What does that accomplish? I don't want to have to avoid everyone online just to keep the spoilers completely at bay, or hear some hard to please with their own ideas of what this movie was "supposed" to be make all kinds of "it's terrible" posts, or read the critics going crazy. Why can't we all just get introduced to this thing together???

i may be wrong but id imagine its to try and reduce leaked copies getting onto the internet? i'll try and see it at least once on opening day but won't be commenting anything at all on these boards about it, i think thats wrong.

Its usually the US that gets Movies Released first and some can be as much as over 3-4 months prior to UK release. In which case leaked stuff can always spoil the fun for none US viewers as when you got a large gap then most will know roughly what a movie is all about. Having the showings this close together is a good idea, the US only have to wait one week, thats nothing really. And they have to remember its not often that they get to come after the UK etc when it comes down to a movies release.

Well it could very well be that the usual formula for North America release FIRST followed by UK & Europe a couple months later was already in place. Prometheus was originally to have already been released here last month!!, but it was revised instead to the first week of June.

I guess my question is WHY NOT release them altogether in the major markets? I mean, there has to be some sort of reasoning behind it, right? To me, it just doesn't make sense...

It could simply be that UK date was already set, and instead of rearranging everything world wide, they simply opted to move just the North American date back. I have a feeling that pushing back the NA date was to get it away from OTHER major blockbuster type releases in order to reduce its national competition just prior to and after its release. You realize that if they had left the original PROMETHEUS release date as is, they would have been going up against THE HUNGER GAMES to name just one. HUNGER GAMES has been number 1 for what?.... like 5 weeks now??

Because its a change from the UK getting everything after the US? Im from the UK so luckily I get to watch it a week before people in the US, but Im still gonna stay away from the internet(going to be hard to do) a week before its released..or as soon as I hear the film has been leaked early to piratebay. I dont want to hear any major spoilers or peoples opinions on it either and I suggest you do the same.

Doesn't some soccer/football thing start on the 7th in the EU and that was part of the marketing conclusion to release it a week early? Someone on avpgalaxy mention that when that shit happens theatre kinda die for a bit. It makes sense to me. EURO 2012 starts on the 7th. That is why it is coming out a week early.

I will tell you exactly why IMO this was done. Pinewood Studios is a major British film studio situated in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of central London. A Great Portion of this film was created and filmed at their London studio as well a few of the others. It is only natural that since it is primarily a British collaborative creation that it premier in the U.K. first and foremost.

I understand that most hollywood movies are released later outside Because of subtitles and dubbings. but the uk and us version should be identical. Imo, a global simultaneous release Would be the best.

Revenge is a dish best served with WAY LESS of a chance of a sequel because Russia is getting it a week early. I expect a fairly good quality version to hit the net within 3 days of it's release and impact NA ticket sales quite a bit. Personally, I think it was a terrible idea. Fox is shooting itself in the foot over fear of soccer. Which I can only understand so much as I am Canadian and only like sports that feature people hitting each other in a ring/cage.

Thing is though it's made in the uk with american studio's money because British film councils and government grants have been cut so much the only films that get made here primarily uk films are from lottery money handouts . But that's been the case since starwars. A lot of hollywood productions are made here. Cant get why russia has it first that's weird.

I wonder if the production costs are shared with Free Scott productions on this, that would give it an equal footing so to speak and give ridley a bit more clout with what he wants to do.

What could be interesting is the movies Ratting at the UK launch. As anyone considered that maybe the US and UK versions may be different? I hope not.... But if the UK is a 15 then there is a lot of movies that are 15 in UK that the USA have to make to a R. But likewise if its PG-13 in the USA and in UK its 12A then maybe a little has to be cut to make it a 12A A 12A is more closer to a PG-13 than a 15 is to a PG-13. Thats why i think the UK system is the best. U= Any one can watch. PG Children must be accompanied by Adult. 12A For ages 12 and over or under if accompanied by Adult. 15 For ages 15 and over. 18 For ages over 18. Now a US PG-13 stands between a 12A and 15. But it usually means that a number of movies can be see by 15-17 year olds that in the USA you have to be over 18. Then again in the UK you can gamble and drink at 18 and not 21 ;)
