he was played.
Other than that I love this movie.

GolicApril 18, 2012
Tore itself to shreds in the third act. One of Danny Boyle's worst films. Also cringe when I hear critics compare it to Alien. No good.

OttoApril 18, 2012
Nahh, I'm not comparing the ENTIRE storyline to Alien, Golic...and I certainly didn't say it was anything near "perfection" like A.1 was, but for a RECENT scifi, it's pretty good in it's artistry and the "claustrophobic", "Das Boot", "Alien" feeling is there from the beginning. I certainly wish it had ended better as well...but it's still worth a watch for those who haven't seen it, IMHO...
The DoctorApril 18, 2012
The movie was ok, the science was terrible, a bomb the size of manhattan could never reignite the sun.

Ripley Clone 8April 18, 2012
Sunshine is badass. I have it on blu-ray. Just watched the movie on blu-ray a couple weeks ago with a friend. The visuals and the sun were portrayed so realistically. Made you feel as though you were actually watching something plummeting into the sun.

I brought up Sunshine and recommended Boyle as a good potential Prometheus 2 director. Boyle cites "2001: A space Odyssey" and "Alien" as two of his influences. The last third of the movie is both an attempt to disorient the audience and to pay homage to the toilet scene in "Trainspotting". Pinbaker (the burnt 1rst captain), is a metaphor for both the Sun's relentlessness to "burn" humanity and the inevitable forces at work in the universe that ocassionally crop up tp foil our best laid plans....no matter how unbelievable they may seem to be at the time.

ShaneApril 18, 2012
I just felt the movie didn't need a true villain. There were a ton of ways to make that film better, introducing a villain that felt like a video game reject isn't one of them.
I just wish it was a quieter film. Quiet scifi is so rarely done now. I think part of the reason moon stands out is just because it is a quiet little scifi story. Now everything is loud, violent, and with an extra does of worthless dialog and explosions. People need to make little films again.
Rant over.
TokyokidApril 18, 2012
Yea, the ending was a such a stretch, it made the rest of the movie lack context. I understand some basic physics and science, and I still had to work to develop an understanding what the story was about.
Still, I've watched it a few times because it is good.

MarcoBot1234April 18, 2012
Yea good movie had some issues with the ending as well.
@shane as for a "quiet" sci-fi Steven Soderbergh's remake of Solaris was quite good, another underated film.
You guys got any other good sci-fi recomendations??? I could use some to fill the void till Prometheus is finally released!!
ShaneApril 19, 2012
Um, no, the remake of Solaris is complete shit I saw the original years before the remake came out and nearly cried when I heard some fucking american studio was gonna remake it into americanized garbage staring someone as interesting to me as watching my ceiling. Actually no, less interesting then that. My ceiling has provided me with way more pleasure then that film ever will.
The only George Clooney movie i enjoyed was "from dusk till dawn". it's a complete piece of crap, but I enjoyed it as a popcorn movie. The only other film I saw a part of by Steven Soderbergh was Eros for the Wong Kar Wai portion. I didn't bother with the rest of them.
I've said before, there are very few films I like. And remakes...even less. I think maybe 2 or 3 I found to me "ok". But I am super fucking picky.

Dave_bApril 19, 2012
Shane, on one hand you can make some fairly decent comments regarding the film industry, but on the other hand, you bring up some of the most worthless pieces of crap ever produced. What gives? Quiet SciFi...then Dusk till dawn? Maybe your bi-polar or just plain nuts?

jujutsukaApril 19, 2012
Like many have said, I enjoyed Sunshine, but Fried Chicken Guy was unnecessary. The film would have been much better if the crew had been consumed by the psychological implications of the enormity of their mission, not cut up by the Colonel (the mascot for Kentucky Fried Chicken for those who aren't familiar with the fast food chain).
@Dave_b,
With all due respect, someone's seemingly conflicting film preferences in no way indicates that they are "bi-polar or just plain nuts".
Fall down seven times, get up eight.

Dave_bApril 20, 2012
It was meant as a jest jones, to emphasize his seemingly "dyslexic taste" in film. Of course, I have my moments as well:O)
