That's true, water continues to evaporate into the air regardless of temperature. Depending on the temp, humidity, air pressure, etc of the ships interior, It would take maybe a month to evaporate on it's own. The action of the bird will speed up the process as it helps dissipate the water. Maybe Ash would get up periodically to refill the cups.

So only Ash could have stuffed Jones the cat into that locker then? OR perhaps Jones found out what Ash was up to........or perhaps Jones kept drinking the said water so...Ash stuffed Jones into the locker. And why did no one wonder where the cat was untill he jumped out of the locker.....did they even know they had a cat on board? Or was someone smuggling the said cat back to earth cos they found out what happened to Dave Lister on Red Dwarf then stuff Jones into the locker. Plus......who fed jones for 10 months? And if they didnt why was Jones so healthy? And if it was Ash waking up periodically to do the housework and feed the cat, why then.............would he stuff the cat into the locker?

well sea ships are usually full of rats and or mice, maybe the nostromo had some meeces in it jones was snackin on. maybe he had his own little kitty sleeping pod. or maybe the locker was full of meow mix, they shove him in there when they go to sleep. hehehe maybe jones is a synthetic and hes smart enough to make his own dinner and fill glasses of water and set up drinky birds.
