Best idea for how alien embryos got into Ripley in Alien3

I'm an old timer with this franchise. Saw the original Alien release BEFORE the Dallas cocooning scene had been deleted. Saw Aliens on the largest theatre screen in the Southeast in Atlanta. I thought they were both terrific films, creative, cutting edge and well executed ideas. I have perhaps NEVER been as disappointed as I was after the first time I viewed Alien3. I was aware of the script difficulties, etc. but I held out great hope for the film. But I felt betrayed, as the director violated the rules of the universe set up in the prior films by having an embryo implanted in Ripley. I've been on multiple forums over the years hoping to find someone who just might have a workable idea for how this came about and there's never been one, and probably never will. I thought I'd raise the question again since there's a new generation claiming the excellence of the film series. I'm open to any creative ideas as long as they don't defy logic (which the film, in my opinion, did in a big way.) Meanwhile, I am so psyched for Prometheus and I am hoping to see something brand new that will push the concept in new directions.

I sir am a broken record when it comes to ALIEN and the sequels. I don't like the queen(Sorry señor Cameron). ALIENS is a good action movie but it removed the mystique of ALIEN. "What do you expect us to use harsh language" is a line a love from ALIENS. So after the big battle with her majesty. a commando team of xenos place eggs by the cryo chambers. Facehuggers gave Ripley and Newt a good night kiss. Then instead of leaving well enough alone, the xenos/facehuggers got carried with their celebration and started a fire to sabotage a secure delivery of the xeno cargo. This "stasis interrupted, fire..." sequence was a bit shoddy for my own taste. Too many things from ALIENS didn't make sense, and it made lesser sense to me in ALIEN3. ALIEN Resurrection..."look a the beautiful baby"... :| The skill that people like Ridley Scott has is a dieing breed, and it's sad that the studios encourage such shoddy work to be the standard fare. Alas this dinosaur feels the brittleness of his weary bones.

That entire opening sequence of Alien3 is a mess. But then again, so was the entire production, so it's no surprise.

I am something of a purist so I too have been disappointed by everything after ALIEN. But I have to remind myself that the people who own the franchise are investors who are really only interested in making money. That often means betraying and whoring out original ideas in favor of money-making ones. So I simply say, 'such is life, I still have ALIEN and they can't take that away from me, and maybe one day something called PROMETHEUS will come along.'

Agree with all of you. To me, Alien is the ONLY "Alien"...not fond of Aliens---that screaming girl just wipes me out and i have to turn it off every time. That said, there is NOTHING wrong with making a GREAT movie that makes money AND tells a great story---something we are GOING to get with Prometheus. Not maybe, not sort of, not "only if"---we are GOING to get a blockbuster, fantastic, wonderful story which will ALSO give the studio mucho moola...

I do not understand why there is any question of this at all, an Egg or just Face Hugger complete with queen's wiggly wiggly was in The Sulaco and impregnated Ripley while she was in stasis and en route to Fiorina-161. This is undeniable and presented clearly in both versions of the film.

and I think once again as I have to say this alien 3's reconstructed directors cut IMO is a thing of pure beauty and an incredible Masterpiece Of Horror.

and they were NOT EMPRYOS, it was a Queen capable of producing embryos. They took the queen out in Resurrection after reconstruction her from DNA found at the spot of her death and in her exact state from the end of that film. I see why you have been confused, you have had it wrong from day 1...it was a Queen Not Embryos ! The embryos were IN THE QUEEN.

By talking about Alien 3, I got a theory to the "Chestburster" seen in the Trailer of Prometheus. At the End of Alien 3, the alien comes out of Ripleys abdomen right ? And the Chestburster is bigger, because it's a Queen. In the short scene in the Trailer, the Alien comes out of Shaw's abdomen too and it's a big one, a Queen. Maybe that's the way how the Xeno's was created. That would explain where the eggs came from, in the derelict.

spartacus...no no. the queen is, at the time its in ripleys stomach, an embryo as well, so theres nothing wrong with that. and there are TONS of holes in the beginning of Alien 3, most of which have been dissected on these discussion boards; how'd the egg get there, why did the face hugger bleed on the cryo, where was the second egg, etc. also, why does it take sooooo long for the queen to pop out of ripley when the other alien got out so quickly. personally, there are many things that i liked about alien 3, but there were holes, theres no denying that.

There are even more questions about the beginning of Alien 3 that don't often get answered. Like: How did the facehugger get from the dropship hangar bay (where Ripley fought the queen, assuming the queen somehow left an egg on the Sulaco before getting blown out the airlock) all the way through the ship to where the cryotubes were? Are we supposed to believe that there were no hatches, ports or bulkheads (heck even doors) between the dropship's hangar bay and the crew's hypersleep chamber? For that matter, what was it doing outside its egg at all? Did it just decide to randomly hatch and hope it could find a host somewhere? Not a very smart move from an evolutionary point of view. Or did it actually sense Ripley, Newt, Hicks, etc. during/after the battle with the queen, but say to itself "Ok, I'm just gonna hang out in this here egg and keep a low profile till the fighting's over and then, when everybody's asleep somewhere else in the ship...THEN I'll sneak up on 'em. Yeah, yeah, that's it! They'll never expect that, mwahahahahahaha..." But, as I said, I don't blame Fincher, I blame the crazy quilt of writers/directors/suits that came and went before Fincher even got on board.

from what i remember from an old aliens magazine strip based on one of the many alien 3 scripts.ripley got impregnated by the chest burster which was originally in newt.when the eev crash landed on fury 161it was submerged in water seeing as newt had drowned the embryonic queen exited newt and entered ripley thorough her mouth.as i say guys it was based on an old comic strip based on of the many theories of alien 3.

all those "questions" are answered in the directors cut but unfortunately, and I understand why, we do not count that.

Where, though? I'm watching it at the moment. Right now I'm up to the point where the two prisoners are dragging the dead ox into the abattoir and talking about what they'd like to say/do to Ripley (and holy hell is that a dead cat hanging skinned from the ceiling???) . Then one of the prisoners jumps up on the cart they were using and says "Hey Frank, what's this?" and he lifts up what looks like a very large dead facehugger. I LOVE the whole beginning of this movie in the Director's Cut - the whole thing with Clemens finding Ripley on the beach (she looks like a lice-covered bird caught in an oil slick, lol), Andrews actually typing out the transmission to W.Y. on-screen while we cross-cut to the prisoners looking inside the EEV wreck at the bodies (and doesn't Hicks's corpse look GRODY in this version, yikes), the overhead shot of them hooking the oxen up to the EEV. SO much more interesting than in the theatrical cut. The opening sequence - up to the point where the EEV hits the water - is the same, though. Interestingly, I just realized that the quick shot of the live facehugger hiding in the EEV (as it's being swung on the crane, in the theatrical cut) isn't in this version.

It seems that the only explanation is their had to have been another alien beside the queen that got on the Sulaco for who else secreted that egg near the cryo chamber of the 3 survivors and if there was one egg, why not two? We know Newt never got hugged (the autopsy revealed as much plus no bursted chest) so we've got two eggs. One gets on Ripley laying a queen and the other is scuttling about looking for a dog to jump on.

In all, its all very shoddy and requires a suspension of belief on the part of the viewer.

Yes, I just got to the point where Ripley is talking to Aaron (85) about contacting Weyland-Yutani about the alien they've captured; still nothing in this cut to clarify any of the inconsistencies from the opening, really. Although, watching this again, I must say - Aaron doesn't come across nearly as comical/idiotic as he does in the theatrical cut. In this version he really is more of a regular guy.

Holy smokes - Lance Henriksen does yell "I'm not a droid!" in this version! It's right after he stands up clutching his bleeding ear. I wish I could understand what Ripley says right before she closes her eyes and falls backwards into the fire, but I can't make it out. Still, all in all a much more effective version than the theatrical cut. Despite its flaws, it adds much more layering to the characters and makes the whole story much more interesting. And yes, the Alien's attack scenes were definitely more exciting in this version, as well.

can you turn on closed captioning john? my bf likes to do that for movies that have a lot of mumbling and hard to make out lines.
