MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 11:42 PMI've talked to plenty of people about this film. And everyone is saying "if this is pg-13, we'll pass" to sum it up shortly. Even myself will have to pass on the big screen. I hate pg-13 films. They all have a lot of hype. But after wasting your time and money on them. You feel like ya just got jerked off just so the big studios can make there money.
I love Ridley Scott's films. He usually stays true to story's and the realness of them. But if he changes anything for a pg-13 Alien film, I will be pissed and I am sure plenty others will as well.

That's uncalled for @the coming....come on, are you really going to be that juvenile?
And why do we keep opening threads on this topic? There are far too many of them to excuse not looking, sorry.....

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 9:30 PMOkay, despite Sir Ridley's supposed critism of the MPAA ratings system, I look on this whole issue from a certain angle...
DID HE NOT SORT OUT EXACTLY WHAT RATING 'FOX' WOULD ALLOW HIM RIGHT FROM THE START, IF THEY GAVE HIM THE BUDGET HE REQUIRED FOR THIS???!
I mean, come on...would he really have undertaken this movie without clarifying if he could actually film an 'R' cut for it's eventual 'Theatrical' release or not? I DOUBT IT VERY MUCH PERSONALLY!
I reckon he was told by 'FOX' that he'd HAVE to give them a PG-13 cut right from the get go...but he decided to undertake the movie anyway...even though he knew he'd end up with a compromised, 'watered-down' release to keep his financial backers happy!
So despite his mock protestations that it's out of his hands now, I reckon he's definately known right from the very start that this would be the case. And if he DIDN'T clarify this issue before he started, then he's been very naive considering 'FOX's past record on this kind of thing...
But I think he's always known this was going to be the case, unfortunately. Still, as it seems he's specifically gone ahead and filmed some alternative/or additional 'R' rated moments, we'll at least see a closer version of what he'd have probably preferred to show us...albeit on the blu-ray release eventually.
Pity, as I'd have rathered we'd all gotten to see his 'true' version on the big screen to begin with...

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 8:30 PMWhy does it have to be either PG-13 or R.
Why can't it be somewhere in the middle?
M or MA15+.
Or are these designations only Australian?

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 11:54 PMi cant help but say it would disappoint me to have a PG-13 rating
However this isnt just overhyped bullshit i.e. Battleship, Hunger Games and so forth.
Ridley Scott is a master and from everything ive seen so far from the pics, trailers, viral videos, websites and all these discussions on this forum im damn excited to see this movie!
I dont think RS would compromise his creation for a PG-13 rating.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 12:09 AMWhy I am thinking about it..
Why don't we, the public boycott this shit? Why can't we sue the shit out of studios that constantly rip us off?
This is what will happen. It happens all the time and it should be against the law.
Prometheus comes out on the big screen as PG-13. $7-12 bucks for the ticket. another $7-$30 for snacks.. Your all excited, sit down. start munching your pop corn. Film starts after 20 mins of shitty movie trailers (which should be moved to the back of the film, cause the shits annoying, my ass is already numb from watching them). Movie ends and you think "this film kind of blew, it had its moments.. should of been better. But I feel like I just got jerked off without a great ending.. "
So then the studios release an ad "dont worry kids, we have a rated R coming out on blue ray, dvd, vhs and what ever else for the fair price of $20-$30 dollars." So you get excited to finally see what you should of been able to see in the first place on the big screen. So you wait another 3-6 months for the release.. Pop it in the dvd player.. watch it.. Still you feel jerked off.. Like something is missing. You enjoyed it more.. but.. not as much.. It dont feel like a Ridley Scott film and stuff seems missing.
So a month goes by and you get news Prometheus Unrated Directors Cut is coming out. So now your like "fuckin finally!!!" you wait a month for it to come out. Pick it up at your local store for another $20-30 bucks. You pop it in, watch it. This time you go "Now this is how it should of been done!!".. But wait......... Another month goes by, With the success of the unrated directors cut. The studio decides to release another version of the unrated directors cut, But with added footage and bonus behind the scenes footage..
So now your thinking.. "Mother fucker, I have to spend another $20 - 30 bucks after I already spent $100 and 6 hours of my life.. fuck it, its worth it!" So ya go buy another version.. This one your happy with. This is the product Ridley intended to release..
Yet, after all this.. You still feel like you were jerked off. You keep wondering "Why didn't they just release this version first? was the money really that important?" So in annoyance. You think. "It will be easier if I just download the shit, fuck them money hungry bastards!"
The end...
That's how I view it anyways. I want a great sci fi film that holds true to the vision of the story, The first time it is released. Dont make us constantly pay for it, then bitch when we download the movies you offer. I'll be honest. I am downloading this shit if it comes out PG-13 and wont waste my time nor money going to see it on the big screen. A dark gritty Sci Fi film should be RATED R.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 12:14 AMDont buy into the hype. It does look great.. But as I am trying to say, After you see it. You will feel ripped off, pissed off and think something is missing. Then when the rated R version comes out.. The one that should be on the big screen in the first place. You'll love it.. But still feel it lacking.. Then the REAL version of the film comes out, The one that Ridley intended to put out in the first place. That's when you should be excited. But for now. We are getting jerked off by the studios and Ridley.
I wish I could meet Ridley, just to pull out my dick and tell him, If he is going to jerk me off.. Might as well really do it hahah.. ewwww.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 12:24 AMhahaha 'blows load'
Quite an epic rant you got going there! I truly understand where your coming from.
When Alien came out is scared ppl shitless, ppl literally had to leave their seats because they couldnt take the horror. In this day and age weve just about seen everything possible and our scare factor has gone up.
So why are they lowering the standards by issuing a PG-13 rating? How will we get traumatized by a movie that lil kids are allowed to watch? ANNOYED
This isnt hunger games teenie bopper shit this is a sci-fi epic that shouldnt be tampered with!
I download movies. But if a movie is truly worthy I will go out and pay for it. Last few movies Ive bought were Drive, Outrage, Immortals, Girl With the Dragon Tatoo. Ill support quality. Ridley Scott is one of my top directors and despite the fact im skeptical over the rating i havent lost all faith.
Neither should you!

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 12:35 AMI share the sentiment. What I've been longing for, and is lacking in cinema nowadays, is an Epic Horror Film. By this I mean... a big budget movie with a great story & an R-rated level of violence. You know, like Alien & Aliens. I'm tired of what the MPAA calls "sci-fi violence" or "creature violence" or any other euphemism for PG-13 violence ("sci-fi violence", hah, I wondering what pioneering science fiction writers would make of that).
An Epic Horror film is what Guillermo Del Toro wanted to do with At The Mountains of Madness, he said he wanted to make an intense action/horror in the Aliens vein that HAD to be R-rated to achieve the intensity he wanted. It got canned because Universal would only let him do a PG-13 film on the budget he needed. (And later that year they released The Thing remake R-rated with a cheaper budget that didn't require name actors or, evidently, an original story. But I digress.) I think GDT was right to turn this down. A lot of people say "ratings don't matter to me" or "Why does it matter, just because it's gorier won't make it better." That's not the point! The gore in and of itself is not the point. The point is that an R-rating allows for a level of dread & overall INTENSITY, and there's something special about having a long movie with a good story & good actors that shows blood when damage is inflicted upon the human body!
So, I really hope Prometheus is going to be allowed "graphic violence" and not more of that sanitized "sci-fi violence", because it just doesn't look right to me when people are impaled but don't bleed (I'm looking at you, AvP). I hope Fox is more lenient than Universal.
(And if there is blood, I hope it's not that fake-looking CGI blood, haha)

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 12:48 AMI haven't lost faith and I just want it to be to ridley's vision/version without constantly taking from us, until the real version comes out. I saw the first Alien when I was like 6.. It is why I am a fan of his and sci fi as well as making my own monsters.
I know being an adult now, The film isn't going to scare us like it did when we were kids. But kids today should get the real film and get scared shitless like we did and get it with a hard R rating.
There is talks already of releasing a pg13 and a R dvd. WTF? really? I cant believe grown men are going to cater to kids, just to make more money.. They should stay true to the art form and stop this advertising, force feeding, gimmie all your money, lie mentality. I haven't seen a great movie in a long time cause of this thinking from the studios. I just want this movie.. Just this one to be rated r. I can sit in the theater, around adults and live like the kids did in the 80's.. I'd like to experience that or as close to it as possible, just this one time.
But, if this is pg-13.. the theater will be packed with 90% 10-14 year old's, being annoying. Then some shitberg will think it is a good idea to bring a baby to the theater.. and the way I feel about this film.. If someone brings a baby to the show, and it starts crying.. I am going to get out of my seat, grab the little bastard and boot the sob like a soccer ball in front of everyone in attendance hahaha

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 1:06 AMGG Pan: you get it!! I am happy you see this same shit I do and go WTF?!?! Hellboy would of been better if it had some blood in the damn movie.
An R rating for sci fi films is like an adventure, The boundaries are limitless. I dont want to see T n A. That shit annoys me and takes away from the story I think. But say for instance the robot guy dies in this film.. They going to have nothing come out of him? No blood or fluids.. Might as well have him shit skittles and pass them out to kids while there at it.
I hope more people jump on the band wagon, we need to try and get them to give us the film that is intended to be released. The first time around.. not after we spend 100+ dollars on all the other shitty versions before the good version.. Cause even by then, it wont be the same. The first time is the best time.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 1:29 AMYes, Blood makes everything better. GORE FOR EVERYONE!
Yes, the first time is the best time. I fell asleep the first time I watched 2001. Man, that sure was the best viewing I ever had of that movie. And man, that viewing of Blade Runner when I was 7 and had no idea about the subplots and found it boring, that sure was great! What a stupid statement.
Jesus Fucking Christ. I am starting to hope he never releases a "R" version just to piss the blood and gore hounds off.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 1:48 AMI don't know why everyone should be mad at Ridley for the movie being PG=13. He is publicly pissed at the ratings system (google it) and has to go by the word of who actually paid for the movie to be made. I'm sure he did his best to make the most out of it for the rating. I agree with Pilcrow that the companies should be boycotted, but that means not going to the movies at all. If you just download it there would be more reason for Congress to pass stupid piracy laws. But if you just don't go to see the crap they put out and pass the word maybe they'll get the message. Or else just have a friend download it and have a viewing party so it doesn't even get downloaded as much.

Shane
MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 1:49 AMAlso, the re-release of Alien in Canada? AA. Which in the states is would be equal to PG-14.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 2:18 AMRS and crew also reviewed three movies beginning with the word "Star" as a lesson on how not to make a sci-fi movie. Lucas has been accused of pandering to children, to which he happily admits.
Now RS is doing the same thing, selling to children. But, money talks and the kiddies are talking.
Still, I have a lot of respect for his work and do not doubt that this movie will still be awesome.
One other point, RS considered the original Alien to be the directors cut. The timing of the movie was so important, he cut some original scenes when he added the Dallas cocoon scene.
So, I am wondering whether RS is either filming the R-rated scenes to be added later or whether he is running with the current PG-13 and will not add anything for DVD.

MemberDeaconApr-19-2012 6:53 AMThe only thing a PG 13 would hold back are these.
Exsessive scenes off Violence.
Sexual Scenes and Nudity
Exessive Bad Language
Large amounts of Gore/Blood or Horrific Imagery.
Thus a Thriller element and shock value could be added still, just without exsessive Blood and Guts.
I think Aliens could have passed for PG13 if you toned down some scenes, the Blood the Chest Burst scenes and took out the Foul Language.
A UK 15 however would not be so limiting as to what can be shown.

Good point, in this day and age the special effects that scared people years ago are lame compared to what scares people today.
So the Alien movie could have been made PG13 by todays standards had it taken out or redone the Gory Chest Burster Scenes, taken out any real Foul Language and toned down any really blood and guts scenes.
The Thiller, Scare espects of the movie that made you jump could still have been put into and pulled off in a PG-13

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 9:19 AMI want it to be believable.. cutting scenes short, removing elements of pain is a lie to the viewer. I want to see it and I want an artist to stay true to there art. Not cater to kids nor studios. Now if Ridley made the film the way he wanted it to be and it ended up being pg-13 after it was complete to his vision and story telling. Then great, I accept that. But with him already bitching about the MPAA rating system, Saying he wants to make as much money as possible and that a R rated version would be released to dvd.. Fuck him and the studios and this garbage they continue to feed us for a profit. The world isn't a safe beautiful place.. This isn't avatar..
Now if they cut out nude scenes/sexual elements and that's it. I am cool with that.. but if they replace "fuck" with "apple sauce".. come on now.. If a bear is chasing you.. you going to stop, hold up a pg-13 sign and say "please dont eat me cute cuddly teddy bear, your so silly" like everything is sweet around you.. No, your going to shit yourself, scream in horror and yell out mother fucker, fuck, shit, cry, shit yourself again, get an arm and your face ripped off and blood will be everywhere and you'll die the most grotesque painful death. Now if they made that into a film. I want to see it to its true form. You show the sweet version to kids.. they think it will be safe to go into the woods and pet a teddy bear.
